The Heart of Liberty

So, i've heard about the helicopter method, where you get a helicopter and bail out over the highest platform, but 9.5/10 times i try this either:

*My helicopter moves just as I bail, making me hit the side of the statue, and when landing on the platform getting an instantaneous death

OR

*I position the heli right, but when Niko jumps out, he hits the side of the platform and bounces off, landing on the platform with the "Happiness is..Land" sweater on it.

Also, which is the best heli for this job. I normally use the Helitours Maverick as it is the easiest to obtain at this stage of the game (as i prefer to not use cheats), and you don't get a wanted level. However, is the Annihilator better/easier to control?

Thanks

I always use the Maverick as it's easier to control, and much smaller than the Annihilator. Making sure you're dead level is key; if you leap out at any point in motion, your helicopter is likely to career off, hit things and throw you right off course. Alternatively, you could use the motion of the helicopter to throw you onto the right platform. Takes practice, really.

/\/\ Thanks, I think its just because I tryed it recently before I had unlocked Algonquin, which makes it a lot harder with 2 Annihilators around you. I will practise with the Maverick, as it will be easier now I can legally acess the island.

Side-note: Is there any difference between the Maverick and the Higgins Maverick, apart from the colours of course?

Blackadder.

Sometimes I find it best if I'm trying to land on a building to clip my wings against a/the building until it starts beeping, then swinging the helicopter into where I'm trying to land and jumping out at the same time. This pretty much kills the rotors as soon as they come in contact with anything and saves you from getting killed and flung off the side of the building. tounge.gif

In my opinion, I watched a YouTube video on how to get in the Statue of Liberty (Statue of Happiness). However, I try and go in, and whatcha know?? All doors around it are LOCKED and you can't enter. The guy who made the video just walks threw one of the doors with it OPEN. I mean, how the f*ck is that possible without a mod? And I don't believe there is a mod...

There is one door that you can walk through. It has a sign next to it saying "No easter eggs inside" or something like that, can't remember.

If you find this hard then what about the coffee cup?

Now that's what I call a true achievement.

You can only go inside if you're at the top like everyone else, lol.

Yeah, I got to the top of the coffee cup, that was really a hard mission for me. tounge.gif I also noticed I had 2 of those flying rat birds up there, not taking any notice of my health, I shot the whole statue (when I was up there) with a rocket with the RPG. tounge.gif Fell off the statue, hit me head on the statue base (at the bottom) and died. sad.gif

Yeah it's pretty hard reaching the coffee cup; but it really felt amazing when I finally did it smile.gif

About the beating heart... it's quite easy after you did it once.

For these easter eggs I usually roam around MP... I'm wondering why some never managed to land on it lol.

nah, easiest was is if you have BoGT, then just parachute down onto the statue. It is a lot easier. But, then again, I think it is safe to assume you don't have BoGT..... then my advice is worthless ph34r.gif

I've never done it but apparently you can. It takes for ever to get drunk enough to fall appear somewhere, so I parachute there.

Just make sure to get your chopper right up close and almost at a standstill as you bail out of it. It is incredibly easy to miss and end up dead though..I feel your pain on that.

I tried it to but I died every single time. I've done it only once. I think the Helitours Maverick is easier to control. I usually take a taxi there and jack one then fly to the statue. There isn't anything easier then the helicopter method that I know of. You just have to get in a perfect position. I found that when I was just about to jump out, the helicopter would turn a little the right so then I would fall onto the platform bit bellow and die. The only problem is that you can't get to close because of your rotor blades. It's very hard to do.

BTW - If you go inside the statue and up all the stairs there is a guard with a machine gun next to a door and there you can pick up this cool jumper thing which says "Happiness is land..." on it.

PS - I think it is unfair that GTA IV: Ballad of Gay Tony is only for the 360, because personally I am a fan of the PS3 and I have one. I think it would be good if they released an expansion pack thing on PlayStation Network with parachutes and jetpacks in.

PSS - Police Motorbikes would be cool...

If you really want to improve your helicopter skills, and have nerves of steel ... after learning how to maneuver the helicopter, try an extended flight at low level around the canyons of Liberty City -- for fun!

In order to do this, I often steal a helicopter and then fly along at low level in the city, bringing her to a halt and then rotating around her own axis before taking another street. Of course you will hit things, but if you are careful you will make the copter last a while. Not only does this allow you to improve your eye-hand coordination but it also enhances your vehicle control skills. Just remember that there are two cranes in the streets ... one of which is later reduced to wreckage (but that is another story, literally) and that most of the signs in Chinatown are out on booms meaning that the streets are not as wide as you might wish.

Landing is not as difficult as you might imagine - the secret is to slow right down as you approach the landing zone, whatever it may be and then begin to go backwards while descending (or reducing power) until the helicopter is still capable of flying but not about to stall and is very close to the ground. Try wherever possible to reduce as much momentum (motion, kinetic energy) and you will get a nice soft landing. It is okay, in a pinch, to hit hard and break glass, but don't do it too often or the copter may be unable to fly again.

Now, crashing a helicopter is what worries people. When they come down, copters do one of two things ... either the blades come off and you impact the ground, or slide out ... but unless you are thrown out or are really unlucky you can easily survive an impact ... or they lose their tails and spin for a bit before doing much of what was mentioned above. Landing on sand is really not advised, neither is attempting to land with objects - especially trees - nearby as the blades will clip them and that's the end of that. In extreme circumstances the machine will begin to issue a Master Alarm beep - which cannot be shut down - or if you do sufficient damage to it, refuse to fly altogether, in fact you will not even be able to open the door.

Be advised, when parking the helicopter in any street try to bring the tail assembly around so it is not obscuring traffic in any way, or you may return to it and find the tail ripped off. As a thought, when you get access to a rooftop apartment and the cops want to Rodney King you, simply land on the roof, thus saving time and your arse in the process - this alone is worth learning how to fly properly (and sometimes, when you leave the building the helicopter is now in your parking space!).

He post a comment on 13.1, and TBOGT is released 13.4.10., for the PS3 of course.
