Battlefield: Bad Company 2

some of those campers can actually help if they're skilled enough

Believe me, I know that! Problem is that 90% of them suck whether they're camping or not.

by realism I meant no dumb things like a teleporting perk (commando) or plastic guns, and vehicles. (but that's one of the main things about battlefield)

There you go again; dismissing something as dumb because it's not realistic. Newsflash! Neither game is realistic. If they were, you wouldn't respawn or regenerate health. I also find it ironic that you bash "teleporting" seeing as ammo in BC2 is either teleported or pulled out of your a**. You also teleport into vehicles and can teleport behind a squad-mate when spawning (which is also teleporting).

Plastic guns!? Are you blind man? BC2's guns are some of the dullest I've seen. MW2's guns are incredibly detailed:

user posted image

Why does a lack of vehicles make MW2 unrealistic? It's not a driving game, it's an FPS.

graphics do not make the game, I personally thought they looked better than MW2 though.

Fair enough, personal preference. I also didn't mean to imply that they make the game good or bad. To me textures just look much more detailed and interesting in MW2. Especially in the portions that take place in Brazil.

and the battlefield moment...yes that, but unless you're playing with actual friends with mics in a squad instead of dumb randomers, your argument is invalid to me.

My argument is invalid? You're the one that brought it up...

If you ask me, it's pretty bad that you only have those 'battlefield moments' when playing with friends. A game that supports so many players at once really should have a system of gameplay that lets those moments happen no matter who's playing.

also, mw2 fun and rewarding? what crack have you been smoking? I want some too.

remember when fourzerotwo said you'd get big things for going prestige? guess what, some lame ass emblems and titles, that was all.

I didn't mean literally being rewarded. By rewarding I meant that when I hold off an area or get a headshot from across the map I feel accomplished. The lack of awareness [in BC2] I mentioned earlier makes holding off a planted bomb easy as long as the walls are still intact. Sniping is easier than it should be as well but it's one of the few really fun things in the game so I'll leave that subject alone.

the only fun thing about mw2 are the glitches and the campaign.

Personal opinion. In my opinion the only fun thing about BC2 is sniping and...well...sniping.

explain me why mw2 is on its 7th patch already? yes, because it sucks. call of duty 4 ftw)

Because IW is actively trying to fix problems that players find? It doesn't work half the time but at least they're trying.

My biggest problems with the BC1 (hit detection, explosives damage, stiff controls) were in the demo and are in the full game to this day. Like I said before, MW2 has tons of exploitable glitches and BC2 has broken gameplay.

realistic games require more effort and actual teamplay.

Truer words were never spoken (ok, so they probably were). But seriously ,that's the problem! 90% of other players are just casual players and don't give a crap about teamwork. So no matter how much I try to be a team player, it doesn't make a bit of difference if my teams isn't doing the same. Hell, my entire team can be launching a surprise ambush but all it takes is one idiot running out into the open to focus the entire enemy team in our direction. The only time you're going to find good team play in either game is when you're playing with friends. When you're in a random online game you'll rarely find good team play. The difference is that MW2 has game modes that don't require much team play for this very reason. BC2 is nothing but teamplay-focused game modes.

- that is indeed a sad fact.

-by plastic guns I meant that they actually feel heavy in bad company 2 unlike in mw2 where you can run around with an RPG at 100km/h aslong as your primary weapon is light.

(nice .gif btw)

- obviously neither are driving games, but vehicles do add to the tension in several cases (for me it would've been enough if IW would've put humvees on afghan that don't drive but have working miniguns like in the campaign)

-graphics /

I have enough of those moments but I guess that is different each game.

I mean, I really like infiltrating the first defenders base, get in that house and let my squad mates spawn on me.

I usually destroy all the walls except for one because - you said it on the first point - most people don't know they can take down a building.

when we get killed the enemy usually goes in there so I switch to engineer, and plant a rocket in the last wall giving me an epic multikill.

-leaving it alone /

-yes, each to their own.

- and because mw2 = a bug ridden game.

No, the problem is that people don't want to put effort into gaming. Modern Warfare 2 is the result of a, one great developer, selling out... being lazy and creating a game that 'balances' everything for the 'masses' ('casual' gamers). We all know the brilliant outcome...

Funny thing is though: these so called casual gamers do not care about the whole hardcore scene and such and realism, yet they're crying about the fact people use M203's... while they themselves spray the living sh*t out of everyone with overpowered weapons (like ACR) and/or akimbo the sh*t out of their secondary weapon slot. HYPOCRITE MUCH?

Anyways: Bad Company looks promising and the beta had some errors that should be fixed at launch. And we can't compare Modern Warfare 2 to Battlefield actually seeing as one is a 'immersive total BATTLEFIELD' experience while the other is a pure sang arcade infantry shooter.

One thing about Modern Warfare 2 weapon models: they might 'look' good, they're far from accurate and far from DETAILED.

Really? To me it's BC2 that feels floaty and weightless. The guns look so small and weak and you run fast no matter what you're holding. Personal opinion I guess.

I agree they add to the tension in BC2 but MW2 is more about CQ combat.

I like your idea about parked humvees having miniguns. You'd be completely exposed but it would be a nice detail.

I usually just drive a tank to that little house, plant the bomb, and defend it with the tank. The enemies freak out and immediately run over to disarm the bomb completely oblivious of the huge tank aimed right at them. I'd actually prefer it to be a little harder...

- and because mw2 = a bug ridden game.

-True. But none of them are game-breaking bugs in my opinion. The javlin glitch was really annoying but the people using it had to die in order to use it so it wasn't so bad. Whenever I died by it I always relished in the fact that no matter how annoying it was, they were only lowering their KDR and would most likely end up in last place at the end of the round.

-The care package glitch (where you can run uber-fast while holding the care package marker) wasn't to annoying. It's really fun to kill them because they run right at you from 50 feet away to knife you when they could just use a gun. One time some idiot using the glitch was running right at me from the other end of a long hallway. I was looking right at him the whole time and blasted him with my shotgun just before he got into knifing range. Everybody was laughing at the end of the game and mocking him for his stupidity...even his own team!

-The dual-wielded 1887s with the insane range AFTER the patch wasn't bad at all. Hardly anybody used the glitch before it got patched and fixed again.

-I have yet to encounter the new care package glitch abut it's already got a patch on the way.

-I don't think bugs have to be game breaking at all, to me they're just something annoying.

Don't get me started there... United Offensive was a brilliant game with immense maps and vehicular gameplay (Jeeps and Tanks). On top of that, modders made even bigger maps with even more vehicles and equipment (Anti Tank Guns, more tanks, more vehicles).

Call of Duty 3 also knew some 'tanks' in the game online and World at War also had tanks. Though, limited...

EduardKoeleJuck

Maybe a little off-topic, but has anybody seen the fugly MW2 water? It looks much better in WaW.

And fullmetal, I totally agree with you about the inaccurate weapon models. I mean, that Beretta 93R is just a Beretta 92FS with a front grip...

I still haven't played BF: BC2, but I guess that'll come when it's released. Then I can finally break the little f*ckin' MW2 DVD in half...

EDIT: Those glitches ARE game-breaking. I played a lot less in the time MS was "approving" the patch, and the game just wasn't fun anymore.

I know! I got 24 kills after an airstrike and chopper gunner on wasteland and my heart was pumping so fast as I looked down the scope of my sniper rifle for my last hkill hoping that I would not die first! I got it, though. turn.gif My first and only nuke so far. I'd probably have a second by now but my 60gb PS3 got the YLOD with MW2 inside. (Replacement Slim on the way!)

...but MW2 multiplayer is focused on CQ combat regardless of past games.

I'm not going to argue anymore. No matter what facts we continue to throw at each other, it will always boil down to personal opinion. I love the unrealistic action-packed MW2 and you like the massive maps and higher level of realism in BC2. Let's just leave it at that.

Holy sh*t i love some of the stuff you can do in this game, i just got in the passanger seat of the Apache and waited for someone to get in and fly off, once they had i waited a bit and jumped out and parachuted down, as i parachuted down i threw down 2 C4 on top of a tank and as i landed i set it off then knifed some sniper in the back and continued on my way.

It was f*cking epic. I really wish i had a capture card though.

How do you open your chute? I always fall to my death...

Come to think of it, can you pull it when jumping off buildings and other high places?

Here's a interview with BC2 Producer Gordan Van Dyke revealing some more details of Squad Deathmatch. It's kind of old but had some tidbits of knowledge I had not known about.

You sure can, it's a bit ridiculous ome to think of it. I know the parachutes wouldn't work if you're bailing a heli at 50-100m either, but the fact that you an jump off the construction sites in the demo and use it is just "WTF". It's helpful and all, but when you see a guy jump 20m, deploy a chute with 5m to go and keep running, it's a bit weird. I can accept it with helis and the like as an element of there being no other way down, but you could just go down the stairs in a building.

It has always been that way as far as I remember. And yes it's rather odd, though damn handy. It shouldn't be a problem to code this that you ONLY can parachute down if you 'exit' certain type of vehicle (helicopters) or when you spawn in the air.

On top of that; I've noticed the lack of controllable airplanes and such eventhough they stated it being in the game. They probably just meant background fighter planes and/or bomber planes which aren't controllable.

And foohy: did I even state that Modern Warfare 2 supposedly needed vehicles? Way to quote me and take it all out of it's context. I quoted Oldage because he was talking about the Call of Duty franchise being close combat and small maps, which isn't true (hence my explanation which you quoted).

That was a pretty good video Toke, i actually didn't know pressing select made you shout out for ammo though so i'm gonna start using that more often, though i just wish people would actually throw out ammo kits, it's so annoying that they don't. Oh and i press select to spot people all the time and it never frekin works, it's annoying. mad.gif

Bollocks, I stepped into a f*cking game war.

All I will say is that this is a HUGE improvement on the first game. The ability to choose what weapons and items for each kit is a long over due feature. The fact you can FINALY always have a pistol is the best part of all. I cant wait to unlock the G3 and have my 1911, C4 and Ammo packs as assault and be an unlimited ammo sneaky tank killer with range. Which is what all previous games seemed to lack, If you wanted power or a good gun you would suffer and not be able to have anti tank capabilities, if you took those, then you would end up with some useless primary weapon. This more than makes up for all the mistakes before.

Controls are the 2nd best thing, Revised well, and nearly identicle to CoD, and finaly iron sights for all weapons, this is a very good thing, and they make the 9A-91 a f*cking killing machine.

Bad points are slightly slow and sluggish movement and animations, reloading and most of all the knife animation which takes forever, I will definately miss the old knife. Being able to swipe away and get everyone in a room. There also is an annoying thing when you are reloading and still holding the left trigger it will either take ages or not at all even re enter zoom. Very very annoying for sniper rifles or the RPG.

Though technically the same game as before, these minor improvements make it a sh*t ton more possible to be a great game.

I would never compare it to MW2, both completely different. But this is definitely more my style of game. If you want to take a break and chill and camp in a room, its encouraged, rather than becoming an annoyance for other players. It works much better as a team game rather than just mindless action like CoD. That is more like throwing a bunch of pissed off cats into a box. Where as this is more of a squirrel getting tromboned in a carpark by bat. It's just better. For now.

Btw, if that Garand is the same as it is in 1943, all f*cking hell is going to break loose.

They rush the development of their games to make deadlines resulting in underwhelming games that don't have an ounce of fine-tuning.

MW2 anyone?

Infinity Ward, now theirs a company that rushes it's games, well at least it's latest game. Thats why you can still find glitches in MW2

MW2 has tons of glitches! Especially in multiplayer. Look on any forum...people are pissed about it left and right. But at least they're glitches that you can work with.

you'll likely see none or very very very few [glitches] in BC2.

When my crosshairs are off by 30 feet [in BF:BC2] that's pretty game-breaking! Not to mention that explosives have a habit of not damaging enemies on foot. I shot someone with that mounted rocket launcher thing and it hit the ground right at the guy's feet without damaging him. So I did it again and it hit a wall that he war right next to...again, no damage! Then he turns around and kills me with his SCAR. I guess those aren't technically 'glitches'. So you're right. BF:BC2 has hardly any glitches! A glitch is really just a gameplay element that someone 'breaks' and uses for their own advancement. So, by definition, BF:BC2 can't have a glitch because it's gameplay is already broken from the get-go.

Glitches aside, the game is just ugly. Maybe it's just the level they have in the demo but it's all gray and uninteresting. The design of the level makes it really hectic and doesn't seem to have any natural choke points. The guns are really dull and lack detail. They feel like pea shooters. Movement is stiff making traversal of narrow areas tedious.

MW2 and BF:BC2 were both rushed. That's quite apparent. They were both developed in roughly two years, right? Yet MW2 is much more playable and has a much more balanced learning curve. The guns look and feel much more real and you feel like you're actually accomplishing something when you kill someone or destroy an objective. In BF:BC2 it just feels like I'm killing ants with pea shooters whereas in MW2 it feels like I'm killing someone who is actively trying to kill me from somewhere else in the world.

In BF:BC2 you don't get much of a sense of actually physically being there in the game which is something a good video game needs. In a video game you don't have peripheral vision which the game has to compensate for. MW2 compensates by doing a really good job of using enemy footsteps and damage indicators to let you know where your enemy is. I have a stereo TV and I can still tell which direction sounds are coming from 90% the time! In BF:BC2 I'm constantly left wondering what the heck happened when I die because the gunshot sounds like it came from everywhere at once. And It's not that I'm bad at the game (top 3 almost every time with around 25 kills and a few bomb plants) it's just that when I do get a kill, half the time it's luck [due to the terrible hit recognition] and doesn't feel like I really did anything.

To sum all that up:

-When I'm playing MW2 I feel like I'm actually there accomplishing something. I tense up when I meet up with an enemy face-to-face and I feel accomplished when I make a tough shot.

-When I'm playing BF:BC2 I feel like I'm staying at a boring, unimaginative location through my TV. No sense of immersion at all. I constantly find myself wondering how the developers could release a game that lacks so much polish. Then I remember...it's made by DICE.

So now having an opinion means I'm a fanboy? A fanboy is someone who just blindly hates something because it's a competitor to what he/she likes. I have valid reasons and arguments as to why I prefer MW2 over BC2. Maybe you're the fanboy. After all you did blindly insult me without even taking into consideration anything that I posted.

I don't really see "fanboy" as an insult...but's that's my opinion.

Well by calling me a fanboy he pretty much threw the credibility of my opinion out the window because he didn't like what I wrote. People are using the word 'fanboy' to refer to anyone why has a personal preference. It's ridiculous! Did I come in here saying "BC2 sucks!!1 MW2 kicks it's a**!!"? No. I explained all the gripes I have with a game that I was quite looking forward to.

The G3 is an assault rifle right? I thought you could only use the grenade launcher attachment on them. (Excuse me if I'm wrong.)

I have to agree. It's very hard sometimes to play for me (being a frequent cod player) because the characters feel to slow and sluggish. (Especially with the turning).

Yeah it is, but it isn't listed under the main assault rifles list on the Weapons screen, which means it doesn't come with an underslung grenade launcher. I'm kinda glad it doesn't as it's gonna be nice to be the Assault Class and have an ability to do some damage to enemy armour.

Honestly I find this game to be alot more fun than MW2, just all the chaos of Tanks shooting at you and Heli's flying around with gunners on them shooting all over the place and AA tanks is way more fun to play than camping in a corner in COD.

I love the demo. I really can't stop playing it. It's the most fun game I've played in a long. I'll definitely be buying this when it comes out. The animations are pretty smooth and I like the way the snipers shoot and feel. Overall this game is EXTREMELY fun to play for me. I love it.

Except that the demo's servers are down nervous.gif
