So yeah 1200 for a PC, 500 for a console. PC defo costs less

 

People do upgrade their PC alot. Hmm new OS recently released, thats some cash. And your parts aswell. Yeah if you get a good deal, it will last you for maybe 2 years but by that time, your PC is out of spec compared to new ones. So in order to keep up with the PC movement, you need to upgrade.

 

Where as a console, they may release newer ones with a bigger HD.

 

So thats max 2 years (yes i'v bumped it up..) where as a console 'should' last you till the next generation, in 10 years time. So thats upgrading your PC 5 times, compared to 1 console.

 

(I'v got nothing against PC'rs or 360 users. Someone obviously does have something against people not playing on a PC..)

 

At the end of the day, more and more stuff gets released for a PC to make them even better, costing more money. Something that not everyone can afford. I'm happy with my console, and I'm sure the original guy you were digging into feels the same.

So the PS3, at that time, was $300 CHEAPER, without the monitor. And a PC you will have to upgrade through time, a console you don't (unless you want a new HD, pads etc)

Damn talk about thread derailment ah well I guess there is f*ck all else to talk about at the moment with regards to TLaD since Rockstar still can't get off their fat f*cking arses and announce anything. I see several people keep bringing my PC setup into the discusssion. So lets dispel some blatant bull :-

 

Dec 2006 - After making do with a P4 and 6600gt for nearly 5 years I wanted to treat myself to a new PC. Since I have a modicum of intelligence I built a new PC (like I have always done). Off the top of my head the parts were :-

 

E6600 Core2Duo Processor = £150

Nvidia 8800GTS with 320mbs = £150

Gigabyte Motherboard = £70

2 x 1gbs DDR2 = £50

250gb HD = £60

 

Already had a spare case and PSU, so that is about £480 (or $960 if you are American) at the same time the PS3 was around £400 ($800). So for £80 more I got a PC that played games vastly better than the PS3. This PC played GTA 4 at 1680 x 1050 at 30-40fps with medium settings. The PS3 runs GTA 4 at low - Medium settings at 1140 x 640 with sub 30fps frame rates.

 

January 2007 - Quite content with my Core2Duo but feeling I NEEDED a second PC so I could have one upstairs and downstairs I decided to build a second PC. So I bought the following :-

 

Q6600 Quadcore Processor = £150

Nvidia 8600gt 512mbs = £50

Gigabyte Motherboard = £80

4 x 1gb DDR2 ram = £60

2 x 250gb HD = £140

Case = £50

PSU = £60

 

That came to around £600 I believe, I took the 8800gts out of my core2duo and shoved it in the quad and put the new 8600gt in the core2duo. So I then had 2 PC's capable of playing GTA 4. The core2duo could manage 30fps at 1280 x 720 on similar settings to the console (due to the downgraded graphics card) and the quad with 8800gts could play GTA 4 on medium to high settings at 1680 x 1050 at 40 -50fps.

 

February 2009 - Popped on Ebuyer saw a 260GTX going for £150 and thought "hmm lovely I will grab me one of them" bought it. Shoved the 260GTX in my quadcore and shoved the 8800gts back into my core2duo and gave me brother the 8600gt cos I felt sorry for him.

 

That is the extent of my "upgrading" PC's. I still game on my core2duo with 8800gts and nearly all games run with settings maxxed out. So lets ignore my quad and assume I never bought it.

 

I always see console gamers go "you have to upgrade every 6 months I don't" NO NO NO you do not have to upgrade but you can if you want. My core2duo is essentially the same as it was nearly 3 years ago. It has not received a single upgrade but it is STILL playing games better than the xbox/PS3.

 

The PC is always expensive in the short term but in the long term the PC saves you money. Oh TheBruceter if you bought a PC a year ago and it can't play GTA 4 better than the consoles now then sorry but you were f*cking ripped off.

 

As for me time marches on and my next upgrade will probably be in 2ish years time with a new processor/GPU/Ram it will cost me about £500 and it will be with the express aim of playing games at 2560 x 1600. When I make this upgrade the new xbox will probably be out with the new Playstation arriving a year later they will proudly brag about doing full 1080p. I will simply laugh and enjoy gaming at 2560 x 1600 and wait for the console users to realise YET AGAIN that the PC is ahead of the curve and they will start saying "yeah well graphics aren't important". Now please could the console trolls kindly f*ck off, you are kinda embarrassing yourselves

But for a student such as myself, i cannot come up with 600 quid every couple of years to get my PC better. I'm better off with a console, where there is little to no customisation. Every PS3 has the same spec, every 360 has the same spec (well roughly, except the newer ones.)

As I have already said the PC has an editor because the PC can do the editor without compromising the game. You want the video editor then buy a PC you cheap arses it is "exclusive to the PC" and this time there is NO f*cking timed exclusivity to it .

But if you look back, its started from a guy saying, i can't afford a PC, then mkey started.. i only backed up the other guy. I could really care less about specs, what console people play on bla bla. Its up to them which they wish to play on.

 

All i'v been saying is not everyone can afford to get every such new technological thing out there. People with a good job and not a student, aye prob. I know PC's are alot more powerful than consoles, thats fact. But the thing thats pulled me to a console is the fact i can sit on my couch, and play with the pad. The first machine I bough as a student, who would ever think that it's possible to save up some money instead of blowing it away? PC's are not for everyone and thanks god for that, this keeps the kiddie games on the PC on a bare minimum and that's is the way I like it. Here a new (nice) PC costs about one and half average monthly wages, so? Do I wine about it? Nope.

No, it can't be flipped. PC has the power, compatibility, functionality, "upgradeability" and it's dependable. What does xbox/ps3 have? Exclusive titles? This is something that can be flipped, as someone (like me, to name one) can not give a rats ass about most of those games. The only PS3 game I wanted to play was GTAIV and I did play it on my PC, a machine that costs something like a HD TV. I got to it a year later, but I palyed at full res, full etail and double FPS. So yeah, I'm definitively glad I waited.

Not to mention you can also build a PC that will out-game both of what the consoles (CURRENTLY*) offer for less than $400 (without monitor).

 

*currently because word in the underground grapevine express is that PS3 is about to be "tapped" like we have never seen before. While I am inclined not to believe it, I am assured by my friends that it doesn't mean my PC can't do it, it just means "the PC won't get it until the consoles get it since they are the mainstream product and PC versions are for Gaming Enthusiasts".

 

Which, if that is the fact, then that is still nothing for the console people to brag about. Take Lost and Damned for example since that is the topic; I defintiely did not mind waiting for IV, definitely was not getting a console just for one game, and definitely do not mind waiting for a vastly superior experience on higher resolution and texture settings. In the PC version, a lot more than just Johnny's jacket will be higher definition, and we get to make movies and mods without getting banned from XBox Live for life.

 

We get the first mip down from their source textures, consoles get 3rd and 4th mips, max.

 

That is only assuming their source textures are 2048 and higher - we might get full sized textures since they do seem pretty well 1:1 when you look at them as flat pictures in tools like Spark.

 

On console, you get what was watered down to run well, while on the PC, we get a reason to upgrade.

Well this will be on topic to the off topic topic. The thing about a PC is, it's not just for gaming. I can go from playing a game, to browsing the net, to doing work and so on. Your not just paying for it to do one thing. Hook it up in your living room to a large TV and now its a home theater PC also. So you get multiple options and the highest quality gaming experience. Well worth the money IMO. You don't have to start out big with a PC either. Make some smart choices and buy a motherboard that supports dual, quads, and upgrade when you want to. Its been said many times before, consoles = Instant gratification, PC = a little more effort and a lot more options. If you can't be botherd to install games, update drivers and maintain your PC, then the consoles are probably for you.

 

Back on topic, I've been checking the Rockstar Newswire and it's been a dissapointment. I'm taking a shot in the dark and going to say it will be out on December 2nd, just because thats when GTA IV PC was released. Nothing to back that up, just me.

See, having all of them allows me to work this angle with a lot of ease. I have the PS3 AND PC for Home Theater, all content is on my PC and I just stream it over to the PS3 to watch on the TV. Consoles and Computers can work together, as shocking as that may be to some of you here who pick one camp and then slate anyone who even mentions the alternative.
