Another Problem with Vice City on Vista

Recommended Posts

Heya, I've been lurking on this forum for a long while, but now I have a real reason to register to this forum. I recently dug up my old copy of GTA Vice City from my XP days to re-play. GTA Vice City will not properly start on my computer, the screen simply turns black for 1-2 seconds, and then goes back to the desktop. The process stays up for another few seconds, but the game never starts. I have tried a NO-CD crack to see if it was just my disk drive, nope. I have also used Google, along with the "Search" function, and tried all of the solutions, to no avail. I would know how to fix this, if only I knew what was causing it, so now I need some assistance. GTA San Andreas works perfectly on this computer. GTA III also does the same thing as GTA Vice City, but I only borrowed it temporarily to see if it would work, so it's not the game disks that are the problem. I have also e-mailed Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive about the issue, but they wrote back that I should try to use compatibility mode again. I also have all of the newest drivers for my system at this time.

Specs:

Game and Platform: PC

Version: 1.0

This game has never worked on this computer.

Toshiba Satellite L500 (New)

Pentium® Dual-Core CPU T4200 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz (x64, Not Overclocked or Anything)

2936MB Ram (3GB, No Idea About the Rest)

Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family (Integrated)

Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 (x86, Toshiba OEM)

DirectX 11 (With All Previous Versions Installed)

Realtek High Definition Audio

I am currently running as administrator.

I've installed ### billion times, and I've used all of the compatibility modes, and there is no [.set] file, because the game has never started yet.

Any help, assistance, or advice will be greatly appreciated, and I will also edit and update this post as necessary.

The problem may be your Video Card-Intel cards do not seem to work as well on Vista as they did on XP. First, try updating your Video Card drivers and see if that helps. Also, try "rolling back" to DX 10, VC, III, and SA work fine on DX 10, which has DX 9 support(required to play III, VC, and SA). Also, try running the game in 98 Compatibilty mode.

If these solutions don't help, you may need to get a new Video card that is not Integrated. Have you tried the Solutions available Here, and Here? If not try these and post back your results...

Unfortunately, all of the drivers on the Toshiba website for my model are for Vista x64, so I believe that leaves me in a bit of a rut. As for the DirectX suggestion, it simply made no difference. Compatibility modes are also a bust.

As for those two threads, I have slaved over them trying to find a combination of solutions that might work, but it was a quite fruitless endeavor.

I am currently considering dual-booting my current Vista installation with my old copy of XP Pro x86 to see if that will yield better results.

Thank you for taking your time to answer me radioman, but my problem still remains unsolved.

Did you check the radio station during installing??? My copy of GTAVC couldn't work if I uncheck the radio station during my installation, strange. mercie_blink.gif

That is very peculiar. I tried your suggestion, and it does not seem to make a difference.
