bobgtafan
Grand Theft Auto has redefined video gaming bringing one of the top selling fransices and showing gamers a highly realstic world to roam is possible while also showing us all that work still needs to be done in that department and they are on it. Saint's Row love it or hate it sold millions, it threw players into Detriot with hundreds of thousands of options and said, "Do whatever the f*ck you want" offering more options for customization than GTA but it was lacking in detail in the environment. Crackdown skipped detail and customization in favor to just blow sh*t up. It gained much respect. Fallout 3 offered 40 miles of America's capital to explore after nuclear fallout. Nuff said. Spiderman, Far Cry, Hulk, Borderlands, True Crime, the list goes on and on. That being said Open World Games are starting to become more and more games and this brings to question. Were will they be in 2 years, 5, 10, 30? What is your take? I see Getway 3, Eight Days, 2 Days to Vegas, I Am Alive ( I'm not sure if Open World), A new GTA and New Saint's Row in the near future. In 5 or 10 years I think most FPS will also be RPG and will all have open world elements. And new scenarios for open world games will arise. ( Natural Diaster, End of the World, Set in Totalitartan state etc.) In 30 years? bobgtafan
In 30 years? Grand Theft Auto: Earth I really doubt that. What's to dobut? 30 years ago. (1979) the only games out were http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1979_video_games. Today we have games like Call of Duty and GTA. In 10 years we went from GTA 1 to GTA 4. A major difference. So why is it hard to beleive that with computer power doubling every 2 years that GTA Earth won't be possible. O yea of litttle faith. uNi
Let's say they took 3 years just to model IV's map, multiple by each city in the world. How much is that? Unless R* hires a whole country to model it, yes I doubt it. Bigger maps? Yes, we'll have in 3 or 4 years from now. That scale, doubt it. OysterBarron
buildings on the earth have allready been height mapped by satilite also planes are taking pictures of buildings witch only require 2 sides of the building to be captured in order to texture the whole building. But yeah your right perhaps not GTA but maybe another company will do it. uNi
Sure, we can have hundreds of hundreds of miles of textured blocks and generated foliage and other stuff, or a smaller map and actual details. What I'm saying is that a map with that dimensions and the details like on IV isn't happing any time soon. Something gotta give. Or why can't we have a highly detailed recreation of the Earth in 30 YEARS? I said not anytime soon. Did I say it's possible today? Carnage1120
In 30 years? Grand Theft Auto: Earth I really doubt that. We would need google earth and a team of millions to complete this Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/432150-the-future-of-open-world-games/#findComment-1059624511 Share on other sites
CryptReaperDorian
The question is if video will even be popular anymore in 30 years. For all we know, people will be into sexbots or some weird sh*t like that. Video games in 30 years will probably transform into virtual reality. I know of current age many gamers wouldn't like the idea of virtual reality, but doing a war game like that would be epic in many ways (don't want pain simulated though ). anuj
GTA: Earth would be the most boring game ever. *New York* "We gotta take care of some of our... polar problems. *cue a 20 hour flight to the north pole to shoot penguins* Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/432150-the-future-of-open-world-games/#findComment-1059624576 Share on other sites

asimov
I find it hard to imagine what we will be playing in 30 years time, or even 10 years for that matter. I doubt we will see a game as big as GTA: Earth, I can see more focus on ingame physics, ridiculous resolutions and in the long term, some sort of holographic display. The size of game worlds won't get that much bigger. bobgtafan
I do think virtual reality will be the primary video source in 30 years but I don't see why people think A full recreation on Earth in 30 years is impossible or would be boring. I mean graphics would have probably passed the uncanny valley by then, and computer A.I would be almost as smart as humans. So it would be more entertaining than GTA's and Saint's Row's today.
