Typhus
The fact that England has so many ghosts could yield a few cool Easter eggs, don't you think? Especially if they included a parody of the Tower of London, with a decapitated woman walking around at night. There could be many creepy touches, much blood has been spilt in that place after all. mkey82
Sure, Europe may have the fast cars but where would you use them? It's mostly crooked alleyways and small streets. And every other car is a tiny subcompact like a SmartCar or a Ford Ka. What kind of damage could you do in a City Car? None. lol this so dumb it's work singling out. Crooked alleyways LOL Seriously people, stop posting sh*t about stuff you know nothing about. Luckily those who will chose the next GTA location are not dumbasses and therefore will make an educated decision. Probably. lol

Euh... If i understand it right, you consider a car not as a transport but as a way to damage other cars? What world are you living in exactly? OrR
You seem to forget that most of the best cars in GTA IV are european (Turismo, Schafter, Feltzer, Oracle, F620, Super Diamond, Comet, Infernus, Super GT, etc...), and it's the same in reality, everybody knows that european cars are the best. That's your opinion. Honestly, my favorite cars were the Cavalcade & Patriot, based on the Cadillac Escalade and Hummer H2, respectively. They were the best for destruction. Sure, Europe may have the fast cars but where would you use them? It's mostly crooked alleyways and small streets. And every other car is a tiny subcompact like a SmartCar or a Ford Ka. What kind of damage could you do in a City Car? None. You are asking the wrong question: What damage could you do to a city car? More explosions, more cars flying around... Seriously, most of the "arguments" in this thread are dumb bullsh*t. London is nothing like New York and it is a very unique city with all sorts of interesting fictional and factual crime. It is also a center (or centre) of the financial crisis so there is great potential for political humor as well as criminal opportunities in that direction. London will be a beautiful GTA setting. Algonquin Bridge
Hmm. If I remember, there was a pretty large topic outlining why a GTA set in London would be good and would work (it was made before the announcement of GTA: IV being set in Liberty City), but it did a very good job of presenting how it would work with geography, crime, etc. I'd like the next GTA to be set in the UK; and, as mentioned, it'd be nice if they a central city being a pastiche of London, with a town/smaller city to the north which is filled with Yorkshire/Lancashire/Newcastle/Scotland stereotypes; a town to the West being a pastiche of Liverpool, Blackpool and perhaps a bit of Wales. That town would have to end in "pool", though. A town to the west would be fairly boring; like Norwich. Perhaps you could do jobs for Alan Partridge? "Lynn's ill today, so I need you to go to the Travel Tavern and get Michael to make me breakfast!". South would be a port city, mixing Dover, Brighton and Folkestone. The Channel Tunnel would be closed due to worries of immigrants. EDIT: Can't believe that I put Wales, Liverpool and Blackpool as "East". Rectified it to West. Fair enough, but Liverpool/Blackpool and Wales are WEST (well, more north-west) while Norwich is EAST London would stand alone as great location for GTA, but if R* had the time and resources to expand it to a full-blown UK-wide location that would be awesome. As well as London you would definitely need a northern city, a blend of Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds. Also a celtic city, either scottish based on Glasgow /Edinburgh, or irish based on Dublin, but I can't decide which would be better. Then lots of smaller towns, maybe Dover, Brighton, Oxford (referenced as Bulford in GTA 4), Cardiff, Blackpool, lots of potential. Also the countryside would be different. No desert, but you could have the moors of the southwest or Yorkshire, they're pretty desolate and atmospheric. Also forests, mountains and lots of rolling farmland could make a fantastic alternative to the urban grime but still provide lots of gameplay opportunities. Anyone else who argues London isn't suitable should be directed there. I remember that post from before IV. Would be good to do a whole c+p job in a new topic here, maybe when I can be bothered I'll do it. Think Medallion Man hasn't been on since June so I doubt he will be doing it any time soon. agincourtsalute
Been a Londoner I'd love a GTA London but I'd rather wait until R* get more use to R.A.G.E. then we can have a GTA Britain. Something like SA three cities with countryside and small towns (like Blackpool ) around them. London, Manchester, and Edinburgh for example. gtamann123
they will never have another gta in London because the cops don't carry guns
DanManUtd
If anything that's a plus. Besides, if we need it we have SO19's who carry MP5's. And, it's not as if they're not allowed to carry guns, you get Authourised Arms Personnel (who carry pistols). Only comment when you actually know something on the matter. BrownBear
well strictly speaking no patrol officers dont carry guns but if there is a report of a shooting armed police will come zomming with mp5's and if there has been a gang shooting or a place were they take place regularly (ie:hackney, tower hamlets in london ,toxteth or norris green in liverpool, moss side in manchester or st pauls and easton in bristol) they will have officers patrolling with guns
TheBruceter
Armed forces can get called in though.. Just means you might not get shot at during the 1st or 2nd star.. Plus, its a game anyways.. lol Doesn't need to exactly immitate real life
Akavari
Umm cops not carrying guns would be BETTER. It would put a gap between where cops will arrest/beat you and when they will shoot to kill your ass. In GTAIV the cops ONLY carried guns and it was just a giant f*ckup of a system because you'd get killed for the most petty reasons
visionist
And just imagine all the British music! The Trance and the DnB and the UK Hip-Hop! Seriously the only argument for me against London is that it is simply TOO big and complex for this generation of consoles. Look how New York was shrunk down for IV.... Akavari
it's more about the characters/missions than the scope of the city. all they would have to do is include the obvious landmarks, and put some countryside on the outskirts of the city to provide some escape. england is beautiful i would be insulted if they didn't have any open roads/countryside in a London GTA
visionist
Haha earlier a poster commented on getting accosted by drug dealers on a crowded London street. Well it happened to me too! I was only looking for directions! haha
AnotherDave
On the police/guns topic, there are actually regular armed patrols in parts of London as well as armed officers stationed in places like parliament and royal residences. All police officers also carry tazers so that would be an alternative to firearms until armed units are called.
Ash_735
it talks about londons main attractions " Manchester airport " ...yeah that's not in London, haha, that's in MANCHESTER funnily enough. Manchester would be a decent place for a GTA game but only if it was set during the early to mid-90s.

Algonquin Bridge
Concerning guns; R* can take some artistic license. Perhaps in reaction to recent terrorist threats (and being a lackey to the USA), Parliament passes a Bill (well, now an Act) that allows all police officers to carry guns. Cue accusations of Orwellian totalitarianism.
cartoonlyon
basically a UK GTA could work, whoever is saying no guns for police etc wake up, armed police are on call in all major british cities. also for UK criminals being scum with no class your out your mind as well, Howard Marks? Kray Twins? Ronnie Biggs? The Massive familys in Manchester and Liverpool? As someone said earlier the main reason you hear about all of the little 'yout dem' shottas and scumbags etc is cos thats what the tabloid media has a hard on for thanks to the middle class being scared of the working class tied with the whole ASBO culture and the constant demonising of the youth. Theres still of family/gang related beef going on, the influx on eastern european gangs, the Vietnamese taking over the weed growing scene (@ 90% of which is now grown on UK soil and not imported anymore), the football firms, the oldboys, the new young blood. I could go on. Think about in MP DM in the millennium dome! blowing the crap out of the london eye! Punching burning blokes in scottish airports! (yeah k, not london but would be funny and not to far fetched with a scottish team behind it.) Not to mention two big airports (so you can have your planes back), a well busy river network, underground trains. Not that bad an idea if you think outside the box. ObsydianRaven
London would make an excellent setting for a GTA game. It may have the grittyness of LC but I'm sure as hell it would have a different feel to it.
