I made a poll to simplify the answers, but, I would love some actual input.

My old one was 1400 at the time, new one is 2000. Deal or no deal?

Deal! icon14.gificon14.gificon14.gif

It will constantly run GTA IV at the highest settings. Smoothly. Maybe around 60 FPS.

It looks like a decent PC, but I don't see why you would buy it pre-built. For top end spec like that you are better off building your own. I don't really like the look of that "800W" Power supply either, it might be a cheap brand, in which case it could take out the components if it blows. To be honest though, I don't see why you would want a new PC yet, your current one should be just fine for GTAIV, and if it isn't, upgrade your graphics card to an ATi Radeon 5850/5870.

Well, I'm retarded when it comes to anything involving the insides of a computer, and also, my old one is going to go to my dad. so yeah. Oh, and my current one has a rough time running GTA IV at any high settings, runs OK on medium.

oh god it's a cyber power? Good luck if anything goes wrong with it.

I've had a cyberpower pc for a year now and it hasn't have had any problems and I've been quite satisfied with it's performance.

Facedesk, it wasn't homemade/home brought.

For $2000 you could of gotten Core i7, 12Gb RAM and a HD5870 if you home built...

Are you made of money or just like spending it?

Why the hell are you trying to get a new PC?

The one you have now should be rocking your world. It sure as hell would be rocking mine if I had been able to afford to get that CPU and GFX card...the amount of RAM is meh great for video and HUGE photo editing/creating but mostly pointless for gaming.

In the world of PCs the most you're doing is taking a simple step up and I'm not talking about a full step, more like a quarter step up.

Yes the CPU is better because it means if you wanted to upgrade it you can simply pop in a new one without having to worry about replacing the mobo like you would for the current rig. The GFX card, other than the bigger RAM on board it and unless you plan to play something like Crysis on a big ass screen that is like 3200xwhatever then I doubt you'll see any improvement.

An 8core i7 and a that GTX 295 as a dual-GPU or 2 or 3 of them running SLI then maybe if you just have to be top dog and brag about it, then ok. Other wise save your money...or give me some so I can pay off a couple doctor bills.

Well, if the only reason you're getting a new one is because you're dad needs one, then go for it. But honestly what you have now is a great computer and I could only see a small increase in gameplay. If the Q9550 can't handle GTA IV with a GTX 260, the i7 960 and the GTX 295 isn't going to be amazingly better.

But to answer your question simply, yes. It should play ALL games very, very well. And GTA IV should run fine.

Imo, 12GB RAM is beyond over kill right now. 8GB is pretty much overkill. I don't see a need for more than 4-6GB, if that.

The PC you have currently is Rocking Your World. If your dad wants a PC just buy a Macintosh or Laptop for your dad, to use it for his work. Something like that.

Actually, I went on google and read a bunch of reviews of the GTX 295 and It saw great improvement in all the games it played, when I say great I mean 30-50 FPS more. Which is a lot in my opinion. And when I also went and looked up the CPU, it also made a HUGE difference when compared to my current one. So, in my logic, that means that they both should be a ton better than my current set up. I don't know why, but I only get like 30 FPS, maybe a bit more when I play games like Mass Effect, The witcher and WoW at max settings. Oh, and could I get two GTX 295 for when one GTX 295 won't cut it? I don't know much about the inside of computers, so yeah. I'm playing on a 1680 by 1050 screen, by the way.

And my dad doesn't really "want it" He just doesn't want a slow computer that's 4 years old, like my last one. I could in theory by him a cheap good computer, but this is a pretty good excuse to by a new and better one for myself.

For $2000 you can build a dual-CPU system with 16Gb RAM and 8 cores. confused.gif

For 2000$ you could get a better rig than in my sig.. That's not a good deal at all IMO. After some simple googleing and watching one or two youtube tutorials you could vrey well be able to build your own one. As for the GTX295, it would be a BIG mistake to buy it right now, since AMD has already released better single GPU cards and nVidia shouldn't bee too far from releasing the Fermi. Plus, if you play a game that doesn't support SLI well (such as GTA), the game would use just half of the GTX295 since it's in internal SLI. The performance would roughly equal a GTX260-275. If you buy another one (you realize it's like 500USD) you would probably be exposed to major Micro-Stuttering in many occasions and you woud need to buy a much better PSU for that. It would be ~2600$ spent on a system that you could've got with less thank 2k$ if yo built it yourself.

I agree with everyone in here. It would be ridiculous to upgrade from your current PC already, getting 30FPS in games should be enough, it's not like the human eye will be able to see the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS anyway. If you really must buy another PC for the sake of it, build it yourself, it's not difficult, and will mean you won't end up with another overpriced one with a cheap PSU. If your Dad wants a faster PC, then a Phenom II X2 550 or e5200 system with 4GB of DDR2, something like a Radeon 4670 or cheap NVidia card and reasonably sized hard drive should do him fine, I doubt he needs a Q9950 and GTX 260 for the things he will use it for.

Urban myth, you can see up to 200FPS iirc.

I thought it was like 100fps, but you can barely tell the difference after 30fps, I think >60fps is pretty much unnoticeable.

leik oh em jeez!

The brain can only process 3-4 images a second. The reason you want more than 4fps is so that the image being processed in the brain is actually a mixture of many images.

After 30 fps, it's really not noticable. 60fps is the same 600fps.

There is quite a big difference between 30 and 60 FPS. Unless you have a 120hz monitor, there will not be any changes at all when you go over 60FPS. Most monitors are 60hz, which means that the monitor cannot refresh screen more than 60 times in a second.

Then why can I tell a very noticeable difference between 30 and 60 FPS? Especially in games like TF2.

BT&T Hell Labs

after about 60 you can't tell.

But yeah, what the f*ck OP? Your computer you have NOW is very high end. Don't be spoilt, just get your dad an okay PC for much less and keep the one you have. It's much less hassle.

Right now you can't due to monitors only refreshing 60 times a second anyway, so unless you've had the luxury of gaming on a 120hz screen as I have, you can't really see what anyone means by it's smoother at 120FPS.

It's more that everything feels more fluid, controls feel more responsive, etc.

In terms of average FPS, yes. But if you have have a solid continuous 30FPS, the jump to 60 isn't very noticable.

Y'all jumped the tracks of this topic long ago.

So why not end it with this....

Some might be able to tell the difference between X-fps and Y-fps, where as others can't. Since that is the true fact of life.

Well, I think that new pc you are desiring to get is tremendous, but I also agree on that if you do a good search you could get all those components and someone to assemble your computer for less than U$S2000 (or you could get an amazingly good machine for those 2000 devil.gif )

The thing with the fps is the following.

The human brain can process around 22 "frames" per second (some people can process more and some people can process less), thats why movies are done in 24-25 fps and you can play games smoothly with just 30 fps (24 would do the trick nonetheless), movies and games work with those fps because people can't see a continuous stream of images *, we only see some parts of each frame the monitor or projector show. The probabilities make possible to miss a whole frame, and still being able to continue watching without being disturbed.

The thing with the 60 fps is that our brains process bits of more frames each second and then show us the action of a second using more sources and thus making a more fluent movement.

We can't see the real 60 frames in a second, that would be like viewing the world in slow motion.

And for 200 fps (filmed at 200fps, displayed at 30fps I think), you must be kidding.

Balloon

*We don't really see static frames, we see multiple bits of visual information (bits: this is a really abstract concept, its not as if your brain cuts an image with a mental sissors) belonging to different hundredths of a second and reorganised by our brains to form an apparently continuous view from the world around us. Also, our brains make up some of the information we miss, sometimes the brain "prefers" to create an image instead of processing the real images, thus saving some "resources" I suppose. For example: when you turn yor head really fast, it would be unefficient to process that information, that's why we see a blur.
