abbyratsolee
We first see the diamonds in the very beginning of the game with the cook, and their consequences can be seen throughout all three stories. But here's what irks me. -Warning some BoGT spoilers- The lowest price for the diamonds is approximately 2,000,000 dollars, as was shown in TBoGT. And with all those huge events, such as The Russians attacking massonette 9, the kidnapping of Gracie, the museum being shot up, the murder of Jim, ect. I estimate at least 200 people died as a result of these diamonds, not including the people you may or may not have run over in your quest for that little sack of shinies. Sure it was nice that some homeless guy got it in the end, but no one in the original fight got it. So was it worth it?
Warplay3r
It wasn't worth it. If the diamonds weren't thrown into this whole mess of Liberty City, an array of things wouldn't have happened. Spoilers ahead, oh boy. 1. Evan Moss wouldn't have been killed at the deal. It might have been good for him to been killed though, he was just pumping drugs into Tony, and it wasn't good. 2. Johnny Klebitz wouldn't have to handle the business to oversee the diamond deal for Ray Boccino, and thus wouldn't have stolen the money. This led to the hit out on Johnny, the murder of Jim, and the overall destruction of the Lost. Perhaps if it weren't for the cursed diamonds, Johnny would have taken over the Alderney Chapter, and things would have been good from there. 3. If the diamonds were non-exsistant, Patrick McReary might not have kidnapped Gracie Ancelloti. MIGHT, that is. The McReary family (Gerry in particular) and the Ancelottis were at each other's throats. I have a feeling the whole kidnapping was for spite, not just the diamonds. 4. Ray Bulgarin would not have claimed ownership of the diamonds in the first place. Luis Lopez would have been in the clear with Bulgarin, and not have had to deal with the hitmen, the destruction of Masionette 9, and the struggle to get to him on the last mission. It would have been less of a hassle for Luis, without the diamonds. It would be interesting to watch how things pan out without the diamonds. I'd like to know what would become of the story then... abbyratsolee
I'd like to know what would become of the story then... Well, the 3 stories would end like this. Niko would be happy and would be upper-middle-class, but instead he is probably the most depressed person in the world. Johnny would be happy and would have immense power, but instead he is probably the second most depressed person in the world. For Luis though, I think the trial of the diamonds helped them, just because if it weren't for that huge issue, I think that Tony would've just been a huge druggie, and the clubs would go down the crapper. It wasn't the diamonds that f*cked over Niko's life. They barely even harmed him. It was the heroin that Dimitri wished to purchase from Pegorino. If it weren't for that, then Roman or Kate wouldn't have been killed. 2. That is the absolute truth. 3. It was good to an extent. It gave Luis sh*t to deal with Bulgarin, and the shooting up of Masoinette 9. Evan Moss being killed was possibly the only good thing that came out of the whole diamonds thing. Tony would have been a deadbeat junkie if Evan Moss lived any longer.

Claude4Catalina
Like it has been said, its the heroin the ruined Niko's life, and if The Lost had not of raided the AOD clubhouse and got hold of it, which results in The Lost splitting into two because of Billy Grey's greed, The Lost probably would be doing Ray Boccino's bitch work, so with that said, alot of lives would have been saved had the heroin not existed, but the reason The Lost raid the AOD clubhouse was due to Niko's actions under the influence of Mikhail, so in a way Niko brought this onto himself without realising or even having the time to think about the consquences. But the diamonds seemed to be a turning point for Luis and Tony, with what happens to Evan.
