ATHLON FUSION DESKTOP UTILITY

I searched the forum for the above utility and found nothing, so presume it is not well known. I found out about it today, mentioned in a thread where one person mentioned it and then nobody else in the thread did!

This is one of those 'switch off all background processes - play game - switch on background processes utilities. Being an official utility from AMD, available at the official website - it's the smoothest, best version of this type of software I have ever used! It has lots of options from offline/online gaming to maximum battery saving (for laptops obviously) and maximum power.

I tried it on maximum to see the best it could do, but also see if it crashed my PC, like most utilities of this type do. I was pleasantly surprised to see that I was able to launch GTA IV at a normal speed. I thought it would e slow as the PC was 'busy' closing applications and processes, but it opened at a regular rate.

Now I have a lowly XP Pro SP3 256mb 8600 card with an AMD AthlonXP dual core 5600 2.8ghz CPU and 2gb RAM. In order to get decent framerate with as little lag, pop-in and smooth framerates as possible, I have had to play at 800x600 with Low Textures and all the other options set to Medium. Using the Athlon Fusion utility however, I have been able to bump that up to 1024x768 with Medium Textures and everything still else on Medium but now with high shadows!

Too me that's quite a jump, and the gameplay at this setting is as smooth as butter with no lag, pop-in or anything! I was very pleasantly surprised to say the least!

So if you have a lowly card but an AMD CPU, you should definitely give this utility a try, it may not be well known, but it's an excellent bit of kit!

I would imaging even if you have a better set-up, and are already playing on Medium textures, this may allow you to run the game on high!

The only downside I have found, is when using it at maximum, it takes a couple minutes to start up your firewall and anti-virus software, etc along with all the processes and services. Mind you, you can go into advance mode and choose what you what programs/processes you want to be switched off, for any particular option!

If you decide to download this free utility, please let me know how you got on with it, it may be a fluke that it works on my PC like a charm!

this is good if you don't know how to manage your processes. Theres a tweak for this to work with Intels, after all this just disables processes and has nothing to do with the cpu structure.

...Except by turning off processes it shows the power of your CPU - and how many people know what processes to turn off safely and who wants to go through that manually every time they wanted to play a game their PC struggles with? I never said there wasn't an Intel equivalent, I just think you're playing down how helpful you think this is because you don't need it. I have noticed for many years that people with very high end PC's seldom have empathy with gamers that have lower end PC's and treats them as idiots for not being able to afford a more expense high end PC when things like that are hardly their fault.

This has been suggested MANY times before. Heck it is in the STICKIED FAQ for crying out loud.

I know your trying to be helpful but these post pop up once a week, not really needed at this point (especially since it has its own stickied thread)
