Here is another obligatory return from nowhere to bump the firearms thread, for better or worse.

I might be getting in to late to "save" you Kajun, and if so then congrats on the ruger - a 10/22 is a classic first rifle. However, since you're in Canada, I would recommend you take advantage of your ability to get an SBR or SBS that civvies/non-duty weapon purchasers can't get down here without additional paperwork. Something like a 14 inch production run Remington Police Magnum, or a Noveske Crusader (if Noveske imports to your frigid hinterlands.) I could be wrong, but I'm under the impression it's a slightly quicker process than our four-to-six month sit on your thumbs process to get a suppressor as well for you eskimo types - a 11.5 to 14 inch barrel AR system of any type with suppression is a great first rifle, and 556 is a good balance of "big boy round" and small bore - very easy to learn on.

Zombies, interesting - you get a lot of bizarre SKS customizations, and I must admit that the platform has never appealed to me, but that kit actually borders on making the SKS look sexy. That is no small feat. monocle.gif

Hope that the shell casing incident reminded you of those cardinal rules of firearms safety, and also why it is that you should never put lead down range without eye-pro, ear-pro, and a brimmed cap. Be thankful you weren't a woman in a spaghetti strap blouse. Glad you enjoyed the M&P - I haven't tried the Gen4 glocks yet, but I don't think they can compete, even with the grip angle improvements; M&P is in my opinion the best thing going on the polymer side of the isle. Great flexibility in grip, as close to perfect hand-to-bore balance and height over bore positioning, and modularity. My only wish is that their compact size between sub-compact and full was close to the saintly Glock 19 in proportions. Size-to-Service, the G19 remains the perfect sized gun, excepting the commander sized 1911s.

I'm thinking of getting my dad some extra AR magazines for Christmas since his are all beat pieces of sh*t that came with the gun when he bought it. Anyone have any opinion on these? 20 round Polymer Mags

The Magpul PMAG is the only sensible option in the AR platform, hell, for any STANAG size magazine well. Those things are awesome, durable, and burly. Why get the twenties though? You're basically giving up a third of the weapons intended capability for only a dollar in savings. Check out Brownells.

PMAGs are indeed awesome. Unless your dad does a lot of bench shooting or some such where a shorter mag is needed, NWR is right about getting the 30's. Or, you could get him both. tounge.gif

ETA: 44Mag has them 70 cents cheaper than Brownells and ships for free.

So I got those PMAGs... love them, but that's not why I'm here.

Obama Denies the U.S One Million M1 Garands

South Korea has a stockpile of M1 Garands from from the Korean War that they want to give back to the U.S. The Federal government rejected the proposal.

I actually saw a magazine article about this at the range one day August/September, and anyone who knows my dislike about Obama, I just muttered "figures he'd do it" and went about shooting the Mosin. f*ck I just wanted to shoot! It just struck me again today. Imagine the new availability of these awesome rifles and the impact on pricing. I'd love to shoot one. I know there's plenty but with all of these new guns on the market, think the price would go down?

That sucks. Stupid Obama. I hope that petition gets the ban lifted, those are a sweet rifle.

When you say mosin, do you mean the Russian Mosin Nagant?

Yes, I am a huge fan of battle rifles. The Mosin was the cheapest and in my price range at the time.

To elaborate on it, it was made in 1925, still has a great finish on it, and it came with it's original sling, bayonette, and cleaning tool kit with pouch. I am thinking some kind of guard used it. It is not battle scarred whatsoever, unlike some 91/30s I have seen. Awesome nonetheless. The front sight is f*cked up though and I have been trying to tune it in since I got it. At 50 yards it is now accurate to 1/2 inch/inch off, but at a 100 yards it seems to still be off the wall. I have yet to try a large target though (3ftx3ft nah meen?)

edit i meant 91/30 and my usual targets are 1x1... maybe i just suck at aiming

It's still pretty sweet just to say you own one. I've always wanted to try shooting a KAR 98K. Apparently they've got some good kick to them.

It may be. Does not the Mauser use an 8mm round? A 7.62x54 is hardly a challenge though after the first 10 rounds of first time usage. I can not imagine 8mm being much different.

As for my dads big gun, he has a Marlin .450. A .45 caliber bullet in rifle form...wow, total shoulder breaker and I have never gotten past 8 rounds without feeling like sh*t. And yes, I have counted. 7.62 I can fire all day, but I only feel the reprecussions the next morning.

I got some Bump-worthy news:

A deal has been struck between my girlfriend's mother and I between the sale of her pistol and me working on her house. After 350 dollars in payment, some minor plumbing work, a leaky roof patch, and some other really minor sh*t, I will be the owner of a mint condition, less then 100 rounds fired, Kimber Eclipse Target II.

Sweet deal...350 and some work for a 1300 dollar 1911.

In other news, I was doing some searching around, and I found out a bullpup SKS conversation kit...

looks pretty sexy to me, like a Steyr almost....

Interesting alternative to a Steyr with a tight budget. 150 USD for the conversion and only the removal of rear leaf sight is required.

Presumably not for normal civilian use, firstly because the SKS is semi-automatic only, and secondly because, as far as I'm aware, it's illegal to own fully automatic or burst fire weapons in most countries.

I sincerely hope not, a child your age shouldn't own a fire arm, and I honestly doubt that magnitude of self defense is required in the school yard.

I may have posted this a while ago, but our family owns five firearms. My firearm is a Mossberg 500C, and we have three more 20-gauge shotguns that I'm not really sure what they are (a pump-action, a single-shot break-action, and a bolt-action that has a detachable magazine that holds two rounds). I think the other pump-action (my dad's gun) might be a Remington, and the break-action is from some Russian company. We also own a .22 bolt-action rifle that I believe is made by Remington also.

Squirrels or pigeons maybe? Rats?

Those are the only things I can think of. I've gotten shot with them before, and it only seems like a bee sting at the most...unless it's C02 powered.

Ha.

I didn't realise he was British. Guns aren't illegal per se, but extremely heavily restricted. Shotgun licenses are easy to get. Rifle licenses nearly impossible (you need proper, reasonable reasons for owning one). Pistols are illegal besides for police/military use. So yeah, he's a bullsh*tter.

Yeah...I was going to say something but my disgust for him derailing my "I am getting a Kimber" bump post was so heavy that I didn't even want to look in gen chat let alone post in it.

So it's a CO2 pistol with less than 6 pounds force, if my rudimentry understanding of firearms legislation serves me correctly. So no, you do not own a firearm. And by saying that you own it for "self defence" you're opening a whole other can of worms. Self defence against what?

Kimber is like the Apple of firearms. They make a good product but you are paying for the name, mostly.

Just bought a Sig 250. And 1000 rounds of 9mm for 9.50 per box (of 50). Not a spectacular deal but good nonetheless for plinking ammo.

Holy f*ck, nice. Way to celebrate the M1911's 100 years in military service, eh? Is it .45ACP or 10mm?

I was half surprised to see that the topic is now getting some more posts....

I am not a real large fan of shotguns, that may just be me. However.... Kel-Tec has brought about another new age of weapons!

Is it just me, or does it seem as if they could make a semi-auto version of that same shotgun, with the pump being used as a charging handle?

That's an awesome looking gun Kev. I want to own a 1911 some day. It'll be a pain in the ass up here to own one, but once all the paper work and BS is done, I should be okay. You have to be a member of a gun club or in law enforcement to own a handgun up here. confused.gif

I love THIS one.
