But there are also a lot more deaths by firearms in the U.S. ...as much as I'd love to have a sh*t ton of guns, maybe it's for the best that everyone up in our igloos don't have a bunch lol.

True, but we do have the weapons to defend ourselves. So if some mugger pulls a knife/gun on me I can pull out my .45 to blow his left leg into pieces to defend myself. With great power comes great responsibility. Gun control will only make the situation worse. We should worry about anti-VIOLENCE instead of anti-gun.

Not LEGALLY....but I'm not saying NOW. After I join the corps, I'll have a military Id...which can be used as a concealed carry license.

As Chris Rock once said we don't need gun control, we need bullet control. Then he said something about how one bullet should cost $5000. He makes a good point in a way biggrin.gif

You do realize that many politicians are trying to achieve this, just not as ridiculously expensive. The Second Amendment does stand in their way when trying to rid us of guns, but there's nothing that says they can't tax ammo to death and eventually accomplish the same thing. It's called social conditioning. It's easier for them to tell people who do not know what's actually going on that "Well, you can do this, but it'll cost you a lot", even though it's full of sh*t as some calibers that are now 40-50 cents a round used to be only 10-15 cents.

And it's only a good point if you believe in any of that, and if so... f*ck off.

I would double check before you actually carry (outside of work duties). Around here (Iowa) a military ID doesn't mean you can carry, it just means you don't have to take any qualifying or safety classes the state requires. But you still need to go get the permit.

Same in New York as well.

Not in GA, if you have a Military ID, Active duty, and are a resident in the state of GA you can have a concealed weapon ONLY in the state of GA, esp useful if traveling to Atlanta. I just wish pistols weren't so damn expensive...

Wouldn't it make just as much sense to get an actual permit, so you can cross state lines without worrying about there being an issue?

Actually, he could just carry and not conceal at the age of 21. His issue is buying a gun. The thing is, you can legally own a gun under federal regs if you are over the age of 18 yet under 21 if given to you by a direct family member. The only thing is that you can not purchase handguns and, in most states, handgun ammo. Carrying of a handgun is legal for any persons over the age of 21 without a concealed carry permit if more than 2/3 of the gun is visible.

Another thing is that CCPs do not carry over from state to state in most places. I know here in western PA you can get a tristate permit to carry into Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia but not all states do that. One of the big issues with that is the fact that states have different handgun laws. Lets say Illinois for example. In Chicago, there is a gun ban. Get caught carrying a gun even driving through and you are f*cked.

If you want to join the military to get an ID that can let you carry in your state, just f*cking wait. Thats joining for all the wrong reasons.

That's not one of the reasons I want to join, I didn't even know you could use it as a CCW until my father told me that he could carry a concealed weapon a few months back. I'm not joining the Corps until I'm 21 anyways, 2 years of college first.

Let me start off by saying I am a die hard Democrat (big deal shoot me) but I love guns unlike most Democrats. Personally, I think everyone should own a gun for self defense especially in these strange times we're living in. I being a resident of South Florida and an ex military man own several guns for self defense but also as a hobby I try to go down to the shooting range as often as possible. If you live in a large area you need a gun if you live in the "burbs" then you probably don't need a gun I say whatever helps you to feel secure and helps you sleep at night.

Yup, pretty sure. Depending on where you live, a 12 year old can get his hands on a firearm these days. I myself don't own one, but can sure as hell get one within hours if needed.

Any one can, just not completely legally, I could open up my closet and grab the SKS and I would have a gun at the age of 15. The point I was getting across was that the instant I reach legal age to own a firearm I will own one.

Why am I not surprised some guy living in his parent's basement is bitching about everything he sees?

EDIT: No one here is trying to be "tuff" just a Firearm topic for gun lovers. I know I'm 15, doesn't mean I can't love guns or post in here.

So, after some research I've decided that I'm going to buy a .22LR to mess around with as my first gun as I received my PAL/RPAL in the mail a few weeks ago. I was going to start off with a pistol, but the amount of extra work/money to purchase one and the restrictions (can only take them to approved ranges, and even then you require paperwork to authorize the transport of the firearm from your house to the range) associated with them in Canada I've decided a nice, non-restricted rifle would be my best bet. And with the cheap ammo, it's all pretty much in my favour.

The gun I want to start with is a cheapo Ruger 10/22. $300 give or take, and the design has been around for ages.

What I plan on doing with it is purchasing a ProMag Archangel stock conversion for it so that I can make it look how I want. Gives it a more "black" look, and I think it looks better than the Ruger SR-22 or Remmy 597 VTR. I would have bought a S&W MP-15 or a Colt M4 .22, but those are designated as restricted in Canada so they're only for the range.

The Archangel:

Now I wouldn't use the included barrel shroud as I'll probably buy a 12" or 13" barrel and put a fake can on it to give it that tacticool look.

All in all, it's a .22LR and I'm gonna have fun with it. If I look like a tard because I've got a fake suppressor, telescoping stock, and EOTech knockoff, so be it. smile.gif

Man we need to get this topic going again, almost hurts me to see it on page 3...

In other news, I was doing some searching around, and I found out a bullpup SKS conversation kit...

looks pretty sexy to me, like a Steyr almost....

Interesting alternative to a Steyr with a tight budget. 150 USD for the conversion and only the removal of rear leaf sight is required.

Had a chance to do skeet shooting for the first time. The weapons were a Remington 870 (Loved it), a Beneli Nova, and a breakbarrel Winchester from like 1920. Everything performed flawlessly but something about that 870 seemed to connect very well with me. I missed the first few pulls but once I settled in to the lack of sights for shotguns, I hit just about everything. The Beneli was a tad of a challenge but I was getting it towards the end of the 3 hours. The breakbarrel, heavy ass gun... that's about it. I wish I could just use that Winchester for a whole day so I could learn how to flip it up and sh*t like in some cheesy ass action movie.

To those who frequent this topic: what's a half decent, cheap, semi-auto or bolt action chambered for a .22 short rifle? I'm looking for something that can take out small game and take on 50 yard target shooting with nothing less short of awesomely.

Ahhh, back on the firearm topic....How I love it, esp after getting promoted to a Gunnery Sergeant today....

We bought a Savage Arms MKII Bolt-action rifle from Dick's sporting goods for 150 USD, it came with a scope and a 10rd banana magazine, but it has no iron sights.

If you want a Semi-automatic try getting a Ruger 10 22, thousands of customization possibilities and an original.

Edit: Disregard all of that. Thought you said LONG rifle. Why do you want a .22 short exactly?

Uh... My Savage MKII-F fires every .22 except magnum. They don't feed out of the mag reliably but I can pull the bolt back and pop in a .22 short or .22 CB cap any time I feel like it.

Also for the money the Savage MKII is excellent. Apparently they all come with AccuTriggers now.

Well mine isn't a MKII-F, it specifically says on the side of the barrel, .22 Long Rifle ONLY!!! I'm actually playing around with it right now.

On another note, when you are loading rounds into a magazine or on a stripper clip, or just handling the rounds normally, do you always keep the firing cap pointed towards you in case the round goes off? or is that just me...
