EFLC for the PS3

"I don't know entirely what I can talk about, but it's on Xbox. Microsoft came to us and said 'hey here is some money if you can bring the content to us FIRST"

http://www.ps3center.net/news/3967/rumor-r...-5-and-ps3-dlc/

So make of that what you will, but it is looking increasingly likely that what me and others have predicted ALL ALONG is going to happen ie the DLC is a TIMED exclusive and will eventually make it's way to the PC and PS3.

I agree....isn't that how the exclusiveness on the PS2 worked?? It stayed exclusive for about a year or so, then was on Xbox as well? With the exception of Madden and it's exclusive deal with the NFL, and Halo (because it's really an exclusive with Bungie, who worked FOR MS) there are not any REAL exclusive console rights.

Each game developer (I would think) would retain some amount control throughout, and regain FULL control after a certain time. Rockstar would NOT sell out on the PC and PS3 crowds for a measily $50 mil.

So all of us who like the PS3 and PC version (Yes, I own an XBox 360, but still love all 3 platforms) don't really have anything to worry about. It WILL get released for the 2 P's. The only question being is....when?

To start, i'm not a xbox 360 fanboy. I respect the PS3 for alot of things. But it must feel bad for you die hard playstation fanboys, to have a game which was once exclusive to playstation taken away from you. What a game to lose aswell, my heart goes out to you.

I merged your topic with this one.

What would be interesting is if we knew what exactly the language in whatever deal Rockstar and Microsoft agreed to. Was it to be exclusive only in the downloadable form, or exclusive in DLC and disc form but only for a certain amount of time, or what? I have a feeling it will end up on PS3 and possibly PC later on, although it might even be after the next full GTA installment comes out - possibly as a future bundle like when GTA3, Vice and SA were bundled together. It's all idle speculation at this point, and as GTA fans know, anything can happen when Rockstar Games is involved.

Here is the Ultimate Proof that :

Rockstar didn't EVER make a game only for a console. That means that they will release the DLCs to PC/PS3.And trust me that is a good reason for them to keep it that way !

GTA - First PC, after Playstation.

GTA 2- Both PC and Playstatioin

GTA III-PC,PS2 and Xbox later in Double Pack

GTA Vice City--PC,PS2 and Xbox later in Double Pack

GTA Advance-Gameboy Advance and Gameboy Color (correct me if i'm wrong ! PSP or DS wasn't released back there.

GTA San Andreas-PS2,Xbox and later PC

GTA Liberty City Stories-PSP later PS2

GTA Vice City Stories-PSP and later PS2

GTA IV-PS3, 360 and later PC

GTA Chinatown Wars-DS and Later PSP

GTA IV TLAD|

          | 360      (Waiting for the next console release.

GTA IV BoGT|

If you see there isn't a GTA only for one console !

Well, there's a first time for everything. And I don't believe $50 million was ever involved before. wink.gif Also, GTA Advance was not on the GBC, only on the GBA, as the title suggests.

Here is a bit of interesting information on the subject of the PS3 getting DLC.

Depending on the success of its sales. I mean Agent is a new game, so it could easily be PS3 exclusive forever, or if it does well it can come to 360 like Metal Gear Solid.

Just saw this, Not sure how reliable it is.

http://www.ps3informer.com/playstation-3/n...soon-010513.php

There seems to be a renewed hope that PS3 will get something.

It seems pretty old though, I mean we've had many R* people say that TBOGT is the last thing they are doing concerning the IV series of games.

Plus every "source" I've seen has come from a PS3 site and not general gaming sites.

The first leaked cover (which was the one we have now) had Only on Xbox 360 sticker on it. I went to the shop today - the sticker ain't there. Asked the salesman if EFLC is coming to PS3. Yes, it's a timed exclusive. I was just so happy to hear it from a guy from GameStop so much.

No, Gamespot doesn't know just like any of us. They are known to have their information wrong. I want it on the PS3 too, but what the gamespot guy said is to be taken with a huge amount of salt.

This is also worth a note too. I cant take a pic of it cuz my iPhone camera isnt picking it up, but at the back of the Episodes from Liberty City booket, theres this:

By installing and using this software, you consent to these information collection and usage terms, (including where applicable) transfer of data to Licensor and affiliated companies into a country outside of the European Union and The European Economic Area. If you connect to the internet when using the software, either through Xbox LIVE or PLAYSTATION Network, or any other method, Licensor may receive information from hardware manufacturers or platform hosts (such as Microsoft or Sony)....

This was under the warranty and terms of use section at the back. Could be nothing, but why would Sony and the PSN be mentioned on an Xbox 360 exclusive game?

I think its coming to PS3 very soon.

Interesting though.

Very interesting. I guess that means that R* had already preformatted EFLC for the PS3 system, which means all they have to do is make discs.

Very very interesting.

All the PS3/PC Guys were right. IT WILL COME. At Last in Summer 2010. But I think we'll see it in April.

It is either timed exclusive or the Disc Version doesn't count as DLC cause it says "Two Complete Games". cool.gif

I will laugh so badly at all the Xbox 360 Fanboys who said "No its not coming to the PS3/PC so f*ck off and buy a 360". I will laugh at them, then I'll lean me back and play Episodes from Liberty City.

sh*t I want these episodes on PC so badly. I just played the first two missions of The Lost and Damned over at a friend's house. Damn it's f*cking good. Yeah you can say it's a cheap job... different story in the same city but the atmosphere is well done.

I mean, in my opinion it does feel like a different game. Chapeau!

Hold ye horses.

Ok with all the suggestions and clues/hints and probabaly common sense, the exlusivity is for about 1 year or it is times, that i think is the most right. So therefore theres a 90% chance it will come out, we arn't TOTALLY sure yet, but i think it will deffinatly come to us aswell.

When do you think This time next year? Or will it come out like at Christmas or something...Christmas would be good. tounge.gif

This is from another guy (MrBeatdown) from the IGN forums. Thought you guys might like to see it as well

I'm 99% certain the $50 million was a advance payment from MS. Rockstar isn't raking in the normal profits on these games on top of a "bonus" $50 million. They won't see a dime from the episodes until MS recoups the $50 million. If you look closely at transcripts of Take 2 investor conference calls it pretty much confirms it. Considering that, it seems that in the long run keeping it 360 exclusive would no longer be benefial to Rockstar. In fact they would be losing money assuming porting the episodes to PS3 and PC would be profitable.

As for the Stories games, the first one wasn't out until Oct 05. MS ditched the Xbox in Nov 05 so even if Rockstar wanted to port them to Xbox, they couldn't.

So why exactly are the GTA episodes exclusive to the 360? It seems like the popular belief is that it's because Microsoft paid Rockstar $50 million dollars, or $25 million per episode. With the (awesome) Gay Tony trailer out, I've seen a few threads about it possibly coming to PS3 pop up. Someone always seems to come up with something along the lines of "It isn't coming to PS3. Microsoft paid $50 million to keep them exclusive."

That's what I thought too. Well, I've always thought it would come to PS3 at some point, but I still thought the deal between MS and Rockstar was basically a payment in exchange for exclusivity, whether it be timed or permanent. After all, that's what all the stories made it sound like when the news broke a few years ago.

Recently, I've seen a few people claim it was just a loan. With the $50 million supposedly being a payment for exclusivity, it is by far the biggest reason to think they would remain exclusive. But if it's a loan, it's a whole different story.

So I looked around. A few business sites referred to the deal as an "advance against royalties." What that would mean is that Microsoft essentially gave Rockstar their profits from the sale of Lost and Damned and Gay Tony in advance.

To back up the advance against royalties theory, I found a few statements from Take Two where they address "deferred revenue" related to the episodes. Deferred revenue is, according to Wikipedia, "revenue not earned until the delivery of goods or services, which until then, is still owed to the payer, hence remaining a liability."

It sounds to me like it basically was just a loan, not a simple payment for exclusivity. And that's based on info that's coming right from the the head honchos at Take Two.

Now let's look at this with some easy numbers. Hopefully I've got the general idea of how this works. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, let's say Rockstar gets $10 for each copy of Lost and Damned and Microsoft gets $10. If one million copies are sold, Microsoft keeps all $20 made from each sale for a total of $20 million. But since Microsoft is keeping Rockstar's share, the debt for Lost and Damned is reduced to $15 million. In the meantime, Rockstar considers $10 million of the $50 million Microsoft gave them to be profits for that financial period.

Now, time for some real numbers. I did a little research on what percentage Microsoft takes for each sale on XBL. Info was a little hard to come by, but the consensus seems to be 30% meaning the publisher gets 70%. So, if one million copies are sold, that means Rockstar has earned $14 million towards the repaying the debt to Microsoft. Lost and Damned supposedly passed the one million download mark back in April. That leaves roughly only 800,000 copies that need to be sold in order for the $25 million debt to Microsoft for that episode to be entirely repaid. Considering the one million sales mark was passed back in April, I don't think it is unreasonable at all expect that Rockstar will sell enough copies to completely repay the debt to Microsoft. I'm sure Gay Tony, especially with a return to all the over-the-top action found in San Andreas, will be be able to do the same and even give Lost and Damned a sales boost along the way. Throw the Episodes From Liberty City retail version into the mix and it seems like only a matter of time before the debt is repaid.

So is a soon-to-be-repaid loan enough to keep the episodes off of PS3 and PC? In the long run, there really is no benefit in keeping it exclusive to 360, at least that I can see. Obviously there are millions to be made on the PS3 and PC versions if they were to happen. This is something that I'm sure wasn't lost on Rockstar when they signed the deal with Microsoft which I'd think would keep them from signing away the option for PS3 and PC versions. I just don't see any reason to pass up the opportunity to eventually make it multiplatform when there are no long term benefits for Rockstar in keeping it exclusive to 360. I could understand why it would remain a 360 exclusive forever if that $50 million was a bonus from Microsoft compensating for any sales that wouldn't be made on PS3 and PC, but I don't think Rockstar would give up millions in sales just to say "thanks for the loan" to Microsoft.

In my opinion, sooner or later, the episodes will end up on PS3. As of right now, I no longer see any reason why they wouldn't.

I've looked around, and I've never seen anything that backs up the theory that it is a straightforward payment in exchange for exclusivity. I'm basing my theory off of what is coming right out of the mouths of Take2. Unless you can come up with a better explanation for what I found, I still think it's a "loan."
