leik oh em jeez!
Oh, of course. My current problems with cables and my nrear-future CPU cooler upgrades are my main reasons for the new upgrades. Also, an update on current CPU temps. Both CPUs idle between 20 C and 23 C. leik oh em jeez!
To anyone still wondering, a few of the upgrades I'll be doing this week are: Corsair 700D Corsair H50 for first CPU Heatspreaders for RAM I didn't really like the window on the 800D, so I figured I'd get the 700D, and do my own thing. The top will be a window, with green inlays in it. The bottom will be mesh, feature two 120mm green LED fans, and will be painted to match. Across the entire side will be part of the nvidia logo. Worked something up in Zmod so you have an idea of what I'm talking about. EDIT: Other side, with plexiglass mobo tray, and window modded HDDs: Edited July 6, 2010 by leik oh em jeez! Ryan
I like the side panel idea, however, why would you want to look at that hideous looking server motherboard?
leik oh em jeez!
I like the way my motherboard looks. Of course I'd like it a lot better if it were black with lime green RAM & PCI Slots. But anyways, this is what I have as of right now.
Midnight Special
Just got the new graphics cards installed and already have a major problem. In 3DMark06, I got 12,576 with the 8800GTX, 12,995 with two 1Gb 9800 GT's in SLI, and I just got 12,104 with two 896Mb GTX275's in SLI. SLI is enabled, though the option to choose which GPU to run PhysX on was not there. Why is my single 8800GTX beating two GTX275's? So you are saying that your 8800GTX beating two GTX275's? That's weird. Did you solve the problem or figure out what causes it?
Cursed
That Obsidian is definetly a massive upgrade over that old HP Workstation case. Looks much better now.
leik oh em jeez!
Slight change of plans. Will be upgrading to Opteron 2382's instead of 2378's. 2.5Ghz instead of 2.3. This change of plans will only end up costing me about an extra $35 total. The H50's are being put on hold until after the CPU upgrade. So you are saying that your 8800GTX beating two GTX275's? That's weird. Did you solve the problem or figure out what causes it? Still have no idea, I got a few decent runs before it went back to the 12,000s, the highest of which is in my sig. leik oh em jeez!
Two 120mm LED fans in the 700D. Starting prep for the quad socket motherboard. That's right. Going with four quad cores. Edited September 2, 2010 by leik oh em jeez!

Ryan
Are there even any such motherboards that have four CPU sockets?
yoječ
Why did you take this photo in kitchen? Good luck with your build, I'd love to see that beast finished
leik oh em jeez!
Are there even any such motherboards that have four CPU sockets? Tyan and Supermicro both have several quad-socket 1207 boards. Tyan has one that's expandable to 8 sockets. That's the one I'm getting. Why did you take this photo in kitchen? Haha, That's where my desk desk is, and it's where I cut the whole for the fan out of my 700D. (Dremel FTW) My girlfriend doesn't like the idea of upgrading to quad socket. She doesn't think I need it. What is she thinking? lol. Just got 4 AMD heatsinks with PWM fans for $20 on ebay. (these will be good enough for now, replacing w/ Zalman 9500 AM2 Editions eventually.) Now I just need the board and CPUs. Edit: I'm selling my old mobo/cpu/heatsink combo for $400 plus shipping. PM me for pictures. Double edit: Just got the motherboard open-box on NewEgg for $42. It's safe to say that for once in my life, things are falling into place nicely. Edited September 2, 2010 by leik oh em jeez!

leik oh em jeez!
haha, no. Four Zalman 9500 AM2 editions, the chrome plated ones with green LEDs. What you might not be able to see in the pictures: NZXT USB expansion board NZXT touchscreen fan controller Update: Got most of the wiring done. Just realized that the new motherboard has no onboard audio! This means that a razer barracuda AC-1 audio card will be the next upgrade. Should have one in 2-3 weeks. Ronnyboy
I always wanted the fan controller, tell us how well it works when you get it in. Also, I hope you have enough room for the card with those giant Nvidia's next to it.
leik oh em jeez!
I always wanted the fan controller, tell us how well it works when you get it in. Also, I hope you have enough room for the card with those giant Nvidia's next to it. Yeah, it'll sit in that last little PCI slot. I'm a little sad there's not enough room for more graphics cards or a killer NIC.

yoječ
I wonder if it'd work if you installed only 1, 2 or 3 CPUs instead of four
Ronnyboy
I showed this to a buddy of mine at school today (big PC freak), and he questions the usefulness of 4 CPU's, but still finds this to be kickass.
leik oh em jeez!
Bumpidy. Two opteron 8356 CPUs, system refuses to display anything. Also, I broke a screw off in one of the backplates that don't come off. Going to have to take a drill press to it. Selling the Opteron 8356's so I can just get some matched 45nm quad cores from a more reliable seller. Also, pictures of the dual socket system. Not new, but I feel they should be in this thread.
