leik oh em jeez!
First 8800GTX arrived. Waiting on the second heatsink bracket to install the 2nd CPU and heatsink, and install the other half of the RAM.

mike752
That rig will completely buttrape anything in its way. Just one question, though. Do you have money coming out of your ass? I wish I had some money like that.

Cursed
Those photos look pretty good. It's a pretty stange build though in my opinion. You have some OEM parts mixed with server parts mixed with gaming parts mixed with mid-range parts mixed with some old parts. I don't really see the attraction in building it in that old HP case. leik oh em jeez!
The case isn't that old. For the most part, the xw8200 case is the same as the xw9400 case; which the xw9400 is still HP's top of the line AMD workstation, and it's the motherboard I'm using. The Motherboard, RAM, Case, the V5600, and the keyboard are all OEM HP parts. The 8800GTX is a temp graphics card, getting two GTX 285s when I save up some more cash. There's not really any server hardware, it's just high-end workstation hardware. Basically I'm just bulding a workstation that can destroy GTA IV, and giving it a bit of a custom gaming PC look without it being too extreme. kingvercetti
That's a nice price for what it is actually, especially considering from the looks of it it's all upgradeable to top end stuff without a mobo change. Make sure you snap a picture or two of all four GPUs on the board, cos that is something I'd love to see. Sombra
And now I'm doing it yet again! System is now up and running with one CPU. I can only get the top most GPU to work at this point. (No primary display options in BIOS) CPU Idles at 22C, with an occasional jump to 23C. My old Sempron 3400+ idled at 29C with the fan on 100%, and 34C on default speed. Most of the time my CPU is at 50C (As it is now). I'm surprised that my GFX card is running at 49C. Good lucky with your build. Replacing the LED's seems like a good idea. Did you just have to solder in the new ones? join the 11%

The keyboard LEDs yes, the HDD LED I just stripped the ends and twisted them together, then put some electrical tape on the wire to help hold them together and to keep from shorting anything out. Now the first CPU seems to idle at 31C, and the second CPU idles at 56C. The problem is that the same air is used to cool the hard drives, then the first CPU, then the second CPU. Sombra
I just realized ctually how many LED's on a PC are green. Monitor, Speakers, Keyboard, Front of PC, Disc Drive Activity and wireless adapter! They should use different colours. When I get my new keyboard I might swap the LED's on my current one. join the 11%
leik oh em jeez!
Haha, I love how black and green go together. I used a blue HDD LED to honor the most amazing game console ever made, the Playstation 2. (with it's green and blue power and eject LEDs.) I was thinking the same thing.....odd with a build of this nature IMO. It just seems odd that you would opt for an external wireless G 'antenna' unless it was already apart of another harvested rig. Regardless of the minor nitpicking here, I envy the setup as it stands. and I just glanced over my leds and they are all green.....except when in standby naturally Edited February 20, 2010 by Master Headhunter La famiglia è tutto The strength of a family, like the strength of an army is in its loyalty to each other.~ Mario Puzo ~
leik oh em jeez!
Nice PC, gonna run any benchmarks? Maybe soon, busy tweaking everything, and trying to get the CPUs to remain stable at anything more than a 0.045Ghz OC. Obtaining Windows 7 x64 right now. And looking for one or two XFX GTX285's that are sub-$300 each. It just seems odd that you would opt for an external wireless G 'antenna' unless it was already apart of another harvested rig. My dad got another one when the USB jack got bent up and busted. So I took it and soldered it back together. Besides, I've got it chilling inside the case, and it doesn't waste a PCI slot. leik oh em jeez!
I have $60 towards the upgrades now. It's getting time to sell everything I'm not using. Check my sig for the link to the NVIDIA forums topic where I'm selling everything. BTW: Unless I find some INSANELY cheap GTX 285s, I'm getting two GTX 470s instead. Ryan
If you don't mind me asking, what's with the AMD Opteron's? Why not just a normal desktop CPU?
leik oh em jeez!
I already had a prior intrest in servers, then Skull Trail basically inspired me to want a dual CPU gaming machine. And when I started getting into modeling, I figured I'd be using my PC as a 3D workstation, so why not use workstation hardware? And you can't put two desktop CPUs in one system, you need server chips.
leik oh em jeez!
This is what the new system should look like after the upgrades, but with GTX 470s or 285s GTX275 COOP PhysX Editions instead of GTS 250s. leik oh em jeez!
Just got the new graphics cards installed and already have a major problem. In 3DMark06, I got 12,576 with the 8800GTX, 12,995 with two 1Gb 9800 GT's in SLI, and I just got 12,104 with two 896Mb GTX275's in SLI. SLI is enabled, though the option to choose which GPU to run PhysX on was not there. Why is my single 8800GTX beating two GTX275's?
