TheKryptonite
http://m.ufc.com/news/ufc-168-statement-anderson-silva "Following Saturday evening's UFC 168 main event, former champion Anderson Silva was taken to a local Las Vegas hospital where he underwent surgery to repair a broken left leg. The successful surgery, performed by Dr. Steven Sanders, the UFC's orthopedic surgeon, inserted an intramedullary rod into Anderson's left tibia. The broken fibula was stabilized and does not require a separate surgery. Anderson will remain in the hospital for a short while, but no additional surgery is scheduled at this time. Recovery time for such injuries may vary between three and six months. "Anderson is deeply touched by the outpouring of support from his fans and the entire MMA community. There has been no immediate decision about his future, and he would kindly ask for privacy at this time as he deals with his injury and prepares to return home to recover." Apparently it cracked on the first kick, and broke on the second kick. Ironically enough, Bas Rutten sent on how on not to break your shin when throwing a kick. W3BB13
Reminds of the same kick and broken leg someone got during another ufc fight. Corey Hill: According to the doctors Anderson has been asking when he would be allowed to get back to training, which means he's probably going to return. He'll be at least 40 years old by the time he gets back into the octagon, though. Corey Hill’s sobering advice for Anderson Silva and his return from a broken leg: http://mmajunkie.com/2013/12/after-anderson-silvas-injury-ufc-vet-corey-hill-talks-about-returning-from-a-broken-leg/ “To be honest, you will never truly recover,” Hill said. “I feel like I’ve grown, I feel like I’m blessed to be here, and I’m blessed to continue fighting. But as far as being 100 percent, it’s not going to happen.” Edited December 31, 2013 by W3BB13 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/429257-official-mma-topic/page/7/#findComment-1064418905 Share on other sites
GTA3Rockstar
His son wants him to retire and how long it will take to rehab, I'd say we saw the last of him. Tchuck
Despite the broken leg, I'd still put Weidman to win the encounter. He was simply countering anything that Silva threw at him. He obviously studied Silva enough to find his weaknesses as well as find how to stop his strengths (cue lifting the knee to parry the kick), while Silva didn't look like he had learned anything from the first fight at all. Then again, it was early in the fight and Silva could be saving himself for later, but still. Then again, it was early in the fight and Silva could be saving himself for later, but still. I'm with you. Weidman had Anderson's number. Broken leg or not, I don't believe Anderson would've won the fight, and I think if you put them in the cage 10 times Weidman would win at least 9 of those fights. Weidman's just a really bad stylistic match up for Anderson. Look at how easily Sonnen controlled Anderson in their first fight. Weidman's wrestling is better than Sonnen's, but he's also a much better striker and has a far superior ground game. Anderson wouldn't have caught Weidman with a sub off his back like he did to Sonnen, and although Anderson's possibly the best striker in MMA history, Weidman's striking is good enough to keep him awake against Anderson, and he could take him down almost any time he wants. The only thing Anderson had going for him against Weidman was low kicks, and at the end of the first round he went back to his corner and told them that he had already cracked his leg when Weidman checked one of his kicks in the first round. Of course the leg break was a freak injury, but even if the leg hadn't of broken, Weidman's ability to check those kicks would've eventually forced Anderson to avoid throwing many more of them because his leg would've been severely damaged, which would've greatly effected his entire offense. Of course he still had his boxing, but any time he spent throwing his hands would've opened up an easy takedown for Weidman. Anderson is easily my second favorite fighter of all time right behind GSP, but Weidman has the perfect style to beat a guy like Anderson. His era is over, but I believe he'll still be recognized as the GOAT in MMA. Also, I disagree with anyone who believes Weidman's first win over Anderson was a fluke. Anderson used to play that game against everyone; it was part of his game, and he got knocked out in the process. It's not like he didn't know Weidman was trying to knock him out. That's not a fluke at all. That's like saying that anyone who aims a punch, throws it, lands it, and knocks their opponent out with it won by a fluke. It just doesn't make sense. I Love Anna Kournikova
he fought at 135. He says the weight cut to 125 is to tough for him and that he lost his hearing once when he cut to 125. Last night was okay. Cerrone looked really good, as did Darron Cruikshak and Eddie Wineland. Henderson did not win that fight. It wasnt an absolute horrible decision because I can see how some scored it for him, but whoever the Judge was that scored it 49-46 for Henderson is a complete idiot. I can see 48-47 but whatever. I scored it 48-47 for Thomson, and I was rooting for Henderson. Jaytee83
Yeah I had Thomson for the fight, the judges seem to like Hendersons style. Yeah Cowboy looked good, loved his comment about Cole Miller in the post fight conf. "He's a turd the UFC haven't flushed yet." Shame about Pettis, always thought he was a flyweight. Looked a little small against Bruce Leroy. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/429257-official-mma-topic/page/7/#findComment-1064608131 Share on other sites

W3BB13
I was hoping Sergio would pull that win off against Bruce Leeroy as well. Either way it was an excellent fight. If Sergio could comfortably make that cut to 125 I think he could go on a serious run. He's just so small for 135. I can't stand Bendo, but I scored the fight in his favor 48-47. I was definitely pulling for Thomson though. I agree that the Barao/Faber fight was stopped a little early. I don't think it would've made a whole lot of difference since I expected Barao to beat Faber again anyways, but Faber really wasn't taking much damage when Herb stopped the fight. Machida/Mousasi and Jacare/Carmont were alright. I'm hoping Rousey will get squashed next weekend but unfortunately I don't see it happening. I'm interested to see how many PPV buys the event will pull in with Rousey being the main draw. A lot of people say she's a huge draw but we really haven't seen much proof of that yet. We'll find out this weekend. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/429257-official-mma-topic/page/7/#findComment-1064763106 Share on other sites
I Love Anna Kournikova
I'm not gonna buy this one. Its a sh*t card. W3BB13
Yeah, I don't buy any of them. I Love Anna Kournikova
I buy only the ones who I want to watch. Pettis, Faber, Jones and a few others. The rest I try to find an online stream. W3BB13
I used to do that but nowadays I just download torrents the following day. My internet really isn't good enough for streams; it constantly lags and skips so I miss a lot of the action. There was a period of about two or three years where I bought literally every PPV, but it was just too expensive. Some cards just aren't worth it, and the $5 price increase is a bit ridiculous IMO. I love MMA, but I don't like Dana White or the Fertitta brothers, so I feel no shame in not putting any more money into their product. What do you think of the Gilbert Melendez situation? I Love Anna Kournikova
If Melendez goes to Bellator its the biggest mistake he could make. However how the UFC could let someone walk who was just in the fight of the year in 2013 is crazy. Its a Lose-Lose-Win situation. GB and UFC lose, Bellator Wins. W3BB13
At first I was irritated that Gil would put himself in this position, but after I thought about it I'm actually pretty happy with his decision. Dana wasn't willing to pay him what he wanted and certainly deserves as one of the very best fighters in probably the most stacked division in the sport, so he agreed on terms with Bellator knowing that the UFC still has matching rights. Now Dana can either match Bellator's contract so that Gil can stay in the UFC and also make the money that he should be making anyways, or Dana will just have to accept that Bellator now has one of the best lightweights to ever compete in MMA. Obviously if Dana doesn't match the contract Gil's going to be stuck in Bellator, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, at least for a couple fights. Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler are two top level lightweights, so a fight against either of those guys wouldn't really hurt Gil's career unless he loses, plus he'll be making the money that I believe he deserves. I'm not sure what exactly he agreed on with Bellator, but if he were to beat Alvarez and Chandler he may be able to renegotiate with Dana and get back into the UFC if that's what he wants. Gil definitely belongs in the UFC fighting against the best of the best, but Dana and the UFC have been grossly underpaying their fighters for so long now that I'm happy to see someone finally step up and do something about it. I think if more great fighters were willing to do this it'd be a step in the right direction in regards to fighters being paid what they're really worth. If the UFC matches Bellator's offer Gil will have handled this situation perfectly by getting the money he wants and deserves as well as fighting against the best in the world. Waldburger Stephen Thompson vs. Robert Whittaker PRELIMINARY CARD FOX Sports 1, 8 p.m. ET Alexis Davis vs. Jessica Eye Raphael Assuncao vs. Pedro Munhoz Cody Gibson vs. Aljamain Sterling Zach Makovsky vs. Josh Sampo PRELIMINARY CARD UFC Fight Pass, 7 p.m. ET Erik Koch vs. Rafaello Oliveira Ernest Chavez vs. Yosdenis Cedeno There's some solid scraps tonight. I'd like to see the Koch fight, but I don't mess around with that Fight Pass nonsense so I'll probably catch it tomorrow. Makovsky/Sampo and Davis/Eye are solid prelim fights. I'm excited to see Whittaker and Pyle, plus MacDonald/Maia, DC/Cummins, and Rousey/McMann should all be interesting. I'm hoping DC looks just as good or better at LHW as he does at HW, and I'd love nothing more than to see McMann beat Rousey even though I really can't see it happening. W3BB13
The main card was great. I thought the main event was stopped a bit prematurely, but other than that I was happy. Gilbert Melendez made out like a f*cking bandit: UFC matches Bellator offer for Gilbert Melendez, who will coach TUF 20 against Anthony Pettis Not only does Gilbert get paid what he originally wanted (perhaps even more than that), but he also gets a title shot after TUF. W3BB13
Yeah, I was disappointed about that too, but in all actuality Pettis really doesn't deserve that fight yet. He hasn't even defended his belt once. Don't get me wrong, I love Showtime. He's probably my favorite fighter right now. But when I heard he was fighting Aldo I thought it was a little too soon. Plus, Pettis vs. Melendez will be a f*cking scrap. I'm a big fan of both guys so may the best man win. TheBeard
Agreed man. Melendez vs pettis could easily go either way. Just think if Aldo could beat pettis he would get more respect from the casual fan just by carrying the belt in the 155 class. W3BB13
It could still happen some day, but I won't keep my hopes up. There's been so many potential superfights over the past several years that have been scrapped all because of bad timing or because the UFC just didn't push to make it happen. Scarface vs. Showtime would certainly be one of the best possible superfights they could put together. TheBeard
I think in the ufc's eyes neither pettis nor Aldo are big enough names to try a push as a super fight. W3BB13
Seems there scared to have one of their champs lose to another one. This is exactly why the fight isn't happening. With GSP retiring or at least semi-retiring and with Anderson Silva being nearly done as well the UFC has pretty much run out of cash cows and the last thing they want to do right now is have any of their top dogs lose, which would obviously have to happen if Aldo and Pettis were to fight.
