sig request

Recommended Posts

Now you did say sig, not avatar. I resized it to fit within the sig limits and kept size to preserve the aspect ratio, if I just resized it to fit in the sig limit it would stretched out and squished.

There are avatars that big and bigger.

I also don't see a filesize limit. All it says is "The filesize of all your images will be checked. If they are too big, the changes to your signature will not be saved." Well how big is too big?

According to the rules, more then 80 kb is too big for a sig. Avatars can be over 500 mb if one feels like it.. confused.gif

I was going by only what the sig settings page says.

Then they need to mention that on the settings page. Also listing the sig pixel size limit would be nice too; they do it for the avatar.

So I have to look in 2 places to answer 1 question.

Can you link to where in the rules you read that?

No lie; I can't find the forum rules much less anything that says the sigs can only be 80kb.

Pinned in the "announcements" forum.

Signature Size Rules

There is no limit on dimensions for avatars, as they're automatically "shrunk" to fit. There used to be a file size limit on avatars (80kb) but it was removed. As for sigs, they've been 500x150 and 80kb since before I joined. If it's over 80kb it won't let you save it as your sig. The dimensions are simple, as you'll get red lines in your profile or the sig edit page.

Also, all of the applicable rules are on the pages you'd need to use to set your avatars/sigs. The sig settings page has a link to the page I just linked to.

Ah that's why, it's not underlined in the default skin user posted image

And what I meant about pixel size limit is actually saying it needs to be 500x150 like it says in the rules themselves.

I know this topic has gone completely off the rails here and I hate to continue it but...

On the avatar settings page it says that the avatar can't be bigger than 64x64. Sure it says it in the rules as well but having it on the user's settings page makes it easier to find the rule.

But the sig settings just say 'it must fit within this box and if it's too big the box turns red'. This makes it harder for those didn't read the rules or can't find them to get more details as to the size limit to where they can't just go straight into Photoshop (or the alike) and set their new image size to that limit and know without any kind of struggle to make their sig. In the past I've had to use screen caliper program to measure what the box is, but that works that one time and then I forget. It's nifty and all to create the box that will be green if the sig fits and red where/when it doesn't, but I'd rather also have something that says what the limit is.
