Can you please tell what's nicer here?

The grey one is the right idea but needs work.

Here's what I would do.....

Get the text where you want

Now make a copy of that layer

With that copy layer: Edit->Transform->Flip Vertical

Move the copy layer so that it directly below the upright text

Still on the copy layer, in the Layer palette click the icon at the bottom 3rd from the left (or Layer->Layer Mask->Reveal All)

Besure to click on the mask on that layer

Grab the gradient tool

Set the colors to black=foreground, white=background

Put the mouse on or below the text, shift+left click+drag up. Play around with the gradient until you get what you want. You can undo and re-apply it over and over until you get your desired effect.

Thanks man! I actually wanted to know how to do that for a totally unrelated project of mine.
