skyjumper303
What console is a good buy for just this game? I've seen so many 360 consoles out there I don't which to buy for just one game. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Darth Andrew
Next time, do your own research, like the rest of us. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/compare101.htm
Wenis IV
Don't get an Arcade, especially if you plan on downloading BoGT, because then you'd need to shell out some more dough for the harddrive. Just get the Elite.
RomanViking
Darth Andrew, what he's asking is basically what internet forums are for. GOSH Anyway, I recommend one of the newer models, since they apparently have less problems. A hard drive is recommended, although there are the memory cards too. If you get a 360, don't play it for 6+ hours straight, because then it will overheat and die. I'm trying to spread this around: every 2 or 3 hours you need to shut the Xbox down. Then give it at least a one hour break. Do this and your chances of getting the dreaded rings will go way down My first Xbox was sent to an early grave, probably because I played for like 10 hours straight every day Ask about warranties too. Good luck
Wenis IV
If you get a 360, don't play it for 6+ hours straight, because then it will overheat and die. Not the newer models.. (aka any model you find on a store shelf these days). I got a 20gb console for christmas in 2007, I've left it on for over 24 hours on accident a few times and it hasn't had any problems at all. RomanViking
You might as well tell him to wrap it in a towel and leave it in direct sunlight then. I got my first 360 in 2008, brand new. And it was broken within 6 months. I played it for long periods; and that's probably why it died. Telling him to not be careful, or at least use common sense, is just... dumb. AreXi
If you get a 360, don't play it for 6+ hours straight, because then it will overheat and die. Dude, stop spreading lies. I have played CoD4 straight for 12 hours and Fallout 3 straight 14 hours and no problems. @Faledek: There is no such thing as "White Elite", atleast you can't buy one from a retail store. Of course someone might have bought a HDMI cable, headset and a 120 gb HDD for a white 360 and then have sold it.

(aka any model you find on a store shelf these days). I got a 20gb console for christmas in 2007, I've left it on for over 24 hours on accident a few times and it hasn't had any problems at all. Not even on the old consoles. My 360 red ringed after not having played it for about a week. I turned it on and it red ringed on me. I'm not a huge fan of Microsoft because they do indeed half-ass all of their products, but telling someone to shut down their 360 every two hours for an hour break is overkill. The point is, it's not just that the 360 overheats after playing for 7 hours straight, it could happen at any time, as in my case, right after I turned it on. RomanViking
The breaking of an Xbox 360 doesn't just happen out of nowhere, it's a gradual breakdown (melting) of a chip caused by long term overheating. I'm not saying that's the way it should be, but it's something we should be cautious about: leaving it on for too long, too often.
Mafioso86
I got my 360 (Pro/Premium/whatever it is) in December 2007, after they "fixed" the red ring problem. Despite the horror tales of the red rings and my lack of faith in Microsoft, I'm a lazy drunk idiot and have the habit of leaving my 360 on for days at a time... happy to say though that I've had no problems with it at all. I'm not saying "Oh it's fine to do this," it's always better to be on the safe side, but I think the idea of limiting the amount of time you play for to 3 hours is a little excessive. Also beware of retailers... When I bought mine I had one salesmen telling me that the only way to avoid the red ring problem was to buy the Elite which was at the time $550 as opposed to the Pro's price of $350 (US)... fortunately I spoke with friends and shopped around and was given a unanimous response that that salesmen was trying to sucker me into paying more. Of course I'm just babbling on because I believe that they just discontinued the Pro and dropped the Elite to a price of $300. While everyone has been bashing on the Arcade... I'm no expert, but it may be a good option for you. I don't think you would be capable of downloading the games off of Live if that's what you're planning on doing... but if you're planning on buying the Episodes from Liberty City disc (and that's the only 360 game you plan on playing)... I don't think you would have any problems with it and it's $200 as opposed to $300... again I'm not an expert on memory and what not, anyone else have any thoughts on that? nlitement
Confusing? There are like 500 different PS3 versions with different regions, hard drives, and emulation capabilities. 360 is easy: Arcade for those who want to get ripped off, premium for those who just want to play games, and elite for those who are gonna be installing tons of games on their hard drive and want a black 360. RomanViking
again I'm not an expert on memory and what not, anyone else have any thoughts on that? My first Xbox was an Arcade, obviously no hard drive. But it came with a memory card thingy which was more than enough to save all my game saves on. I don't think it has enough memory for downloadable content though. I recommend one with a hard drive. I'm probably way off in my assumptions, but it seems that most don't buy the Arcade model, so when someone does buy an Arcade, it's been sitting on the shelf for over a year, and since it was manufactured quite a while ago it might* have more defects. I am more than likely way off base though, so who knows... IMHO, the black elites aren't as visually appealing as the white 360s. Something about the black paint looks tacky to me. PS3 is black, 360 is white. I mean, what if Sony released a ceramic white PS3? You know what? Actually that would be pretty cool looking lol. So disregard that last paragraph Darth Andrew, don't worry about it mang. Also, you're probably right about this thread not belonging in this section. macorules94
I have the Premium, which I got in August, and I have a Jasper chip. There's no real difference between Elite and Premium, just HDD, and a few extra cables. I don't believe the Pro even exists anymore. It was phased out when the Elite was dropped down to $299. And just for your information topic creator, the newer 360 models have about the same failure rate as any other electronic device. The RROD is not something to worry about anymore when buying a new 360.
Tsar_Smirnoff
It's hard to say, the 360 and PS3 are pretty competitively priced right now, and the PS3 is building up its own library of games. I bought my 360 when they were still known as the "Pro"(or Premium, whatever the hell they're called) models back in the summer of 2006. It f*cked up on me and they sent me a 2007 model and I've had that one ever since(had to have the GPU repaired once). Back then, the PS3 had an astronomical price tag and not many notable titles(I'm an FPS person), so I just went with the cheaper option. I know one thing though, if that 360 f*cks up one more time I'm getting a PS3, especially now since they've gotten the price drop, damn the DLC's. Magic_Al
Does anyone know if it stays cooler sitting in the horizontal position or vertical? Mine is vertical and I've had no problems but it was horizontal when I first had it. Also I play with games fully copied to the HDD so the optical drive isn't running, so that probably makes it cooler too because the HDD is on top. 2008 model after the chips and power consumption got smaller. damian001
I bought my 360 Elite when GTA IV came out (April 29, 2008?) and my 360 died last Saturday via the E74 error. I suppose the GPU failed because a few hours before, all my games were getting red and green lines everywhere. Then again, I've been leaving my 360 on for 6+ hours for the past 2 months. I would've gotten a PS3 if I wasn't such a huge GTA fan wanting the expansion packs. I'd probably use it for the blu-ray too. Hell, the only reason why I bought a console was because of GTA IV. It sucks that it died a few weeks before the BoGT comes out. I hope my repaired one comes in right by the release date.

PhilipO43
Here's a few tip to not have the rrod occur: -Don't overwork your 360 with cheats that put too much work on the CPU and GPU. Here's an example, i had many 360's since it's launch and during Niko's storyline i entered the FP like cheat(-->grab a c4 from packie and place it under a cab, then call packie to detonate it, after you die, use your sniper gun and now your playing in FP view) and soon after i went crazy on LC and had 6 wanted stars and cops and helicopters following me everywhere. Well after 10 min's of that, my pro 360 had the rrod. -Don't leave your 360 on for extended periods without good ventilation. -Always(even if you have to make space on your HDD) make sure you install the game your playing to the HDD, so that the DVD is not spinning suring the game. Many RROD's occur because of constant spinning, which leads to more heat inside the 360, which casn trigger a RROD or other errors. -Never move your 360 while the DVD is spinning(this is why installing the game is also important). -Try to keep the 360 upright, because the vents are on it's side, and it will stay more cool if it's upright rather then flat. -Always keep your 360 in an area that is not very warm. Don't keep it near say a heat vent or in the back of a large panel HDTV..or near anything that puts out heat. During the summer keep it in a room with air conditioning(or open a windows). Those are a bunch of ways of making sure you never get a rrod or another error. Ohh, and too much is made of the rrod, because i had a 360 everyday here since it's launch and i had only 2 360's break down, one because of the above mentioned cheat and putting too much work on the cpu/gpu. And the other was the checkerboard pattern error of which happened when i was without air condition during some real hot days. Since i got my Elite when it was released i believe in the spring of 08?, it's been working perfectly. But other then those couple times, i take good care of my 360. So good luck and take care of your 360. Phil btw: I used Best Buy's return policy to upgrade from the original 20gig to a 60gig, to replacing both 360 pro's that had broke down, and then to upgrade to the Elite. Howerve BB does not issure the rrod anymore even if you buy innsurance on your 360.

CookPassBabtridge
OP, I would say go for the Elite, as others have. Thats what I have and its been a good machine. But going back to your first post, if you just want an Xbox for TBOGT only, it doesnt really matter which you choose. I guess the cheapest option if you arent going to use it for much else. (i kinda pushed it, because the're were cop cars & helicopers everywhere and the frame rate was taking a major) I have not done that cheat since, just to stay on the safe side.
