This may not be the last episode.

It was already confirmed that "The Ballad of Gay Tony" will be the final episode for GTA IV.

From USA Today:

Rockstar Games' grand epic Grand Theft Auto IV writes its final chapter Oct. 29. And the action is as over-the-top as the title: The Ballad of Gay Tony.

Meh, USA Today ain't Rockstar. How do we know Mike Snyder ain't just repeating something he read on the internet somewhere? You can't believe everything you read on the Internet, that's how World War One got started.

I seriously doubt that USA Today, a well known newspaper company, would pull anything that comes out of their own asses.

Secondly, they were talking to Dan Houser when they were doing this article, and he would've made it clear on whatever or not it would be the final DLC.

Confirmed where? Post an actual quote / source. I serously doubt Dan houser has confirmed or denied anything about future content since BOGT hasn't even launched yet. This may be the final (exclusive) DLC but in my opinion liberty city still has stories to tell.

I hope it's not the last episode. I can't stand waiting two to three years just for another game.

you won't! the physics engine hasn't been used to it's full potential on the IV era yet anyway. R* wouldn't have us wait that long unless they bring the next generation GTA in already. I don't see GTA V coming until probably 2017. We still have Vice and San Andreas (hopefully)!

Even if they say it's the next episodic content it's the last Xbox exclusive DLC. So if R* has more episodes the PS3 users can take a step into 2009-2010 GTA IV! Finally.

So I guess the title of that article, "Grand Theft Auto IV journey will end with a bang", doesn't validate anything.

Here's another quote from Houser from the same USA Today Article:

"We definitely wanted it to feel more like the way action films are when they get ridiculous," says Houser.

"Suddenly you're lifting up train cars with helicopters and it looks amazing and ridiculous, and after what you've gone through in the past, you're like, 'wow, this is a really good payoff for completing this journey.' "

gordan would be perfect. but i think he should have his own full game. don't ask me why. actually i think it's because im getting tired off 20-30 mission DLC's that i can beat in a day or two. (with naps and bathroom breaks) confused.gif

I see what you're getting at but it's not proof of anything in fact it raises my suspision more "THIS journey"?

Like I said before it's just my opinion. GTA is Rock*s flagship franchise and I believe they won't abandon IV just yet.

Also that article was most likely written by someone with little to no knowledge of videogames/systems (much like xbox customer support and every gamestop employee I've ever dealt with)

I hope it's the final episode for IV, don't get me wrong I'm going to play the sh*t out of TBOGT, but aren't you guys tired of Liberty City yet, location wise? Or am I the only one? I'm ready to see another locale...

Again, the title mentions the GTA IV journey. The journey of the American Dream.

To be honest, I would rather just go straight to the sequel rather than to try and prolong IV's lifeline. R* North is already working on their other "big" game, "Agent" and I don't know if we'll even see a 3rd DLC.

Funny that you claimed that the writer had little to no knowledge about video games. Especially when USA Today reporter Mike Snider, the one who wrote that article, specifically writes video game related articles, and strangely, golf.

R* was questioned about the PS3 possibility on their website, and all they did was swerve the topic to upcoming PS3 games, which kind of loses any hope on that.

The next full GTA game will likely be based on the IV engine, so it won't take more than two years for Rockstar to crank out another one. So 2013/2014 is a stretch.

Therefore, I think the IV era is spent. Expect no more GTA except *maybe* another handheld game. Otherwise, I think 2010 will be the year for Red Dead Redemption and Max Payne 3 and maybe a little bit of Agent; so no more GTA until 2011, in fact I'll feel a bit overblown with too much GTA.

That theory seems pretty accurate

The Euphoria and RAGE engine are still relatively new so it's very likely that we'll see both engines used.

Plus, Sony and Microsoft both have claimed that their current consoles' lifecycle won't end anytime soon.

Sony mentioned that the PS3 has a 10 year lifespan, while the 360 has 7 years, with Natal promising to add an additional three to eight years to it.

But I'm still skeptical about MS, especially with their hardware problems (especially the RROD).

If they do make a 3rd DLC, i hope it involves anyone BUT Gordon. Gordon was an idiot.

Love him or hate him but Hip Hop Gamer seems to believe that there will be 2 more forms of dlc, 2 indeed 360 exclusive (TL&D + TBoGT) but 2 more by way of DLC, he did not exactly say it was two new episodes but 'downloadable content' for the 360/PS3 also.

It's somewhere on his site and he beleives this because of a discussion he had with R*.

I think the guy is a heavily biased PS3 fanboy but he's not known as a liar.

Either way I win because I have the 360 anyway.

Gordon was cool. End of story.

Still, no big deal, just so long as they keep making games. Personally, I hope the next big thing is either a straight-to-PS2 San Andreas Stories, a IV-engine Vice City, or a trip to London, Carcer or Anywhere.

But one can also assume that just means the whole "trinity" journey. There very well could be other DLC's with characters not involved in the "trinity" crossover. Gordon Sergeant could be one.

The important thing to remember: GTA is Take Two's cash cow. They have never wanted to go more than two years without releasing a GTA title on some platform and sometimes they've cranked out multiple GTAs per year.

It's probably true Rockstar North is going to be too focused on Agent to do anything major with GTA for a while. But will Take Two go a long time without GTA money? No f*cking way. They can't even necessarily make a profit when GTA is breaking sales records, so they sure can't survive long without a new GTA. The cheapest, fastest thing to do is more episodes. Now that Rockstar North has worked out the formula, another Rockstar studio could do the work, the same way the Stories games were made, the same way Chinatown Wars was made. Hell, the same way Bully, Midnight Club LA, and Red Dead Redemption were/are made with the same technology and production values. Maybe only Rockstar North can or should do a full GTA but the other studios have certainly proven themselves.

I think future episodes will be less connected to the GTA IV story because that story was designed for Niko, Luis, and Johnny, and trying to squeeze anything more from it would feel forced. There are a lot of characters in GTA IV but Johnny and Luis were specially set up in IV to be episode protagonists. There aren't any more like that.

Future episodes would be as separate as Chinatown Wars is, but they would be in the same city and continuity, and if there is more than one future episode the new episodes could intersect with each other, to make a two-game "Episodes from Liberty City II."

Yes, Microsoft paid $50M to get the first two episodes but that money is not necessary if the episodes sold well enough. Rockstar doesn't normally need to be paid in advance to make a game. They bet on sales. And without an exclusive on future episodes they could bet on twice the sales.

Like Niko says, they need money, this pays, they're good at it.

Some analyst has also mentioned that possibility as welll, but that's his prediction.

A discussion can't really be validated. He can say that he talked to R*, but there's no proof of that.

Regardless, I think 2 DLCs work best. I just don't want GTA V or whatever the sequel will be called to be delayed further than it already is.

"Delayed further than it already is"?

They have the stuff, Rockstar can easily release a new GTA in late 2011. But I agree that 2 DLC's is enough.

Also, that's like saying Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories delayed GTA IV. Not at all. They were "easy" projects that kept money rolling in while Rockstar North was working so long on GTA IV. Rockstar North went straight from San Andreas to IV and only a few people consulted back and forth while Stories were done elsewhere.

More episodes could be done the same way and have zero impact on the timing of Rockstar North's next GTA.

That's what I'm talking about. They've already laid the foundation (rage, euphoria and a huge map) it wouldn't take much to make future content. It wouldn't have to involve any of the current characters or even be in the same timeline.

Off topic: I really doubt anything like this would ever happen but I'd like to see a 360/ps3 version of rockstars warriors set in liberty city (a modified 70s rendition of course)

I'm pretty sure the Houser Bros hinted at the "possibility" of more DLC after the two 369 exclusives... I don't remember the exact quote, but it sounded like it was atleast being considered. Now that might not mean another "episode" with a story and missions... but maybe something like vehicles and features. Hell... it might be a long shot but maybe they could have a DLC that would allow Niko access to all the vehicles and weapons from TLAD and BOGT. I don't know how that would work with Microsoft's contracts, but it might be possible for the PS3 and PC people to gain access to that stuff in addition to the 360 people being able to use it with Niko rather than only Johnny and Luis. Then again maybe it could be new multiplayer/online stuff. I think back to how people on these forums form the gangs and what not... maybe they could have some kind of gangwar based mmo DLC that is set in Liberty City, where you'd use one of the existing gangs' (mafia, spanish lords, lost, etc) templates and build your own around it. I mean it's pure speculation, but who knows.

If more DLC for GTA4 was to be added, i'd expect it would centre around the multiplayer more than anything else.

If more episodes were in production though, for the love of f*ck they need to add in some new locales along with it. Possibily give Alderney abit more landscape. Liberty Citys a pretty atmospheric and enjoyable city but its charm has long gone for me.

Four games (or partial games at least) on the same map, they got their money's worth out of it. Or maybe multiplayer should count as a 5th. It's a compliment to how dense the map is that anyone thinks more could be done with it.

Come to think of it, San Andreas is the only 3D GTA map that's only used once.

like 5% of GTA IV players bother with DLC if not less.

DLC doesn't hinder anything.

They have multiple teams working on all sorts of different sh*t. They have people working on the next GTA, red dead revolver, DLC, midnight club, etc.

Them making DLC is just another team. You guys realize how big rockstar is right? lol

No way they will make another DLC for GTA IV. They've pushed Liberty City to the max. Plus, who will be the new protagonist then? The "Impossible trinity" achievement made sense; we will only be able to play three different characters in Liberty City.

While I dont think there will be another full episode, I would like to see some more downloadable stuff. Things like interiors, stores, vehicles, safehouses etc. But this time for everyone. LC could be added to for a long time until it's maxed out IMO

I think you ARE fooling yourself, given the cry of UNFAIR from PS3 owners, I believe Sam Houser's intent will stretch beyond the initial deal, to support GTA4 in this way for a number of years in fact, it seems entirely possible with what we've seen, and ushers in a new way of gaming, they can build on what they've established, and do it in a more timely manner. Not to negate the need for a new city and landscape, but with their learning curve much shorter, both possibilities speak to fun times ahead!

The over all staff at Rockstar North is about 350 people I gather, from prior report, some new staff added.... but Rockstar Leeds did the handhelds, so don't lump their work together, it's different teams. RN is the main GTA and DLC people working on that. I believe they have to be working on both ends, DLC and GTA5, however, Sam said early on that he plans to support this effort under GTA4, and they are driven with the idea of what can be done, not that they fulfilled their contract, successfully, this is more then a business endeavor for them, it's their fantasies fullfilled, so they are driven to creating the GTA environment, and I know I am addicted to the point I find it hard to stop, even with pressing matters like making REAL money.

In a way, GTA addiction is like those consumed by online virtual worlds, only this one is a much more fun "REAL" world to partake in.

Given the time line, things could have changed, but if they just drop the ball with DLC at this point, there's something amiss

I like the idea of a new gen WARRIORS game mentioned earlier, but no need to use Liberty City gen4 for it, it should steer away from NYC, perhaps? And not echo the film obviously

Too big for the PSP, which is why they should make San Andreas Stories as a straight-to-PS2 title, and have it be the final game for the aging system, thereby allowing them to pull out all the stops.
