Omega52
The exact problem is that when I load the game, the disc load pointer shows up, then the resolution goes to 640x480 like it's about to run but the screen remains black. Sometimes I can see other things overlapping the black screen, such as the start menu bar. I've tried deleting the "set" file that was talked about but that GTA folder was empty to begin with, I've tried running the program in XP, and 98 mode. I've tried reinstalling. But the same thing happens, the only way for me to close the program from the black screen is with the task manager. Relevant PC Specs; OS: Windows XP x64 bit edition CPU: Intel Core2Quad @2.50GHz Memory: 4 GB DDR3 1333MHz GPU: NVidia GTX 295 1.7GB This rig plays games like Farcry 2 and Crysis on max settings at a decent frame rate, so the hardware can't be inadequate. I'd appreciate your help and if I find anything out on my own I'll be sure to post my solution.
Spuds725
does your card support 640 x 480?? If not, download this .set file and put in in place of yours and see if it will start up-- this one should start the game in 800 x 600 for you and then you can change to what you want. http://www.freewebs.com/spuds725/gta_vc.set No promises the above file will work. If it does work and after you get the game running the way you like, you may want to backup the .set file in case you ever change anything and need to get a functioning one again... Your PC may be too high end to run VC Are you running game in windows 98 mode?? Problem #11 in the pinned buglist thread may be pertinent to your problem... http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=188753 Looking through the buglist may offer some solutions... sorry I'm a PS2/PS3 guy so the amount of help I can offer is limited-- I do own the PC version of VC on a low end machine with shared vid memory and it worked just fine at lower resolutions. I do wish you luck.
