DemonKing
Right so yesterday I decided to buy a 1TB external drive to hold all my music on. So I moved the entire "my music" folder over to my new external drive last night. I deleted all my itunes library as the folders where the music used to be had been moved and re-imported them again. So last night it works fine with no issues I boot up this morning and it says the folder "itunes" can not be located, it is typically in the "my music" folder. So what do I have to do? Do I have to move the itunes folder back to it's original place? Will this cause any problesm in itunes itself? I'm on Windows btw.
kingvercetti
Edit > Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Media Folder Location > Change > Choose the iTunes folder on your new drive. Should fix it I'd imagine, but I have a few other ideas if it doesn't work.
DemonKing
Sorry should've mentioned itunes won't even start up so I can't do that.
Rhoda
That's very odd that it won't start up at all. What I would have usually suggested is you copied all your music to your device, ensured that copy was on there, delete your iTunes library and then delete the copy from your computer, leaving you with all your music on your hard drive. When you import the music from your hard drive, a new directory is then created, but I do know iTunes won't be able to find it if the device is disconnected. Are you keeping your hard drive connected?
DemonKing
Well my HDD is connected as this moment but I did unplug it when I switched it on this morning as my PC won't start up if something is connected in the USB ports at the front (weird I know), but it's connected now yeah. Rhoda
I think it's a problem of your HDD being disconnected at the time of iTunes trying to find the library. Try restarting your computer and then plugging your hard drive in before turning it on. Load your iTunes and then try again maybe?
DemonKing
Ok so I tried re-connceting the drive, uninstalled itunes restarted the PC and still no give. I'm at wits end here, what the hell do I do?
Star-Lord
I would suspect your registry is pointing to the wrong location. Try this. OK, before making any changes to your registry whether as simple as they may seem it's highly recommended that you make a full backup before proceeding. Goto Start Click on Run Type in "regedit" Enter --------------------------------------- Type in "My Music" Double Click at "Shell Folders" at the right pane double click on "My Music" and change value data to where your folder is now located. ----------------------------------- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Folders Do the same here if needed? But you should be fine with the first one above. Exit your registry, right- click on anywhere on your screen and click refresh. Try to load you Music now. Good Luck
