The Internets

One thing that I don't think worked very well in GTA IV was the whole Internet/email messages thingy. I mean, having to go to an Internet cafe to check your email... very 1998. Shouldn't Niko be able to do that with his cell phone in a GTA game set in 2008 Liberty City? Or at least he should be able to get text message notifications or something when he has received an email of importance (not the spam emails).

What do you think?

Most of the e-mails that are received are related to the missions completed. Just a little different.

You don't need to read them anyway. If you want to, don't be lazy.

Also, you have a laptop in Playboy X's apartment I believe. You can directly check your e-mail from their. It is located in the kitchen, on top of the table.

I know going to the internet cafe is such a pain, having to take the time to go to a cab and sit in there for like a second until it magically gets me there. /sarcasm

Northwood, near the Modo clothes store.

I think you guys are missing the point here, the point being you shouldn't have to go to a computer in the first place when you have a cell phone. You should be able to access them interwebs all the time (except maybe when there are wanted stars).

Punk-in-Drublic

I think that later on in the game, after Playboy X rewards you with the Whiz wireless, you shoule be able to obtain a better, more up to date one, maybe a parody of the iphone? theres already a parody of Apple, why not make a few puns about sh*tty apps and how over priced it is.

Anyway, the above phone would be ideal for a modern Liberty city resident who has as much money as Niko. You could play music (Independent FM? or favourite tracks that you've 'Zitted', or even just regular radio), internet, mini games that could relate as apps, such as CUB3D, degeneratron etc. , better layout, easier to use etc.

I dont know why im bothering as I never really used the in game phone at all unless I needed to, same with the internet.

In theory Niko's cell phone should also be able to play music but I think Rockstar made some choices to keep the phone interface from getting too complex and to spread content around the game world.

They did parody Apple and the iPhone with an ad for the iFruit Phone, that just doesn't happen to be the phone Niko gets.

but R* were going for realism and all of these sort of extra things would add to that realism, i mean being able to read email's on mobile phones has been around for a while now, but maybe R* saw it as if they want to read emails then the player can go to a computer. Anyway even if there was emails on the phone im sure some people would get confused between emails and texts lol.

Not everybody's phone can do that. bored.gif

I don't have a data plan on my cell phone, so not everyone has it. -_-

yeah, unless you have a (real life) blackberry, palm, or iphone theres pretty much no point

The fact that you don't personally own a cell phone with such features is not a good argument in my opinion. I don't own an expensive sports car, but that doesn't mean such cars shouldn't be included in the game, does it? Same goes for cell phones.

It'd just be one more of those things you can spend money on: you could start out the game with a crappy cell phone that's only good for making calls and then buy better models as the game progresses. I mean, you do already get one cell phone upgrade during the game (the better model you get from Playboy X), so this would just be taking that one step further.

I don't think a bang upto date phone with wireless is inkeeping with Niko's character. He only needs to check email occassionally for "business" purposes so he is'nt gonna want to be carrying something thats saving incriminating documents.

And as he only needs it occassionally he's not going to want to shell out for one extra feature when his current phone is sufficient.

In terms off it being a pain in the ass for the player, theres only about two missions where you have to use internet. Other than that I just looked at the joke emails altogether in one sitting once I'd finish the game.

I don't think evidence is a big concern for Niko. Just consider how he's just allowed to walk away if arrested. That aside, maybe the assault rifle, rocket launcher and the piles of dead bodies ought to be a bigger problem when he gets in front of a judge.

Besides, even with Niko's less high tech cell phone his calls could be traced, his call log could be used as evidence, etc. If he was even the slightest concerned about evidence then he wouldn't use a phone at all in the first place. Considering all the noice Niko's made since arriving in Liberty City there is simply no way he could realistically not have been sent to prison for life.

And as he only needs it occassionally he's not going to want to shell out for one extra feature when his current phone is sufficient.

Remember that this series is called Grand Theft Auto. Why would he have to pay for it? And in the end it's the player who decides what's "sufficient". Niko doesn't need the fastest sports cars, but the player may want him to have them anyways.

Then I suppose you've used the Internet in the game far less than I have. I found going to the Internet cafes a major pain when it came to dating. Some girlfriend would send an email to Niko to set up an initial date for the next day and then I would only learn about it when it's too late. That would never happen if there was an instant email notification on his cell phone.

Lollercoaster

Niko is rich as f*ck, so he could probably afford those expensive dataplans that cost like $5 per Megabyte.

That could even be made into a joke in the game: Niko loses $5 every 10 seconds or so that he's using the phone to browse or check email. smile.gif

i don't even own a cellphone, so if the game was base around someone like me, you'd have to drive to my house to make a call everytime.
