PorridgeIsGood
Hello there. I recently got my paws on a copy of "Grand Theft Auto IV: Liberty City". I was simply ecstatic when I heard of its presence at a nearby store. I threw on a t-shirt and ran to the store, facing the elements, knowing the store would close soon. When I got home, I made myself a mocha and tried to install it. How unfortunate. I can't seem to understand how. Here's what I did. 1) Insert Disc 2) Go through installation 3) Complete Social Club Thingy 4) Complete Windows Live Thingy 5) Join Both Accounts (Go Excessive Capitals!) 6) Try to play the game without internet 7) Get welcomed by a long character art slideshow (Do I always have to be connected to play? If so, I call Bull Excrements!) 8) Try to play it, connected to the interwebz 9) Get told Windows Games for Live needed to patch itself 10) Initiate patch 11) Try to play 12) Get told Windows Games for Live needed to patch itself 13) Rinse Repeat 5 times 14) Alot of screaming, followed by the clubbing of baby seals and choking of small children 15) Asking on forum Any help? I'd be ever so grateful.
CharmingCharlie
So long story cut short "you want to play the game but Games For Windows Live keeps moaning it needs to be updated" ? If that is the case you can either :- Update games for windows live outside of the game, by clicking this link. Download that, then once downloaded, run it and it should fully update your GFWL software and won't moan about it again till the next update. Play GTA 4 single player by making an offline account which is explained here Option A in my view should always be done, I personally don't like updating whilst running GTA 4 and prefer to update my gfwl and GTA 4 whilst the game isn't running. Option B will allow you to play single player for now till you get your gfwl sorted. However do appreciate that any progress you make will be linked to that off line account. If you want to start using your online account you will have to start all over again.
PorridgeIsGood
I won't play online. So, that works. Thanks! EDIT: I still get a long character slideshow. What's going on? Girish
EDIT: I still get a long character slideshow. What's going on? A common long loading times issue. Have you updated your game to the latest patch? If not, do it from here: http://www.rockstargames.com/support/IV/PC/patch/index.html Download and install the patch. Go to Options > Graphics and you'll now notice a 'VSync' option at the bottom. Turn it off.
mkey82
If I had a band, our next album would be called "facing the elements" XD Sorry for the off topic.
