ghost of delete key
Holy. Freaking. WOW. While you sporty kids were all playing GTA, a chap in Staffordshire just uncovered the largest cache of Anglo-Saxon gold EVER FOUND! More than 11 lbs. of gold, and 5 of silver were recovered totaling over 1500 artifacts. <clicky > (from SkyNews) Crazy, huh? Fnorg
I'm sure the government will enjoy the money they make off of this.
ghost of delete key
I'm sure the government will enjoy the money they make off of this. Apparently, the ruling has been in favor of the finder and the landowner, who will split the proceeds. It's been reported that auction of the items has already begun. The Unvirginiser
I got told about this the other day, lucky bastard. The only relic I'd ever find would be an unexploded WW2 bomb, which would obviously pick that time to explode.

Good for him. I expected the government to take half of it and shove it into museums, now I think he should donate some of it to museums.
Seddo
Seen this on the news yesterday, apparently the finder and land owner will now become millionaires after the find. Lucky gits. Oh and the finder bought a £2.50 metal detector and then found all this.
Rebel
I saw this, lucky find indeed. Looks like there might be an increase in metal detector buying, and random field searches.

trip
I read this story yesterday and was shocked it hadn't shown up here on gtaf. Totally amazing historic find. I can't wait until they start publishing the studies of the find. This find will fill in a lot of blanks in history. It will actually change some of the current understandings. Like I said - I can't wait for more details. Gotta love history My crappy games at MyCrappyGames.com Free copy of Save The Puppies and Kittens

Jean Capel
Congrats to my brother across the sea, hopefully both the profiteers will give a bit to charity. I'm glad to hear that the government isn't getting any of that cash, over here they'd probably have the Gestapo come take it from us at gunpoint. gtathebest4ever
Wow, now that's a find. Especially because he doesn't have a job, so the money he gets from selling it to a museum or something will some in handy.

He is just getting paid a reward so to speak. The historic value of this find is too much to just let him do what he wants with it. 1066ant
I'm pretty sure any gold found automaticly belongs to the crown in some way. Most likely the gold it-self will be put in museums and storage, and the land owner and finder given a reward for finding it, although I highly doubt it will be in the millions. Perhaps a few thousand, but gold hundreds of years old isn't really valuable appart from the historical importance.

Mike Tequeli
Perhaps a few thousand, but gold hundreds of years old isn't really valuable appart from the historical importance. I wasn't aware that ancient gold somehow was less valuable then modern gold. If course it would be historically irresponsible to melt down these artifacts. What a c*nt. Trolling or raging with envy? You gotta remember that this guy is on benefits and has been looking for stuff with his metal detector for a while. I think he deserves it.
