Just started University this year and sent Student Finance England all of my details on the 12th of August, still I've heard nothing. My brother got a letter confirming that they've received his details, but I've had nothing. I can't log in to their site on my PC because of a network problem, finally managed to at my Dad's last night and it still says that they're awaiting my information.

 

I've called every day and either been on hold for twenty minutes or just not gotten through at all. I'm at a loss of what to do, since most people get their loans on Monday - Has anybody else had this trouble this year?

My condolences, seems there's quite an issue with the finances this year. A know a few people that haven't received anything yet either. Not fun times especially when you're reliant on your loan to actually live as well as pay for your course. God knows what I would've done if I didn't receive anything. Thankfully I'm assuming the Universities are pretty lenient on those with loan problems?

Well, I'm hoping so - My mate reckons something is being done, I'm gonna' stop by the student union and see what the financial advisor has to say. Do you think that it's worth re-sending all the information and hoping for the best?

Still need to check my bank too, it should've been in last Monday but haven't checked yet. First payment for accommodation is taken out of the account early October, so fingers crossed it's in by then.

 

I submitted all the details in June, I think it was. They asked for them again a week before I was set to move down to Manchester for uni. It's ridiculous trying to get through, I tried loads. They don't even have an email address either.

I submitted my forms and sh*t pretty much last minute and I got my confirmation letter straight away, so it can't be a timing thing. Hmm, sure does suck for you's missing out on your money.

Yeah they've really cocked up this year. I know a few people who applied early and still haven't heard back from them, and they can't get through on the phones to them. I've got one friend who has had to send in three applications, so far they've lost his passport and driving license. I had to send in that confirmation sheet (the one you sign, can't remember what it's called) twice because they lost the first one.

 

I did get a payment schedule letter through eventually though, and seeing as I've enrolled my money should have gone in, I can't be arsed checking though. I know a few of my friends have had their money go in today so I'd assume mine has gone in too.

 

If I were you I'd talk to your Uni, see if you can get them to ring the student finance up, they might have contact numbers that you haven't and they might be able to get through to someone and sort it out for you.

It's a joke this year, things were barely working last year when I enrolled for university and got my loan. They're supposed to be this trustworthy company, you'd expect them to be dealing with something as sensitive as passports, and then they go an lose it. It's a disgrace. Sorry to all those that have had trouble, but thousands more have applied than they expected. All you can really do is keep trying until you hear word of what they're doing about it.

Its happening everywhere this year. Its because of the amount of people that actually applied, not to mention a lot of them applying late. It was on the news a couple weeks ago about the situation. Basically the guy who runs it said all applications will be processed and sorted out, but it will take more time obviously than expected and just to keep on looking online or give them a call to kick them up the arse. I'm pretty certain you'll get it, just later than normal.

Can't you just send off a photocopy of either? I'm pretty sure that's what I did and it's a hell of a lot safer.

 

Well not so much safe (if the copy gets in the wrong hands someone can shaft you hard if they get your bank details too) but atleast you're not risking losing such an important document.

They've f*cked it up big time this year, last year was fine for me. Well to be honest this year has been fine for me. Since I'm out on placement I got mine on the 1st of september which was quite lucky.

 

I think the problems occured because they've been renamed Student Fiance England and have merged systems with Direct.Gov.

 

But there is loads of people who haven't receivied any details yet.

Finally got through to them today. Their site says that they're processing forms from the middle of August, but the guy on the phone says that they're only up to the 2nd of July. He's emailed the relevant people about maybe getting some emergency funding for me.

I'm having trouble Cancelling my f*cking student finance.

 

I applied months ago, was granted my funding, borked an exam by 7 marks, missed my uni, and since August 20th I've been trying to cancel the damn money. I know it won't go through anyway without a uni's confirmation but frankly I don't want money allocated to me, that won't be used, not being available for somone else.

 

I spent days on the phone, I finally spoke to some dozey bumbox and they told me I should have gone to the website all along and gotten a change of circumstance form, printed that off, filled it in and posted it off....WHAT'S WRONG WITH DOING IT ONLINE AND WHY COULDN'T YOU CANCEL THAT sh*t ON THE PHONE??

 

The whole system is c*nted, I'm c*nted, you're c*nted, the country is going to the dogs. f*ck this Uni bullsh*t. I'm buying canned food, reading Ray Meares' books and preparing for a future where survival is the only luxury....I suggest you do the same.
