Man_Who_Laughs
I recently bought a new PC, here are the stats: -intel core2 quad cpu 2.83 GHz -4 gb ram -Nvidia geforce gtx 275 -Windows XP so as you can see it is a pretty decent machine and should be far more than capable of running San Andreas smoothly. I installed the game and everything seemed fine except the player movement jerks, most noticeable in parachute mode and sprinting side to side. It is a really horrible and game breaking glitch, can someone please speak up if there is a fix for this.
Girish
It's not a known glitch or anything and it definitely shouldn't be happening, especially on a powerful system like yours. Is this a purchased copy of the game or a downloaded one? Are you using any no-cd cracks? Do you have any mods installed? Try reinstalling the game and delete the gta_sa.set file from the User Files folder.
Man_Who_Laughs
Yeah it is a purchased copy of the game, however I did add a no-cd crack to save having to switch out discs all the time. I can try a fresh reinstallation along with no old save games including no old saved settings, see if that does anything, as well as not using a no-cd crack. It's just stranged that it worked fine that way on my old system. I'll post an update later after I have reinstalled and tested it out.
hetment
ok and dont use any cracks, use the original disc and tell us
radioman
Also, I noticed you said you have XP, but did not mention any service packs, so does that mean you have the original version of XP-the one before SP1 was released? If so, try updating to the latest SP, which is SP3 for XP and see if that helps. Also, get rid of the no-dvd crack, as it is not necessary since you have a DVD handy to play-DVD cracks are used mostly for Wared versions of the game anyway. Man_Who_Laughs
Yes I have the latest SP (SP 3) installed and yes all my drivers are up to date. Like I stated I used the no-cd/dvd crack so that I wouldn't have to switch out discs everytime I wanted to play, it worked perfectly fine on my old PC so I don't see why it shouldn't work on this one. However I am going to reinstall the game this afternoon, refresh my settings and not use a no cd/dvd crack. I'll report back afterwards.
Man_Who_Laughs
Tried with a fresh reinstall, clean settings/save files, no crack, up to date graphic driver, yet the glitch is still showing. I have tried with all versions of the game patch-wise and yet still no luck. I am all out of Ideas, it wouldn't bother me so much if it was barely noticable but when the character is jerking like this it really is just about unplayable. Like I stated before the game runs really smoothly except for the character model (CJ) itself jerking/lagging constantly. Even whilst in a car the game plays like it should but as soon as I am on foot or parachuting (especially when parachuting ) the character model jerks all over the place. Girish
Try changing CPU affinity. Start the game, minimise it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, in Windows Task manager, go to Processes > right-click on gta_sa.exe > Set Affinity > Uncheck all except CPU 0. Now, go back to the game and see if it has made any difference. If that doesn't help, try changing video drivers. Which driver version are you running currently? Man_Who_Laughs
The driver I am currently using is 191.07 for Nvidia geforce gtx 275, I also just tried what you said and nothing changed, I also tried changing priority to high and that did nothing. Appeciate the help though.
Prathmesh
I kinda had same issue not very long back lolz. Turn off frame limiter. /B] You can also try to hack a bit and change framelimiter's value to 40-45FPS or something. And then keep it on <= MODS EDIT THIS if does not fit within the rules. I always have the Frame limiter option off when I've played GTA SA, however since I have installed it on this PC I have been encountering this issue I have been reporting. If I turn the Frame limiter on the game runs so poorly that it is barely even playable, the FPS is so bad. However if I have the frame limiter off then the game runs really smooth except for the issue I have been reporting.
Girish
This could be a driver issue. Have you tried some of the older driver versions? Try them one by one and see if they make a difference. If that doesn't help, try the frame limiter patch. You can find them in this topic along with the description as to what they do.
Man_Who_Laughs
I'll go ahead and try the frame limiter patch to see if that helps, thanks for the link.
Man_Who_Laughs
Well I first tried the Frame limiter patch and that didn't work for some strange reason, in the patcher msg box it said this: [OFFSET PATCH] loading file: C:\Games\GTA SA\GTA San Andreas\gta_sa.exe Wrong filesize or already patched! nothing patched! ...done! *PATCHING DONE* It should've worked, it is the original game (no crack), however i noticed the game is the 2.0 version which automatically gets installed with the version I purchased a good while back now, could that have something to do with it? However I have also tried with version 1.01 and the frame limiter patch & adjuster failed again. I also tried the Frame limit adjuster which also did not work even though it gave the pop up message that it did work, I used the fraps fps scanner and it still remained at 25 fps. I took the frame limit option off and my fps shot up to around 110 fps, however then I get that horrible glitch I have been reporting about. I really wish I knew why I can't get these frame limit adjusters to work, If I could only manage to raise the fps from 25 to 40 or 50 I think it should work glitch free as well as being smooth enough to play. Zera
110fps means you didn't turn V-Sync on, like Rockstar recommends you to do. You might want to give it a try. The game should lock at 60fps and remain stable (if you're running at 60hz refresh rate, that is.) Also, your game isn't unplayable at 25fps. You just got used to higher framerates, so you need get used to 25fps again.
Man_Who_Laughs
Well perhaps a vsync option in-game would've been nice, especially if it was recommended by Rockstar, instead of having to force it on via graphic card options. And yeas to me 25 fps makes the game very uncomfortable and (in my opinion) unplayable. Anyways, I'll try forcing the vsync to on and see if that helps, if it does then I'll just have to live with toggling that on whenever I want to play San Andreas. Zera
You don't need to toggle it on manually, just create a profile in the Nvidia Control Panel for gta_sa.exe and enable V-Sync there.
