JokerBoddy
THis is the error: It says " Please insert an original DVD, not a backup on and bla bla bla ". I'm sending a flaming e-mail to the suckRom, anyone knows how to fix it? It just started today. My Crysis DVD did the same and never worked again. The DVD is not intact, but it is certaintly far from being scratched... I have the original copy of the DVD. Thanks! JokerBoddy
Is an actual bought copy of the game, or is it one that a friend burnt for you? Sorry, i forgot to tell, it is the original DVD. And btw, sometimes I manage to play it, but most of the time it won't let me.
viometrix
this is exactly why rockstar needs to release an update for no dvd. too many people have this issue just from normal use of the game and the disc spinning up and down. it is not fair for people t pay for a game they cant play, unless there is fine print that you only have the license to use the game as long as the disc lasts. but youd figure with the gfwl login, rockstar social club, serial key etc that there was enough security on this game to not need the damn dvd in the drive wearing down your dvd drive. mkey82
Do you have some disk imaging software installed?
nightwalker83
Take a look to see if there is a solution on the Take2 Support Forum. Edited September 25, 2009 by nightwalker83
Girish
Do you have some disk imaging software installed? This.^ The issue stated by the OP generally occurs when you have some disc imaging software like Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, Power ISO, etc. running in the background or even if it's just installed on your system. I suggest uninstalling all such applications.
OutOfTimer
F*ck DRM that legal customers are punished with by greedy corporations who apparently don't like the fact that I pay my hard earned money for their game. What the f*ck is this for? If anyone wants to pirate a game, they download it off torrents. Nobody cares about some stupid SecuROM. It's only legit customers like you and I that get screwed. The purpose of these "protection" schemes is to delay the release of a working crack for as long as possible. In terms of video game sales, this period is about one week, as a large chunk of sales happens in this time window (above 80%). Since most sales happen then you (they) want to keep the pirated/original copies ratio as low as possible. The logic is: if you want to play the game and don't want to wait for some cracks, you have to buy it. This is why the first week is of critical importance. Securom helps with this and so they use it, f*cking up some buyer rights along the way.

mkey82
there were working cracked torrents about 1 1/2 weeks before official release. Torrents yes, cracks came later on. Plus all the shenanigans with the updates and non working loaders, I think securom served it's purpose. There is always a copy leaking from somewhere, the problem is with physical mediums and that has nothing to do with securom.
OutOfTimer
A friend of mine loves playing games (XBox 360 mostly). He doesn't like to buy them, though. He downloads so many games and films off torrents that he can barely pay his bills for electricity (comp running 24/7). He also mentioned that the noise is annoying at night. Basically, he has a new game every 2 days and enjoys multiplayer, too. He says the disc has to be burnt correctly to fool Micro$oft. The guy knows I always buy legit games (for various reasons ranging from package to the smell of manufactured DVDs LOL) but never asked me to copy one for him. When I asked why, he said - "LOL dude, are you stupid? I have every game before you even decide what to buy next." I think to myself, are the corporate execs to blind to see? Are they too rich flying in their corporate planes to Washington to see their kids downloading torrents all day? It amazes me that I have to suffer because they want to prevent me from copying my games and giving them to that friend of mine. Guess what? He doesn't give a s*hit about me and my games. Neither does he care about you and your corporate planes. So why the f*ck do you spit in my face with your DRM? mkey82
I already hear your tall of your friend and indeed it's a funny one And you're absolutely right, hopefully we'll see the decline of DRM after enough people bitch about it. Luckily, some (I would even dare say many) games get published without any protection at all; some have only the multiplayer aspect protected; some require cd key to update and so on. The problem is with some major assholes, like MS and EA. They would rather see their corporations fall then to abandon the user rights infringement software. I downloaded the SecuROM™ Diagnostics Tool & Analysis file from https://support.securom.com/ and updated the file that controls GTA IV. I seems to have worked that way. All is well but it certainly sucks to have to deal with such problems because of a DRM.... Thanks for the feedback! Peace!
