Eversoris1990
I just got GTA IV today for a extremely early Christmas gift, but when I fired it up, it's really lagging. Any help on boosting performance? Ryan
A new video card would probably help you out quite a bit. If you can spare the cash, try to go for a GTS 250, or a GTX 260. A gig or two more of RAM wouldn't be a bad investment either. Sounds like a stupid thing to say, but make sure to check your settings. If for some reason everything is turned up to "High", there's half your problem already. Edited September 25, 2009 by Unlimited
viometrix
you most definently need a more up to date video card. the video card you have now is 5 generations old.... may i recommend anything in the nvidia 200 series or ati 4000 series (either with 1 gb of ram onbaord)....and maybe going up to 4 gb of ram in your system

hn333
How sure are you about the Radeon 4670 ? I would love to get a card for under 100 dollars, I'm not working right now and I really need to play this game to let off some steam.
megaknight
wait till next month, when the new ati hd 5800 series is released. support for dx11, plus the 5850 is only 279$ and supposidly runs better than the gtx
syrdax
According to HP website, you have a Pentium E2180 © 2.0 GHz, that's not much help either. You can overclock it for better results. I read that it can go up to 3.4Ghz. Also, if you are on short budget, you can try the nVidia 9800GT which is under 90 euros at least here in Spain and not only will "work" (at least much much better than now) with GTA 4 but will also work with most games. By the way, 200 series (don't know about Ati's) are very big cards that I'm sure won't fix in that case, and also will need a better PSU. So for under 100 bucks, I think that you should aim for the 9800, I'll check your PSU because I think that you would need to change that too. Edit: well there's nothing about the PSU on HP's website, so before buying the video card, you need to check if your PSU has a little 6 pin connector or has 2 extra 4 pin connectors (something like this) Edited September 25, 2009 by syrdax

A 9600GT and a Q8 series Quad-Core CPU(pretty cheap now) will run it nicely like I do. This hardware is conservative compared to some of the monster hardware some people have. PecanFrost
I've played the game with the ATi Radeon HD4650, I didn't push the settings to their max but set most to medium and a few to high. The card doesn't need a 6 pin connection with the power supply as the PCI-X connector supplies enough power, it's also a short card so should fit in a standard case without issue. Check the dimentions of the inside of your case first to know the limitations, and then check what cards will fit in, I'm sure if you ask nicely people on here with check their cards for you. RYO_91
first of all you have an HP which sucks and they are not good for processor overclocking so thats not an option, you can try downloading rivatuner and overclock that video card but you should buy new hardware not only for this game but for all the coming ones

Back in the day I could see the point of overclocking, but now a days there's just no reason to do it.
OutOfTimer
HP Pavilion a6433-w, Windows 7 Ultimate, Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X1300 Pro, RAM: 3GB @2Ghz, Intel Pentium Duo Core Inside A gig or two more of RAM wouldn't be a bad investment either. WTF? Dude, please enlighten me or STFU if you have nothing to say. It seems to me you have no idea about computer science and it is really too much for me to handle when I look at your community contribution award. 1) The guy did NOT say he has a 64-bit OS. For your information, 32-bit OS can only see up to roughly 3.5 GB RAM. 2) Even if he does have a 64-bit version of 7, it's a huge problem in itself as GTA IV has a 32-bit executable and runs in emulation on any 64-bit OS. That takes away FPS. 3) Windows apps can only adress up to 2 GB RAM by default. If you want more, you have to specifically enable it, which the kid shouldn't try 'cause he may easily f*ck something up and GTA IV won't use it anyway as there's no additional information to be stored. UPDATE: I've corrected my mistake regarding memory adresses. Thanks to mkey82 for pointing that out (see post below). That takes away FPS. This is incorrect. At least in my case and GTAIV. I have tried to play this game on 32bit XP, Vista and 7 and 64bit 7. The latter runs the game the best, even though there is practically no FPS difference, only the least stuttering. Also, only the 64bit 7 allowed me to successfully force high res textures. 3) Windows apps can only adress up to 1.5 GB RAM by default. 32 bit OS versions have a 2GB limit and can be forced up to 3.
