Hell No..
No, this is not a link to just show you what they are, I am asking you what you think are some of the best ones that we live by daily but does not need technology to function? I mean, I was out the back doing my washing just now, and I thought..."Washing Line", a bit of rope from one end of the garden to the other, and I'm using natural heat to dry my clothes, how cool is that? And no, I'm not a green freek who cares about the planet Another one could be the likes of the Dinner Table? Just stands there, forever and a day, but serves it's purpose well by being a bit of Wood. I'm sure there are many, but when you think of some things, it's pretty cool, because we all know, the world is moving forward with Technology and some things, will just never need it. ----- There's my thought for the day... makeshyft
Do you mean modern technology? Because the printing press was a huge innovation. Other than that... basic tools, really. Cutting and hammering implements.

Waddy
Yeah I guess you could say modern. Yeah the Wheel is good, something similar could be a Water Mill? Depends, water wheel would use technology? A wheel is just round and moves.
Hell No..
Well, I don't know. During the 1800's, would it really be called Technology? Directing Water into the Mill to turn it? Waddy
They were used to create power which is a technology? Must be. Anyway, its your topic. Lets go with Water Wheels then

XAF226
All inventions use technology one way or another. Technology is just when science is applied to create something.
Rebel
The toothbrush. Oh also, I'm going to be a chick on this one and say tampons, pads and all that jazz for the time of the month. Hell No..
All inventions use technology one way or another. Agreed. Many years ago, the likes of Cavemen would make Axe's from the likes of sticks and slate, but now, they are manufactured. But we can still go into the fact of, "made by, but not powered by" I'm on Twitch! Are you? Come say Hi. https://www.twitch.tv/priceyryan
Tsar_Smirnoff
How about gunpowder, steel, and plastic; all of those were manmade inventions that are used everyday in some corner of the world.
ghost of delete key
All inventions use technology one way or another. Agreed. Many years ago, the likes of Cavemen would make Axe's from the likes of sticks and slate, but now, they are manufactured. But we can still go into the fact of, "made by, but not powered by" Asbamolutely. All invention is technology. A twig on a tree is not technology, but if you take it and use the sticky bark-free end of it to pull ants out of their nest for a tasty snack, that's technology. A rock is not technology, but as soon as you pick it up and use it to crack open a coconut or an enemy's head, that's technology. Chip a few flakes from it to give it a sharp cutting edge, that's advanced technology. Usage is the contributing factor in the difference. The usage of a naturally occurring phenomenon, be it matter or energy, causes the phenomenon to transcend it's intrinsic nature, hence a twig or a rock is now a tool. So really, I think what you mean by technology is more about synthesis as a level of fabrication... that is to say, silicon is a naturally occurring semiconducting crystal, but a transistor is a highly synthesized fabrication of silicon. Basically, technology is a continuum based in natural phenomena, and ending as it were, somewhere in invention. Just my 2 cents, your dictionary may say otherwise. But yeah, the water wheel rawks. So do aqueducts. Water + Gravity = Roman Craziness. I think my favorite low-tech has got to be the siege engine. Pummel the f*ckers with stored energy modulated with gravity. Stones, pots of boiling oil... it's all good. That's a real bad day if you're on the wrong end of that mess. Exkabewbikadid
Even 'modern technology' is too ambiguous a term to denote what does or doesn't fit this criteria. But I suppose any sort of craftsmanship that involves turning natural resources into tools or other objects of use without the aide of anything but your hands and tools readily found in nature would fit. Perhaps one of the most important inventions occured when prehistoric man discovered he could use weapons other than his hands to fight/hunt (think Kubricks's 2001). At some point people noticed that certain objects float in water and invented rafts. It's hard to think of modern day inventions that don't use technology when basic physics have surely been manipulated in nearly every way by now. The-King
I'd have to say the knife, or rather edged cutting tools. Not only do they serve their basic purpose of deconstruction and shaping but they can also serve other numerous creative purposes as well. I've used knives to tighten screws, sharpen pencils and create art, they're such a versatile yet simple tool it's simply astonishing how something so basic can be so applicable to even today's purposes. And on that note, writing tools are such an amazing invention, they've allowed us to record history, create it, and express ourselves in ways spoken words never could. Which also brings me into the invention of language, which is probably the single greatest invention in the history of man and it's astonishing qualities don't even need to be explained. |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|
Warplay3r
Fireworks, a good source of fun & entertainment. Not to mention, this also falls under the catagory of 'gunpowder.' The grill. A great invention to use for cooking outdoors. Last of all, a knife. A survival tool, defense weapon, and overall helpful for any situation. The knife must be one of the most useful inventions that was made without tech.
