I have the opposite problem. I hate small phones. If there was a 7" or 8" phone I'd f*cking buy it. The bigger the screen the better. Phones are not just phones anymore.

The S8+ looks great even though I'm not a fan of Samsung phones. I'm considering this phone until OnePlus comes out with a new phone.

I can see both points, but for me a phone is to call and text. And take selfies  For me that's about it!

And well, I'm the man in the middle - I use my device to read articles and visit websites, watch videos, use emulators and take notes at College, so I need a decently sized device. However, I also want it to be small enough to be comfortable in my hands and to be able to carry it in my pockets, and so 5" is the perfect for me (maybe larger if I had a device like the Samsung S8 or the Xiaomi Mi5 with smaller bezels).

I want it to be very usable for those tasks besides basic texting, calling and social media; but it's still meant to be a portable device, and if I needed a larger one it would make more sense to either buy a tablet or use my PC.

I am very happy with my pixel xl,I always prefer a bigger screen.i basically do everything on my phone (I don't use the web on my PC it's just for games lol) it's just more convenient for me,I do miss my Nexus 6 screen size but not that noticable on my pixel but. I've been playing daydream off and on I just hope for better games,it works well just falls short on gameplay wise.

Also on Android, Galaxy on fire 3 is up for pre-registering I loved their last game so I am looking forward for this one

You type faster with two hands so one-handed typing isn't that important in my opinion, unless you're texting and driving, in which case you are the problem. Also, who texts even? I mean I guess if I had a girlfriend or something but otherwise I barely text. I don't use my phone as a phone lol. I hate using phones the way they were originally intended. I use it for Internet browsing and killing time.

Yeah, I text with both hands as well, but what I meant with handling it is to easily reach the whole screen with just my thumb (interacting with webpages and such). I've also got the terrible habit of using my smartphone during classes, where using both hands wouldn't be very productive, so that's an important thing.

About texting, I personally text all the time, with my girlfriend, friends, colleagues and pretty much everyone I need to. I don't like voice chatting, both because I feel more confortable writing (yes, I am aware I might be anti-social) ad also because while writing I can easily do other things in the same time, I get completely distracted when talking - but well, that's all subjective, and I guess that's why smartphones are available in so many different sizes.

Is the 3000 mah battery going to be enough though for a phone of such size? I've been hearing a lot about how the new 10nm processor is going to be more power efficient but that's something that we hear with the release of every new processor. I really think they should have put in a larger battery.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of large phones let alone the battery. It should have been atleast 3600mah or somewhat close to 4000. Not that I've tiny hands but phones having displays larger than 5.2 inches are uncomfortable to use with one hand. Also, phones with glass panels are way too slippery to use without any cases. I dislike using cases. I prefer rugged phones like that of Motorola. I wish Samsung would introduce rugged version of all their devices. Every S Model has those "Active" variants with rugged body in U.S. And they're all At&t exclusive at the same time. Edited by Arrow

I'm with Arrow on this, phone's should be both single and dual hand enabled. Who really wants to free up both hands even to place a call? Edited by Natasha

It really is getting ridiculous. I'm pretty sure everyone realizes that screen sizes are out of control. The J7 I've picked up as my temporary "can't decide what I want" phone (because J7 was free) has the "one-hand" option which basically shrinks the entire screen or just input area to the size of a saner model, which seems like a criminal waste of the OLED real estate. But making smaller screens is not terribly marketable either, seeing how everyone wants a large screen for their porn movies.

I suppose, until we figure out how to make screens virtual, the onus is on developers to make interfaces more accessible with one hand despite screen size. But absolutely everyone is failing at that, including the company I work for. Hm. Maybe that's something I should bring up with our UI team.

Ok, well I've just ordered a Google Pixel (not the XL, I'm not made of cash). At £470 it was a reasonable price deal for the device and I hope it's money well spent....

Wise choice. The Pixel is a decent performer and has a great camera.

Agreed, I've had the device for a few days and I really like the Google Assistant and the overall performance.

On the downside I miss the notification alerts on the screen icons. I don't like the fact that if you miss the notification sound (call, email, SMS etc) there is nothing on screen to show that you have (x number) missed calls or new messages.

The Pixel is a really solid device. When GSMArena released their review with photo samples, I was thoroughly impressed by the camera quality. If I had some extra cash laying around, I would definitely pick up a Pixel XL.

Speaking of Pixel XL, I find that really uncomfortable to hold. You got to painfully stretch your hand to reach the fingerprint scanner even. Also, Pixel 2 will be even more costly than the Pixel. Why can't there be budget versions of the device like Nexus?

Pixel is extremely durable it seems for a normal phone. Definitely nowhere near as bad as previous Google phones:

I'm not sure if most consumers deliberately bend, scratch, or burn their devices on a regular basis.. you didn't even post the Pixel video to compare, either

It seems to scratch just as easily, if not worse than the 6P. Sure, it doesn't bend as badly as it*, and taking a lighter to the screen doesn't hurt it either, but these tests are a little on the extreme side..

* = mostly because it's smaller and doesn't have a large weak point in the middle of the device. Notice how he doesn't have a video on the XL variant?

----------

I recently installed the Xposed Framework through the "systemless" method and am loving every bit of it. I missed a lot of my favorite modules from when I had my GS5 and it's nice to have them back finally on my Note. Thought I would take advantage of some apps like Amplify and Greenify, which I'm both using to gain a nice bit of battery life.

These durability tests are more of an extreme, so you know just how far you could go without causing serious damage to it. Some of the tests might be a little too much, but the burning one, for example, could give you an idea if you happen to forget your device outside on an hot sunny day if it could cause some damage because of the sunlight (one much longer exposure times, that is).

I use to check some of JerryRigEverything's vids, he still makes them educational and somehow entertaining, without hitting the ridiculous level of some unfortunately popular YouTubers.

I think he explained in one of those videos why the 6P breaks so easily: it's built poorly.

Interestingly enough (for those making fun of OP phones for their build quality here in the past), the OP3 does recover from the burn test to the screen unlike other AMOLED phones.

6P is built by Huawei Honor. They're known for the Honor/Huawei P series devices which in my opinion don't have the best build quality as compared to Moto or OnePlus. Here's the drop test for Pixel.

I would say a 5 foot drop test is a bit unfair really. Typically it's gonna fall from a pocket I would say, which in my case is about 10 inches cause I'm a short ass. Just my thoughts.

Given the laundry list of hardware issues they seem to be exhibiting, I'm not so sure. Besides, "bend tests" are a faintly idiotic measure of durability. Literally no-one bends their phone except morons. The points of failure are almost universally several orders of magnitude above what a phone is subject to in normal usage.

It's like driving a car into a concrete bollard at 30mph and then trying to work out which is most "durable" from how much of a mess it makes of the bumper. Frankly silly.

Is it though? I've seen people literally putting their phones in their back pocket and sitting down. Phone companies try to idiot-proof their products as best as possible (also #bendgate). I would also say that if a phone doesn't snap in half it is probably more durable than one that does. I mean it's somewhat useful to know that.

You're sort of right in a way though. A drop test is more useful because most people break their phones by doing that. Not sure why JerryRig doesn't do those.

Ha, to be fair, I remember hearing the iPhone 6 (might be the wrong model) was bending in people's front pockets, probably mostly due to wearing tighter pants.. but who the hell puts a phone in their rear pocket? I've never seen that before.

A larger phone is always going to be more prone to bending, but it's a total non-issue and was with the iPhone too. The number of people who gave experienced bend related failures in general use is so infinitesimally small as to be entirely insignificant, especially compared to things like common component failures which are a much bigger risk to 99% of users. Microphone failures and camera issues being noteworthy though not exactly common with the Pixels.

I use to do that because as someone who only wears skinny jeans, some of them happen to have way too small front pockets for the phone to fit in. Ofc I don't sit on it, but regardless if it's either on my back or front pockets, there's always some pressure over it - and it's normal for people to carry them on the pants pockets, and it's even more normal for it not to break.

I really appreciate plastic made phones for that reason. It's a more durable material against bending, and why bothering about a "premium finish" if I keep it on a silicon case all the time.

Cases and screen protectors are gay. I stopped using them a long time ago. If you take good care of your phone it will last you longer than intended.

Most iPhone users damage their phones in the products of protecting them with hard cases and covers. One my friends put his 5s in a tight MotoMo case, resulting in the device not being able to properly dissipate heat. His phone ended up being dead. I try my best to keep my phone in decent condition without any rough use. A backcover is the only occasional accessory I use.

I'd rather stick to my S7,is blazing fast(I have the exynos 8890 variant),the 4gb ram are more than enough(s8 have 4gb ram too),it can handle every game from google play, the battery life is good(it lasts me 2 days with some gaming, more in normal use like facebook.youtube,etc.) also keep it mind it has fast charging,30 minutes and battery is 50% so 1 hr is enough for full battery, very good cameras on both sides, water and shock resistant so it doesn't break so easily,Vulkan support with android 7.0,perfect signal and I personally like this design more than edge,I had an s6 edge but it didn't like it,mainly because the curved edges were a pain in the ass when I tried to play a game or watch a movie.

But I'm incredibly clumsy (in fact I'm amazed I can't recall any drop on my current phone ever since I have it), and when it eventually happens, I'll be glad my device ended up with little to no damage for a 10euro investment.

The irony in my case is that I dropped mine face down from standing height and it didn't even scratch (at least not noticeably) but then it fell out of my pocket while sitting on a chair and the layers of the bottom part of the screen started to peel off. It still works fine though. I trust Gorilla Glass to not scratch in most circumstances. Having a screen protector feels like having a condom on all the time.

Cases aren't necessarily bad but they typically break easily and I prefer the feel of the phone without one.

Most people who use a S7 prefer to use it without any cases. It feels better in hand with the glass back.
