I think the Zenfone 2 is nice and all, but it doesn't support a lot of T-Mobile's major cell bands, I don't think.

According to the reviews it's close but lacking.

Close but lacking? The weaker one, maybe but the one with the z3580 which cost about as much as the OPO pretty much wipes the floor with it.

In the GPU department the ZF2 is about the same but the ZF2 pulls far ahead (better than the snapdragon 805) when it comes to the CPU while having fewer cores which means better per core performance and thus better app performance as most apps don't use all those cores that qualcomm slaps in their chips.

True, the higher end version is better.

I like vanilla Android or pretty close to it, unfortunately the Zenfone 2 can't do that for me.

Heard a lot about battery lasting way less then other phones, which is weird as hell, considering it's battery is quite big. To be honest, it's a problem thats with all the Zenphone series phones - shows a quick search.

Edit: P.S: It seems that it's a skin problem which seems to have a ram leak or something like that. And since it has an Intel proccesor, you can't flash custom roms, so you're quite stuck.

No ROM flashing? Customization and tweaking are some of the best aspects to Android.

@gizmo No, because Intel proccesors are closed source or something, and qualcomm and others aren't. Atleast whatever, I'm not sure but smth close. It's simple tehre are no roms for that thing. Even searching "zenfone 2 xda" just shows default roms.

Its more to do with the reasonable unpopularity of the device rather than the CPU. ROMs exist, but people just aren't bothered to make improved ones.

Tbh I've never been bothered about switching ROMs up. It's a trade off I'd be willing to make for better performance in real scenarios (compared to qualcomms flagship 810 anyway), though I can see why it might turn people off, especially if the ROM it's shipped with has a noticeable impact on battery life, I mean, battery life isn't a problem for me, I carry around a huge ass 25600mAh battery with me most of the time.

Seriously though, qualcomm needs to make real chips that'll work in real life scenarios rather than chips with loads of cores that just wont get used very often or at all. More powerful cores > more cores, especially when very few, if any, pieces of software can actually use those extra cores. They get it right with stuff like the 805, quad core, decent per core performance, but then the blow it with some 8 core chip with lousy per core performance.

I have an available JUMP upgrade next month (August) and I was just wondering if I should take advantage of it or not. The G4 looks like, and it has awesome specs for the price. The only thing I don't like baout it is that it's not water proof or anything. Removable battery, expandable storage and the nice display is a huge plus. If I got the G4, I'd be returning to my roots from when I had the G2.

Or, should I just wait it out? I know new phones are gonna come out pretty soon.. and I could possibly just wait on the G5 (or whatever they end up calling it). Samsung has nice devices, but they always end up being ridiculously expensive.

Wait for the OnePlus Two to come out and see how the user experience is after at least 30 days, probably 60 days to get a real feel for the device.

Take it from there.

I'll check it out, but if it has that invite system, I think I'll pass.. There's a rumor of some new Nexus out soon, and then of course Samsung will probably debut the Note 5 before the end of the year. Then the next G phone comes from LG. Those are really the only phones I could see myself being interested in.

Although, Snapdragon 810.. 4GB RAM.. maybe the OP2 will be that one super phone everyone has been looking for.

You say super phone. I say hunk of junk. 8 cores, most of which wont be used in anything other than benchmarks, overheating problems, poor per core performance...

Qualcomm needs to get their sh*t together or die off.

I remember reading something about a second revision to fix the overheating. Could be wrong.

How do the Snapdragon chips compare to the Exynos?

Second revision or not it really shouldn't have happened in the first place. There could be four more revisions and I'd still recommend not getting a phone with an 810. Intel and Apple get it right, less cores, higher per core performance. Imo the sweet spot would be a quad core like the Atom Z3580 or the 805, the 808 is where I'd look for all out performance since the 810 is a hit or miss chip. Qualcomm should really focus on improving the performance per core rather than just adding more cores imo.

Depends on the chip. The one in the S6 outperforms the 810 when it comes to the CPU but the GPU is a bit meh with the Exynos chips.

The 810 on the OP2 is going to be underclocked as well. In an ideal setup, that should prevent overheating. But you won't know for sure unless the actual reviews are out.

Yup, from what I've read even the SoC on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is a dual core, and that's despite numerous other manufacturers sprinkling their chips up with more cores. It kinda' reminds me of that promo video Qualcomm did to piss off Mediatek at one time.

So this happened -http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-phone/development/rom-cm-11-20150706-unofficial-t3151443

Pretty cool, if you ask me. I thought the Fire Phone was sold at a cheaper price, though? Why was it raised again? lol

If any of you guys are looking for a good cheap phone that supports JB (via NamelessROM) that has a good ass DAC (FLAC anyone?) and is a generally good phone, get a used S3.

Seriously the price/performance is incredible. Unless of course you go with a Chinese brand like Oppo, those things are really good too.

I had the S3 before I got an LG G2, and f*cking hell, the battery was so bad, I could literally see it go down by minutes. Best SoT I could get was like 2h 30 mins.

However, the ROM support was huge, like you said.

I'd say just get G2 again? It's pretty much the same performance, and sometimes even faster than G4. Some dude compared it to S6 edge, and even then it wasn't far behind, considering it's age it's freaking amazing.

P.S: People report on getting 7 hours of SoT with Kitkat on LG G2, how is that even possible.

Haha I know man. It's pretty bad when it's stock, but I've undervolted (and overclocked ;)) the CPU and GPU and now my battery lasts for around a day now, this is with Viper4Android on the super audio quality with music playing (on the days I commute).

I love LGs. I'd love to get the new G4. Hell the G3 supports 24bit audio playback! Not sure about the G4 but it still looks sexy as hell.

I would love to head back to the G2, but I honestly think I'm gonna wait it out.. I hear the Note 5 is gonna be announced maybe next month, but I'll probably upgrade in March or April.

When I had the G2, the battery life was just insane. Even just thinking about that makes me miss having it a lot. I don't know if Lollipop on the G2 improves or just makes things worse on it, though. I would love to see the G5 when it's announced. Hopefully it's just a perfect phone for someone like me.

Also, the HDR is so god damn OP on the OnePlus 2..

I swear lollipop made my Note 4 unbearable. Not only it's buggy but freezes unexpectedly and closes the app. On top of that it's getting low scores on atutu compared from before. It's around 27k and used to get a score around 47-51k. Tried everything to fix it including a factory reset which only solved the battery life. I think this will be my last samsung smartphone.

Edit: disregard the benchmark part. Power saving mode was on -_-

I finally gave in.

I've officially rolled my Note 4 back to the KitKat suite.

the Lolipop update is the worst thing I've ever had to put up with in terms of a cell phone OS. f/cking garbage that broke my widgets and other apps without adding ANYTHING useful to the phones functionality. so f/cking fed up with that horse sh/t.

I was trying to do that last night but the essentials were pc and not mac os (don't judge me). Lollipop on the Note 4 is God awful to the point I had to do a factory reset which only made the battery life more bearable.

Anyone know how to always have the soft keys show while using apps?

Mainly because my recent apps button is my screenshot button too.

Apparently Lollipop is just a gigantic mess. Complaints everywhere. Yeah, I'm better off with KK for now, I'll wait for a while after M is released to see if it's the same.

I have no issue with L and never have. Most people with problems are running sh*tty bloatware filled vendor specific forks of it.

Indeed. Even though I'm running a custom ROM out of Lollipop, it runs nice on the Moto X. I can even squeeze a little more battery than usual out of it.

My point exactly. It's no coincidence that the people who don't experience issues with L are those running stock Android (Google Nexus), near-stock Android (Motorola, LG) or custom ROMs. And those with a never-ending myriad of issues? Disproportionately Samsung but also HTC and the Chinese OEMs.
