Lollipop just rolled out for the Note 4 on tmobile and so far no issues. My question is why can't Samsung put UX TouchWiz (s6 and s6 edge) on the s4, s5, Note 3 and 4?

"LG focused on three main areas in its presentation – design, display and camera. The genuine leather back which was the headline feature in numerous leaks is indeed the key styling element. LG is proud to have employed vegetable tanning, which is typical of the luxury leather industry and only 10% of leather goods are processed this way. Not all G4s will ship with a leather back though, and the removable plastic cover will come with a hammered pattern in either ceramic white or metallic gray. Each one will be curved though, albeit only slightly, with a 3000mm radius. The company claims that the gentle curve results in better handling and a 20% increase in rigidity." - GSMArena

If you're going to copy and paste from GSM arena at least link them.

Anyways, I'll be eligible for an upgrade on May 12th and I'm contemplating on whether or not I should get the LG G3 or the Samsung Galaxy S5. I'm too poor to afford an S6 and a G4. Although I am honestly leaning more towards the G3 because one, I've had the S3 for way too long (has been strong for years since I have gotten it) and my experience with a Galaxy smartphone for a long time has instilled in me a mindset that all Galaxy smartphones have terrible battery, and for the life of me I cannot use data on my S3 anymore without losing 10% battery in 10 minutes. It is extremely horrendous. Anyone want to chime in on the S5's battery life? I don't know so much about the G3 either. Nick I feel like you should know something about it because I do recall you having stated you are a G3/G2 owner(?).

Thanks, but I honestly forgot about it. I wasn't taking any credit for it, anyway.

Edit: As for your other comments, I was a G2 owner (still a great phone these days). Currently running with a GS5.. Battery life is good on the S5 as long as you don't push it with tons of apps open at the same time. You wont lose 10% in a short amount of time, like you do now. If you choose the S5, I wouldn't recommend keeping it stock, though. Rooting allows you to do so much more, especially with the mobile community we have today. G3 owners complained of shortened battery life due to the screen resolution, I believe. Not entirely sure what the deal is with that today, since I haven't followed up on the subject.

I'm sure the Nexus 5 could be another good alternative for you, if you like stock Android.. same goes for the Moto X. I'm not sure what your budget is exactly but those are great phones for the price.

I never really looked into rooting before, I'm that type of person that wants to keep their warranty, in case my phone f*cks up obviously. Not that I'm careless while handling my phone, but I'm cautious with any device after I accidentally messed up my laptop screen a few years back haha. For now I just use "battery saving apps" (clean master does a great job, can't really say so much about battery doctor though) but even then, it's impossible to use it while the data is on. It's so bad, I don't even like imagining it.

I don't like the cameras on the nexus and the Moto X. I actually care about that, so a good camera is a must.

That G4 looks bloody gorgeous! Miles better than the G3 and using the adreno GPU is the best decision in terms of hardware. Just hope the software is fresh and better than the ugly sh*t that was on the G3. The resolution upgrade really is unneccessary and naive move. Battery capacity is great.

I also have an S3 btw, got it last year and it's running strong but I've already have some minor issues. For some reason, either it's the battery or CPU, whichever it is keeps overheating once in a while especially when I'm playing games. And one time the phone automatically switched off but what was weird was that it was stuck in a restart loop, so the logo would come on and off forever, until I held the power button to fix it. I guess S3 is outdated nowadays. Might have to upgrade in a few months but to me the only alternative is the iPhone 5/5s, Z2/3, G2 or something else. I would prefer an android phone with a very clean software experience, fast and fluid, while at the same time it's not a ridiculously expensive phone, has a great camera and good battery life. G2 comes to mind but I don't know if it's worth getting it or not since it's getting old? Otherwise my only choices are the 5 and 5s.

Best in what way? Like 99% of phones with Qualcomm SOCs are over priced. Asus got it right with Intel SOCs, much better performance for the money.

I was very surprised to hear Alcatel decided to make something other than a very low end budget smart phone... The Alcatel Idol 3 is an alright phone for $249.99 USD. It doesn't even release until May 21st.. but it's already available for pre order. 5.5 inch IPS 1080p display, 2GB RAM, Snapdragon 615... it's not a terrible phone, but they're probably going to have trouble with sales considering you could get a 16GB OnePlus One for $50 more.

My GS5 will be paid off in Summer 2016, I believe.. I wish time would go by faster :( I miss my unique looking and stylish LG G2. Side buttons are sooooo three years ago

YA BOY DIRT

Has anyone figured out the reason behind the Nexus 6's (and I'm assuming most other Lollipop devices by extension) ascending ringtone issue? Where the ringtone starts muted for 2 secs then goes into full volume? Some say it can be fixed by rooting/installing the latest CM but I ain't widdit.

I heard that it's some feature in the phone that can't be disabled. There is an app that can disable it, but it doesn't work on the Nexus. I haven't seen anything related to the issue been solved by rooting the phone.

Yeah, I had the Disable Increasing Ring app on my Galaxy S3 but it's unsupported for Nexus devices for some reason. It's really a pain in the ass.

So, it's time for me to upgrade from my Nexus 4. However, I, for the life of me, can't decide between the LG G3 D858 (32GB/3GB RAM) and the OnePlus One (64GB). LG has the upper hand when it comes to camera, storage and dual SIM support but the OPO has better battery and better software support. Since I can't have all of that in one phone, I'm finding it nigh impossible to decide.

Help?

I haven't looked at it but the LG G4 was announced/released like yesterday, you could take a look at that and see if it's a good compromise for you.

[edit:] Woops, didn't realize it's already taking up the majority of this very page.

I mean... I'd go for the OPO. It has a significantly better build quality and it supports rooting and even has a custom ROM/OS built for it. The G3 is just plastic, like any other phone.. with a decent Android OS skin.

Yeah, that's not really an option since it's going to be insanely priced. OPO and G3 are around the same price.

I'm still using my N4 and really want to switch.

I haven't found anything I really like though. OPO is perfect (almost), it's just too big.

Asus Zenfone 2 sounds nice or a Moto X.

There are options.

You can also check on Swappa.com for some friendlier prices.

I was sold on the Asus Zenfone 2 until I found out about the battery issues with the 4GB version. Spoke with a couple of my friends who have the OPO and have almost made up my mind to get the same.

Edit: Placed an order for the OPO today.

Congrats!

I'd be with you (the N4 is a great phone but the battery is terrible, terrible, terrible) but where I am, importing anything over $200 sucks. At $350 for the 64GB model, I'd be looking at about $75 in taxes and even that isn't certain.

Customs here is a crap shoot.

$75 in taxes?! Ouch! I'm thankful it's pretty cheap over here. Less than what I paid for the N4 back in 2013.

The terrible battery on the N4 is what forced me to get a new phone. I had originally planned to stick with the N4 until year end. But only 1-2 hours of SOT really kills the joy of carrying a Nexus around in your pocket. I'll still be keeping it though; there's no way I'm selling that baby.

Also, there's some rumour going around about a 2015 Nexus 5. Not sure how much truth there is to it but Google seriously needs to consider the market that made the N4 and N5 so popular. N6 was overkill in every way.

I don't think I'll sell my N4 either, it's still a nice piece of equipment.

I'd be down with a 2015 N5 but the same battery problem plaguing the N4 is what happens on the N5.

Really, as you've made a recent purchase, the OPO is the clearcut winner in all aspects. If you're going to drop that amount there's no reason not to get the OPO.

I hope you enjoy it, Girish. When will you get it? It took my brother around 3 or 4 days.

Also, there's kind of this huge outrage against HTC lately. They announced a little under a week ago (i think) that the HTC One Mini 2 will not be receiving Lollipop, even though it was confirmed to happen. It was also announced that the original One Mini will not be getting it, either. Samsung also replied to someone on their Facebook page, saying the Galaxy Note 2 isn't getting Lollipop, either.

Really disappointing to those who have these devices.

Got it in 2 days. Amazon was pretty darn fast. Updated it to CM12 as well. I was skeptical at first since I've heard a lot of users complaining of battery draining issues but after using Lollipop on the N4 for so long it felt weird going back to Kitkat. Loving it so far and the battery is definitely a lot better than my N4, so can't really complain. ;p

And things like what HTC does to its userbase is what really puts me off buying from established market giants. Not to mention, the HTC One Mini 2 retailed at Rs.35,000 when it was launched... which is atrocious considering that it had specs that you could find in a Rs.10,000 phone. No software support even though the phone is barely a year old is just rubbing salt in your wounds. Samsung is even worse. They are known to abandoning phones in as less as 6 months. If I'm buying a premium phone, I should be entitled to software support for at least 2 years.

@Grish I was skeptical on getting a Note 4 for that reason. And worse of all, Samsung doesn't want to put their new touchwiz from the S6 and edge on their older products.

@Nick The Note 2 is almost 3 years old. And this is Samsung were talking about.

I ordered the Moto E 2nd Generation LTE Version a few days back. I talked to a lot of friends before ordering it. Turns out, there isn't any heating issues and the battery backup is great. I always turn on the battery saver and it easily goes on for a day or 2 with moderate usage. The best part is the software support.

Lollipop out of the box has a really clean and material design. It's great on eyes after using Jellybean and KitKat for a year. I'm sure Moto E will get the 6.0 update as well. I'm currently on 5.0.2 and I hope they'll release the 5.1.1 soon. Ever since OnePlus models stopped getting CM in them, the handset has been selling really good. Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience so far.

My S4's currently off-provider, I purchased it off of a friend of mine and it operated quite well after I had it. It's currently got the Cyanogenmod on it and up until about a week ago it worked great, connected to wifi just fine and registered it...

The device can still connect to wifi, but the wifi does not register. My online apps do not update, I'm unable to access the app store. Although wifi is 'connected' there is no online service currently available...

A friend of mine said something about what I believe was a port upload or something of the sort, but I don't know a damn thing about technology other than how to use it.

Sorry for the ignorance, and the help request, but thank you all for the consideration. :^:

Edit: It won't work on multiple wifi networks and this plague has spread to a family member's tablet also, unable to use connected wifi.
