Well I know its only speculation, but we have seen an engine on fire and a jet exploding in the trailers. Destructible planes is a possible sign of flyable planes. But I wont fully believe it until something is announced.

By that logic, we will be able to work the crane and make the Statue of Happiness walk like in Ghostbusters 2

It's been announced. Game Informer had a sit down with R* and BOGT and...drum roll please....No planes.

It really is way too small to fly planes. The helicopters move across the map in a flash, and plus, they need time to actually make the planes IV/HD quality.

We are seeing right now the remake of the old games in HD - that's what this gen is about in GTA, even if it only ends up being IV/LC then V/wherever.

If you remember, when you crashed a plane in SA, it disappeared. It was sh*t. The in-flight collision with water was innacurate (square), it was a pretty crazy setup.

That being said, planes DO still exist because it's still the EXACT same game, with a new rendering engine, and advancements to what you see (and advancements to what is not yet seen/as yet unused: those "orphan files" from SA are still in the game, just not in the IV build)

Same thing with trains: When you derailed those, those sucked. It was cool the first time, it felt weight, but if we wanted to still be stealing trains, it would A: still look like sh*t (since the game we got was delayed, let alone all the features not even in IV but present in SA) or B: We'd still be waiting to play this game.

You gotta take the good with the bad. New York City is gray and brown and dull and so is the season of Fall. That makes it PERFECT for the first place in a game since you work through color palletes throughout the life of a console (don't argue, go look at old nintendo games compared to the last ones made - it wasn't a limitation, it's called 'sprinkling it on a bit at a time' - castlevania, zelda, these got more and more colorful, so did mario, ust like III, then VC was vibrant, then SA had that and then some in between - this will be no different)

That's why the water is black and you can't see through it (just like GTA III) and the next game will introduce blue waters of the south etc etc

They gave us WAY more in IV than we got in III - the next game will knock your socks off, I'm sure of it, just like Vice did.

Also, you won't get planes until they figure out how to fake you out tounge.gif

The game can't render that fast - in the end, "too small" is JUST A COVER UP for "Our engine can't swap files that fast" - fact. In SA, the motion blur wasn't motion blur at all, they compounded the image so you could not see the LOD switch to close range model (disable it or play MTA with it disabled, you'll see why they "blurred" it at high speed IN THE WAY that they did anyhow)

So, basically, this game was made mainly for XBox 360 while still supporting PS3 and PC, and the two consoles mentioned (and most PCs) have a hard enough time not having pop up as it is, and SA had popup until it was legacy and 2 or 3 generations of video cards passed. Flying a plane in THIS game would suck because there would be missing sh*t all over the place, all the time.

They need more time to optimize the rendering before they can put a real plane in there (key word is real, like the cars, the ped animations, etc) that isn't just an old SA handling line (like those you can use in GTA IV to fly cars like planes - flying an SA plane in IV would ruin the HD experience - no plane takes off that easily, they want it to be REAL, so we have to wait smile.gif)

If you want to fly A plane, you'll get one in like a year. If you want to fly many planes, see you in 2012 (when I expect the Final Build to be done).

Not true at all. The water was black, because that is what color the water is there. And planes would not work in Liberty City. It is too small. There's no reason for a plane when you can already fly across the city in 60 seconds in a helicopter. You think with all the content and detail in this game, that they didn't have enough technology to put in airplanes or make blue water? If so you are sadly mistaken.

More of a sandy green, I though the water was black because they didn't have time to add more detail to it, notice how there is no underwater, its just empty space. The water is just a thin layer, under that theres nothing.

well, there's no reason to go under water, so why would they need to go through all that?

And also, this game has some of the best water physics in any game, so that is another reason all these "they didn't have enough time to add details to the water" statements are invalid

its been a while since ive posted here but i felt like throwing in my 2 cents. to all the people who don't want planes in the game, you are aware that you would not have to fly them right? it drives me crazy to hear people say that they don't want things in the game for this reason or that. it was the same with the "walkabout radio" that they took out of the game because they wanted you to experience the noises of the city, ok how about you leave that choice up to me? sometimes i just want to walk around and listen to the great music that GTA has. anyway, the one thing that i love about grand theft auto games is all the extra sh*t that they throw into the games, lawnmowers, jet packs, combine harvesters, etc, etc. and just like all the other stuff in GTA, you only have to use it if you want to. so please quit dumbing the game down for the rest of us.

also, Liberty City IS big enough to have simple planes like dodos. remember Vice City had a sea plane, and vice city stories had a sea plane and a biplane and vice city is like 1/5 the size of LC and to the best of my knowledge, VC is only one city, so the argument is invalid. IMO it all has to do with 9/11 and the simple solution for that would be to prevent the plane from exploding if you fly it into a building, just let it fall apart and fall to the earth like the heli's do if you ram them into something.

anyway, im sure there wont be any planes in TBOGT, but this aviation enthusiast is keeping his fingers crossed for GTA NEXT

It has NOTHING to do with 9/11. They even stated that themselves. The reason they didn't put planes in is the reason I and a few others said. By your logic, they could put in UFOs, pirate ships and dinosaurs, BUT YOU DON'T HAFF TO USE EM SO SHADDUP. No, you wouldn't have to use planes, but that still doesn't mean they go in the game

lol.giflol.gif wow...i dont really see how UFO's and dinosaurs can be compared with aeroplanes/jets. Especially since planes were available to the player in the past.

I'm not bothered about aeroplanes personally, i dont even use the helicopters all that often, but i just had to point how you just twisted his logic to ridiculous lengths.

A Dodo and Skimmer would fit GTAIV LC. Skimmer for the water that surrounds the islands and a Dodo is fine with just a single airport. The everyday casual flight pilot takes off and lands at the same airports. Planes are better than Heli's for stunting. If the clipped dodo was good enough for III a full winged dodo would suffice for IV.

Some people enjoyed flying the fixed wing aircraft..and were dissapointed that it didn't follow in the sequel. Its understandable that they'd wish it would return bored.gif

They could add a spae shuttle if they wanted. But they did not. And i'm happy they didn't. Too over-the-top is sh*t. But i do hope they add that sort of stuff in GTA VI.

That's actually a very cool idea. I would love the idea of blasting off into space... goto the international space station. I mean why the heck not? They have an engine for it. The people behind the game are finally going back to their san andreas ways = do anything.

I also want destructible buildings, a real tank, a jet pack and a REALLY big bomb.

It's a little over 1/3rd the size of SA. Even in SA it took a minute to fly across in a plane, so it would be 20 seconds give or take in IV.

It works in SR2 so it could work in LC if explained storyline wise how he knows how to fly, like hes Gay Tonys pilot because he made him learn when he first started out.

Nothing worked in SR2 and where in the f*ck would he fly Gay Tony to? That's gotta be fun taking off in Franis International Airport and landing in Francis International Airport sarcasm.gif

LC is not simply too small, it's just fine in size. It's just too small for airplanes and San Andreas would be far, far larger in comparison. Airplanes actually make sense when you have multiple cities with their own airports and rural areas in between.

So now because of America, the whole world has to suffer with no planes

This is not about terrorists and 911 or "because of America". Planes just have no place and no use in this game and so what?

I sure as f*ck hope the developers don't come anywhere near here looking for suggestions, because if it was up to some of these "fans" we'd have a steaming pile of sh*t of a game.

The thing you should've know by now is that GTA will never be like SR2. SR2 was Volition/THQ's sad attempt at recreating San Andreas, and brought features that GTA IV didn't have as a way to bring distraught SA fans to play their game. There will be no planes for TBOGT. period, so suck it up.

To the people that think LC is too small.... um... GTA III? Vice City? LC is just a bit smaller than SA

The filesize of IV's Liberty City is slightly smaller than San Andreas. It may just be one city, but it is as big as the PS2 rendition of SA.

So now because of America, the whole world has to suffer with no planes

Listen to what Sinz86irocblk had said, unless you're going to do a ridiculous "I Hate America" rant.
