garvey100
Hi folks...new to the forum but I can't seem to sort this problem. I have been away for a while and went to play GTA4 over the weekend. It told me there was another windows live update....I was a little concerned since the last updated rendered multiplayer unplayable till a fix came out. Anyway, I installed it and now single player runs smooth as anything still but multiplayer is absolutely screwed....I cannot play at all it is so juddery....I end up getting booted with the "your computer is running too slowly message". Has anyone else had this problem with their machine is what I want to know I guess, and if they have, is there any solution. My system ran the entire game smooth as silk on medium/high until the update (I recently updated to Zone Alarm Extreme Security from the normal one but I disable this in the game). My system Windows XP SP3 Quad Core 6600 stock 4 gig of RAM in XP (3.3 approx recognised) Nvidia 9600gt Card 6.5 meg internet connection Ran fine previously and Resident Evil 5 and Arkham Asylum run spot on.....any suggestions as to what it could be or a fix? I am running out of options unfortunately
mkey82
Try the usual, uninstall GFWL and install it manually http://www.rockstargames.com/support/IV/PC/GFWLupdate/
MuseManAzzy
I have the same problem, I have the exact same specs as you apart from CPU, i have AMD athlon x2 64 6000+ (3ghz). @mkey82 - Tried that but it's made no difference for me Anyone got any ideas? (fully legit game copy with retail dvd in drive) I'd like to get the point accross that singleplayer runs PERFECTLY high settings with no lag or jerkyness what so ever. but multiplayer.. after about 30 seconds it drops to less than 1fps and you can hardly use the menu as it very rarely registers the key presses. mkey82
This is f*cked up, have you tried the memrestric command line? (even though I don't know what will it do since your game works OK in SP).
MuseManAzzy
Tell me about it. tried memrestrict and did nothing unfortunately I'm completely stumped. I have installed this on my dads pc, same specs exactly, and he has no problems (we're wanting to play on LAN). I don't want to have to do a reinstall, it takes forever! (i should point out incase you're thinking its not liking us both playing the same copy of the game on lan its fine, as my computer does this if i join any multiplayer game) Thanks for any help Azz
mkey82
I don't think a reinstall will fix it. Are both of those PCs one to the same internet connection?
garvey100
Sorted!!! Appears that Zone Alarm Extreme Security's old version was causing a conflict with both Windows Live and Games for Windows Live....have installed the update to ZA and it's working fine now!
