unopescio
Haha, weirdest thing tonight, I was chatting with my Dad about this and I was like "have you ever heard of the walled city in China?" "You mean the the kowloon walled city?" "Yeah" "Oh yeah Ive been there." Apparently his Chinese friend and him went there just to check it out and its pretty much exactly how he described it. random leaking pipes and uncovered cables all over the place, random staircases which could lead you from one side of corner of the city to the opposite one, and dirt shops and tiny houses. He says he has pictures somewhere in the garage, if he finds them Ill scan and post them. I guess it wasn't as dangerous to go there as its made out to be. Ats.
Oh my god, that's interesting, but weird. I haven't ever heard of this place.
DanManUtd
That's unbelievable. Shame it got demolished, 'cos essentially an entirely new culture has been developed there, they even had their own sausages!
uzi 9mm
I'm glad you liked the thread uni and read through it. Mr.O, the place in Mexico you posted definately looks like some type of slum, if streetview was available you'd get a much better idea of what it's like, but even from above it looks gritty. And what a chance that your Dad had once been there OnePiece, if he has got pictures you should scan them and put them up here as I and most others would like to see! Some Chinese people who even lived within 10 miles of the walled city were oblivious to its existance. That's wierd, the government certainly knew how to keep a low profile on such a place. Even though it's got history. I even think they did have their own culture DanManUtd, it was like a closely formed community, and the poeple who lived there somehow got on with the Triad activities and went on with their lives as normal. It's a big shame it got demolished, but when I think over the smell of the place which was said to stink, and wacky Chinese mobs high on opium and/or heroin in a near enough pitch black environment, I think it would be frightening even for me. I would have to be lead in by a closely trusted friend, or at least go in there with a few other Asian people and blend in with them, since I'm not Asian. Mr. O
Uzi, here are some pictures of this place. The people that live in all of the houses work in the factories right on the border. Some of the factories that are out there are Zenith, Panasonic, RCA, & Phillips. These companies put their factories on the Mexico side of the border because they can get away with paying their workers a hair over $1 USD a day, as well as having the free trade act between Mexico & US. If the factories are within five miles of the border they don't have to pay a tariff on their shipments from the factories. It is mostly women that work in these factories and after their shift ends at night they walk home alone. Over the past 10 years Juarez has seen over 400 women fall victims to sexual homicides, their bodies often dumped in ditches or vacant lots. In addition, grassroots organizations in the region report that 40 remain missing. Despite pressure to catch the killers and a roundup of some suspects, few believe the true culprits have been found. Here are some pictures of the common neighborhoods west of Juarez, these are often called the "hills of Juarez." The bus shown in the image above is the bus that usually shuttles workers home after their shift is over.
rampage!
I've never heard of this place. It's fascinating and grim. Can't imagine raising a family there. Also wonder what the sausage was made of. Mr. O: I've heard about those killings on America's Most Wanted. It's hard to believe that so many murders could go unsolved. Unbelievable and frightening. poopskin
Why do i think that Chinese city or something like it should be in the next Fallout?
uzi 9mm
That Mexican city looks like a hell hole, no lie, I would hate to live there, especially as the women get rapedand killed I couldn't live in a place like that at all. And the thing rampage just said about the sausage made me chuckle, it was a dirty place, who knows what they put in that sausage. poopskin, the city being in a video game would just be the best present for me, I hope some game developers include the city or even base the whole game on it. It would fit nicely in a GTA game I think, even if R* make a totally separate game for it like the LA game they're making.
