liquidus119
Flamethrower is the least conventional weapon there is. It's a wierd weapon to bring to a firefight. It worked in SA cause there was a mission that you had to burn weed plants in. It worked in every GTA since GTA2, so I don't see why it couldn't work here. Saying that it wouldn't fit in doesn't make any sense, seeing as this is the big bad episode that is supposed to bring everything everyone loved about GTA back. I swear to god, the way some people talk all they cared about was the SAW, Tank and parachutes... Edited September 23, 2009 by liquidus119

Have you noticed that the combat in GTA IV is almost the complete opposite of the older GTAs and GTA CW? In those games they had you run'n'gun and practically get in the middle of the action firing like a maniac. In GTA IV it has you stay as far away as possible from enemies and use accuracy over rate of fire. A flamethrower would be a bit too close of range for decent combat. If somebody gets close to you you usually would most likely use a shotgun or SMG. The thrown weapons may also be close range, but they are designed so they can be used at arcs and many angles. I just believe a flamethrower isn't really for GTA IV combat.
TheBruceter
He's got a point, imagine being online with a flamethrower. You wouldn't manage to get close enough to anyone to actually do anything. It is a more distance type game play style.
joe1606
I don't think Rockstar want you to kill civilians in Gta IV . Thats why you can't take hostages (unlike saints tow 2 ) , and you can't do rampages anymore . Of courses you can do major civilians killing but with the regular weapons , it's more like in action movies . A flamethrower is more cruel , and with the realistic direction rockstar has taken I think it will be too violent .

Totally agree with this right here Imagine getting into cover then trying to blindfire a flamethrower A minigun seems much more appriopate for the latest incarnation of GTA gameplay but then again theres that heavy machine gun which is sure to have the lack of a minigun seem much easier to get over
OGLuke
Flamethrower wont be in because there's always one new heavy weapon that's added for the DLC. The grenade launcher was [email protected]'s heavy weapon, and the MG29 will be filling in as the heavy in bogt. However if woud be nice if R* gave us a blowtorch to torture people with like punisher lol.
liquidus119
How can someone use the argument that you can't blind fire with a flamethrower, but then suggest a minigun would be a better weapon? Whatever. Regardless, I hope that these are not the only weapons being added and they save something really special for when the game comes out, flamethrower or otherwise. Oh and by the way have you guys ever played other games.......wait I see i'll give you an example. Lollercoaster
i rather have a chainsaw, aslong as you can cut of arms n leggs and stuff like in shelshock Most normal people don't have any needs to see limbs being cut of in a game. supermortalhuman
Chainsaws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Won't get those until they incorporate a gore mechanic like God Of War 3 uses. As for a flamethrower, what slot did it go into before? Same as minigun, right? Wasn't that the bazooka slot too, or no? Think of the implications, here is a reiterated example: Chansaw: Can't be done in IV until you can really cut off body pieces because otherwise it is not up to par with everything else (same reason you can't steal and derail a train) Now, knowing that much, constructively, What is the reason there is no flamethrower yet (even though one exists in the Weapons config file)? I think the old games were where they knew "this is our last chance to do some crazy over the top sh*t before it all needs to be awesome looking - we know what WE are coming to do to the gaming industry, let's not assume we are alone. This generation we can get away with it, in the next generations, we won't have an excuse for not severing limbs with the chainsaw" etc. This time, they are constrained by standards - our standards, as gamers. I have to keep it real here: If you think you would have been happier with SA and IV graphics, you're wrong, it would have sucked, and felt like a better version of saints row 2. You know that feeling you get when you play saints row 2? You know the one, where you go "damn, this sucks. It feels like I'm playing f*ckin truecrime", we would not have like a bigger SA, and if it was an HD (more than just images) game like IV is, it would not even be released yet (we'd still be waiting, we got what they have, if you wanted trains, planes, flamethrowers, miniguns, RC cars, all that sh*t, you would still be waiting, basically) Edited September 23, 2009 by supermortalhuman

Because a minigun, the smaller versions at least, isn't entirely impossible to shoot around the corner blindsided...while a flamethrower would just make a flaming mess and hardly go anywere Well I don't agree at all first of all theres shotguns and there extremely close range, a flamethrower can reach 20 meters. RATEDR307
The flamethrower was never even that fun of a weapon to use in previous GTA games. You had to be in point blank range to burn someone and you usually end up burning yourself. The molotovs however were a lot of fun because you could throw them like a mile and they had a huge burn radius so you could kill 5 people with 1 molotov. And when I said "who the hell uses a flamethrower anymore" I meant that flamethrowers are pretty much obsolete and haven't been used since Nam, and wouldn't really make sense to put it in a somewhat realistic game.
