I think GTA IV is the perfect installment in the series so far, my reasons being that we get our realism, thoughtful story, and fun stuff like San Andreas all in one package.

Can you please do an example of the expectations? i to heard alot of stupid things before release.

I can't really pin point something specfic as it was from almost 2 years ago, but I remember some people were expecting GTA IV to have Niko piss, sh*t, sleep (I know he sleeps when you save, but actually "sleeping" like in The Sims) etc all because R* said it was going to be realistic, and then there's the people that wanted more cities than SA.

 

IMO a completely unrealistic expectation for a game that was built on new hardware which was still reletively new to R*.

The toilet, teeth brushing etc was yet another fanboy quote that appeared from out their arses. For example, someone would comment on the Niko sleeping feature being more realistic, so then came "what do you want next, tooth brushing?"etc. Similarly, there would be fanboy cries of "go play the sims if you want X feature" or "go play midnight club if you want carmods". Its just 12 yr olds with no sense of balance.

 

Some of the hype though, did come from interviews and previews in mags. I can remember one journo saying the streets would become a meaner place to be after dark, with muggings and such like. There were other things that didnt come off too, like the bus timetable feature, climbing telegraph poles....
