John The Grudge
I think a few people did have a problem with the physics in GTAIV, and the response they often got may have been gtfo and play Saints Row or something. Most people though loved the more realistic physics but missed distractions like parachutes and jet packs and stuff. There's no hypocracy there. Dvt-MedShot
i mean i'd love a tank, and a flamethrower, properties, and stuff, in IV because of the physics, just not bullsh*t like that gimp suit or a purple mohawk. i'm sure people want modding and customization, but i love the clothes you can buy and the cars are just so good that i don't need modding. Yeah you are absolutely right!
blowdro420
the sh*tty gun sounds... You need to get a better sound card then... I have a Sound Blaster sound card, and the guns on San Andreas sound better than GTA IV... hands down. ...the overwhelmingly large PIXELS! Then get a better video card... I'm running San Andreas at 1680 x 1050 resolution with level 3 anti-aliasing, and it looks great... no large pixels to be seen. no way the gun sounds are better than gta IV. they sound so sh*tty in SA. As I already stated, upgrade your sound card... also get some good speakers; don't use the crappy ones that come with your PC. blowdro420
i have some altec lansing speakers with a sub woofer. they sound great. i don't know if they're as good as your "professional" ones. i was talking about the sound the guns make, not how loud they are, or how they sound with mods. i think i might play SA again. (gta: the trilogy xbox) Gotcha… no mods used, the sound is just better… maybe if they’d used better gun sound F/X in GTA IV then I’d agree, but the gun sounds are very weak. johnwelshmorris5
Rubba-Dukie: Car handling, now that, apart from the 4x4s, is the one thing that is realistic. All the non-drivers were up in arms because it wasnt arcade on rails. Realistic perhaps, but just felt way too sensitive. Yea i agree,if you hit a garbage bin in any car you spin out of control....how is that "realistic"?

rampage!
Once I got used to driving in IV, I loved it. Way closer to real driving. When I go back and play older gtas, the driving feels kind of ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, it was so much fun back then (still fun actually). It's just that you can really feel the difference in handling with an Infernus compared to a Manana. Of course, driving motorcycles sucks in this one. Haven't played LATD yet. Punk-in-Drublic
I`ve been reading through a lot of posts(not gonna name names) with people saying about TBOGT saying.."wow parachutes,i love over the top fun and i love loads of the features that are coming" etc yet these are the people that were say GTFO and go play san andreas when ever someone said they wanted more features or were disappointed with IV. can anyone else here smell hypocrisy? or is it just that fact that these "fans" will take anything R* throw at them? No, you're talking out of your arse, I dont even have a clue what you just said. If you were meant to say something along the lines of "I think people who were dissapointed in the lack of features in GTA IV neglected the game for San Andreas and slated IV for being 'realistic'." then no, I dont think they're hypocrites, R* have added a lot of fun, yet at the same time realistic features to BOGT and the people who loved these from previous titles should enjoy playing them and be glad that they're getting something that they enjoy. Personally, I loved both IV & San Andreas, both very good games and I still dont know why people compare two different games from two entirely different era's. Bellic Man
Personally, I loved both IV & San Andreas, both very good games and I still dont know why people compare two different games from two entirely different era's. I can sincerely agree! It's so stupid to compare two games that aren't really comparable. I equally love both of them. GTA IV is more realistic and the story is far better, but at the same time those unrealistic moments really suit SA. Car handling is far better in IV, though it takes some time to adjust. But in the end it's worth it.
Tsar_Smirnoff
This is like comparing GTA III to the original GTA, if we're going to compare something, how about picking two games from the same generation?
Slamman
To me, it makes sense they can add things that players like about SA as easy DLC additions, it's less work I suspect, but also feeds truth to NaySayers who were crying and crying over the released version. They can't get the same satisfaction we get playing the game as it was, as it is. And it CAN be a fun, it can waste OODLES of time too, I know!!! I swear you're the cousin of Johnny K, and GTAAddictForever. What I find hypocritical is when people bag GTA IV for its apparent realism yet they don't have a problem with SA having girlfriends, eating, working out etc. I like both games, but honestly I think the debate between them has been flogged like a dead horse. LOL Well I play it on a console...I don't have a gaming pc, wish I did... but still...how would getting better speakers, make the SA's guns sound better than IV's? IV's would still sound better, thus making me annoyed with how generic SA's sound. SA's guns sound like little pops. I don't know SA was great but once I played IV I don't feel like going back to '04.

DrAnomalous
Who's in denial? If people over hype themselves and can't control their speculations and contain them to just that, then they are responsible for their own disappointment. The game is balls to the walls fun with or without the DLC. When IV was comming out nobody promised them any of the sh*t they were dreaming about. All it takes is a small amount of inconclusive evidence and the worlds team of worst Jr. detectives.

I know what this forum was like before GTA IV came out. I joined a few days before its original release, but it was pushed back to April 29, 2008. PhilipO43
As long as they don't make it stupidly unrealistic like Saints Row or uber realistic like Rainbow Six, I won't have a problem with the realism. Exactly, my view on this as well. R6(the original) was too realistic to the point of having 'dead' spots while playing. The same goes even more so with Shenmue, of which was the more realistic modern world action/adventure series ever developed. On the flip side Saints Row2 went to the extreme were it centered on activities much more then it's core game and it's storyline. There must be a balance when games are set in a realistic world, and SA was more slanted towards a weak core/off the charts features/and an unrealistic story and features. However IV is slanted a bit too much towards realism, in terms of it's activities, and while TLAD spiced it up a bit, i do like that TBOGT seems to added in more 'fun' activites. And one more thing TGOBT seems to have added(from the 4 missions in previews) is that it's missions are heavily action orientated, and are not just go to point A and kill a few guys..over and over.(like vanilla IV had) And i'm not the biggest fan of skydiving or playing golf in a game, but it sure outdoes being forced to play darts. If TBOGT adds in some dancing, maybe even better arcade games?(as in opening up the video arcade), more interesting missions, and a few other nice touches like car modding, then i believe the whole game will have that perfect balance. One more thing, a FPS view on foot(no cheats) would be sweet, and better MP as well. btw: Many forget that the features in GTA:SA were just poorly done. For instance you could have Carl reach being ripped in the gym, in as little as 5 or so days.

Algonquin Assassin
Can you please do an example of the expectations? i to heard alot of stupid things before release. I can't really pin point something specfic as it was from almost 2 years ago, but I remember some people were expecting GTA IV to have Niko piss, sh*t, sleep (I know he sleeps when you save, but actually "sleeping" like in The Sims) etc all because R* said it was going to be realistic, and then there's the people that wanted more cities than SA. IMO a completely unrealistic expectation for a game that was built on new hardware which was still reletively new to R*.
