Spring would probably be your best bet weatherwise. Don't you have a mid year uni break?

When would the best time to holiday in Southern California/Las Vegas be? I know that Summer would probably be the answer, but I'll be unable to go then as it'll be smack-bang in the middle of uni, so I'm left with winter, spring and fall. Besides, I don't want to go during a time where there are a sh*t-load of tourists (summer), but I still want to know what would be preferable from people who've been there.

The places I'm planning on going to are LA, San Diego and Vegas.

Friends of mine have managed to fit Euro trips into their winter breaks over uni. If you're only going for ~2 weeks then it's a good option for the northern summer.

Although some of the more intense uni courses (ie: what you'll probably end up doing) sometimes start/finish earlier than others. I know med and dentistry barely have breaks at all.

Winter, been in Vegas February 2006 or 2007 or so, nice temperatures and all.

Serbs: Neo-Russian, nationalistic commies; cheeky.

Croats: Neo-German, nationalistic fascists; stubborn and can't take a joke.

Montenegrins: Lazy pieces of sh*t who are really Serbs yet claim that they're not.

Slovenians: Pussies.

Macedonians: Whiny Bulgarians.

Bulgarians: Fascists.

Romanians: Gypsies.

Albanians: Drug-dealing, people-smuggling criminals.

Bosnians (as a region): Hot-headed and nationalistic, regardless of ethnicity.

Bosnian Muslims: Neo-Turkish, nationalistic Islamists who actually don't care at all about Islam.

Jews/Chinese: Are entirely materialistic and are only focused on money, and are good at Math.

Lol, as GTAvanja mentioned, most of your stereotypes are just insults.

'Macedonians: Whiny Bulgarians.'

Don't know where you got this from, seems like a pretty cheap shot at Macedonians.

I'll do a few using your perception of stereotypes.

Serbs: Russia's bitch, In bed with Greece, Like to commit genocide, Communists.

Jews: Money hungry tight asses, work together to screw over others, a religion not a race, big noses, whiny voices, want something for nothing.

Well, stereotypes often are insults.

Not always, but in general they are. But my problem here is that with the post I quoted, Stefche's own personal agenda seems to be apparent in some of his 'stereotypes.' Some of those I've never heard of, which makes me believe that it is his own opinion rather than a widely used or renown stereotype. His own Serb stereotype doesn't seem that bad..I mean, 'cheeky'.....come on. sarcasm.gif

Why would I have a personal agenda? I'm not racist. Besides, why are you taking them so seriously? I've heard those stereotypes (even the one about Serbs) from family members' jokes, both in Australia and Serbia. And are you seriously going to tell me that nobody has ever referred to Macedonians as Bulgarians? As for the 'whiny' part, well, my cousin used that in reference to your argument with the Greeks over the ethnicity and nationality of Alexander the Great, but I don't think that even he meant that all Macedonians were whiny c*nts.

They're stereotypes for a reason: they're not actually true, and only come about out of individual observations, before being amplified to generalise a whole group. No need to be so easily offended, man... next time, I'll write a paragraph, which, after being verified by a lawyer, will be used as an official proclaimer claiming that what I wrote was not intended to offend anyone, and was not meant to represent the true feelings of myself and my thoughts... if that'll make you happy. tounge.gif

People from the former Yugoslav: Always take things seriously. tounge.gif

Well, the problem here is that your 'stereotype' is used as an insult on countless occasions in the real world, so it's a bit hard to consider some of your 'stereotypes' in the context that you say you intended to use them in.

I don't care if it's a stereotype or not, but if people are offended by it then it is nothing more than an insult. Neither do I care what your family members said, or your attempt to use them as an excuse.

You're a racist man. I don't care where you're from. You're to judgmental and conservative. Maybe you should stop posting for a while before you offend more people. Who's next? African-Americans, Jews? Maybe you'd like to take a shot at Jamaicans?

I don't think you are a racist, but you seem to think that Serbia is somehow the superior power of the Balkans. GTAvanja is right though, there is a line, and although it may be blurred, you definiately crossed it. Sometimes jokes are taken out of proportion, but your 'stereotypes' appeared too detailed and harsh to expect everyone to take it light heartedly.

Hey, nah, don't worry about the lawyer bro...I'll just ask my cousin for some fully sick stereotypes next time to throw back at you.

People from the former Yugoslav: Always take things seriously. tounge.gif

There you are at it again, and how can you possibly generalise a whole region when the people are distinctively different. As much as you may want, the days of Yugoslavia are long gone, and the people within your utopia were never one.

Oh yeh, by the way...I wouldn't count on Stefche doing Jew insults...he seems to have an unhealthy obsession with them. dozingoff.gif

On another note, if your looking to go to Las Vegas and can't make it in the summer, go during spring. But in my opinion if you want to go to Vegas, you should wait until your 21.

Oh yeah, I knew that, but as far as I know Pharmacy is pretty light and boring, and only one subject in the course requires a lot of effort. Even if I don't do Pharmacy, I'll be doing Commerce, and you can practically pass that with minimal effort, from what I've been told, anyway. I just don't want to have to squeeze a holiday when I don't have too much time on me, although I guess when I work that'll be all the breaks that I'm gonna get. tounge.gif Although, a Southern Cali summer would be lovely to experience

Pip: From what I've read, there's a lot of rain in LA during Spring, and I basically came out of the womb with hay fever, so that's a bit of an issue.

Andy: That's where I was more leaning towards, since that's when I'd have the most time off. Something in December or January. Did it rain much in winter?

Jay: If I ever go to Adelaide again, I will bring about 200 bottles of fantastic, fresh Melbourne water with me. I'm not a fan of drinking water which has gone through rubbish, personally, although you South Australians always seemed like a weird bunch. wink.gif

All of these following quotes are from Chorup's post, by the way. Sigh.

Well, the problem here is that your 'stereotype' is used as an insult on countless occasions in the real world, so it's a bit hard to consider some of your 'stereotypes' in the context that you say you intended to use them in.

So what, you're suggesting that I'm lying? As I have stated about five f*cking times already, I was simply answering Sanjeem's question as for a few stereotypes he could use for his project. I fully realise that stereotypes can come across as insulting, but, you have to understand that I did not create those insults. I really don't know how to make it any clearer than that; what do you want me to do? Stereotypes against Asians, Jews, Blacks, Aboriginal Australians etc. are used as insults in the real world as well, but they'd only be considered offensive if someone was actually believing in them and was letting it cloud their judgement about a person.

I understand where you're coming from, but I think you're simply misunderstanding where I'm coming from. There's no secret agenda behind my message, and it's not meant to paint some subliminal message that I happen to think that Serbs are superior in some way. I was simply, in plain English, answering Sanjeem's question.

I don't care if it's a stereotype or not, but if people are offended by it then it is nothing more than an insult. Neither do I care what your family members said, or your attempt to use them as an excuse.

So, if Sanjeem asked what the stereotype of Jewish people is, and I answered that they're abrasive, annoying and materialistic, and you were Jewish and you happened to read that, would you react to that in the same way? I can understand you being offended if I was going around the forums posting derogatory comments about Macedonians or whoever, but I'm not. Again, I really don't know how to make that clearer.

And I'm not creating excuses; I'm just defending myself, 'cause I feel like I'm being put into a firing squad simply for giving a few examples of stereotypes which have been used as labels before; I didn't use them because I believed in them! Don't get angry and upset at me due to your own ultra-sensitivity.

I don't think Serbia's a better country than any other country in the Balkans, but naturally I want the best for my homeland. Does that make me a bad person? And how exactly have I crossed a line? I wasn't making those insults and jokes up, I was REPEATING THEM (I've lost count as to how many times I've said that).

There you are at it again, and how can you possibly generalise a whole region when the people are distinctively different. As much as you may want, the days of Yugoslavia are long gone, and the people within your utopia were never one.

Are you f*cking kidding me? You must be, seriously, you have to be f*cking trolling. Was the smilie at the end of the sentence not enough to maybe suggest that I was joking and humorously mocking your overreaction to this? Or were you offended? I mean, come on man, seriously, that's just deliberately being an asshole just to ram a point home if you are actually offended by that.

And what the hell is this sh*t about a Yugoslav utopia? We've never talked about the subject of Yugoslavia before, nor have we discussed its merits or negatives or our opinions on the subject. If you're really interested in finding out my opinions on the subject, then feel free to talk with me about it through PM or whatever. But, I never lived in Yugoslavia, so I don't really have a solid opinion on it either way, but just like you want the best for Macedonia, I want the best for my homeland and my people. I really don't see anything wrong with that. And, I still don't see what the hell that has to do with what I posted in the first place!

Oh yeh, by the way...I wouldn't count on Stefche doing Jew insults...he seems to have an unhealthy obsession with them. dozingoff.gif

Unhealthy obsession? I just think that they deserve a lot of credit through being one of, if not, the most abused nationality on the planet, yet still battling through history and reaching success in a numerous number of fields. Even so, I don't go to bed thinking about them, if that's what you're insinuating.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm dragging on, but I genuinely don't believe that I've done anything wrong. A lot of this has just been a vastly over-exaggerated misunderstanding. It would've been all over if you simply said, "I hope you don't believe in those", and I would've been honest and said, "Not at all, they're just a few that I've heard before, but I don't personally believe in them. Sorry if they offended you; that wasn't the intention." And that's it!.

On another note, if your looking to go to Las Vegas and can't make it in the summer, go during spring. But in my opinion if you want to go to Vegas, you should wait until your 21.

Well, alcohol isn't a huge issue for me, since I'm not really going over there to drink, but more simply to experience the area in SoCal since I've always been fascinated about it as a place to live, but of course I want to see if I'll actually enjoy living there before I make any plans for immigrating.

Minus the Boom

This is probably the weirdest non-sexual question in this thread to date, but...

Are any of the GTAF regulars teachers IRL?

And no.

Not looking for homework help.

Not that I know of, but there are certain ones I think would make for good teachers. That said, I could only tell you the occupations of like 2 or 3 people here anyway.

Yeah.

Ha.

This is true. However I think it's now all headed down to Melb makeshyft.

St Kilda right near the city is flooding. And we have had constant rain for that last 2 days in outer Western suburbs of Melbourne.

So I may be swimming to Coles myself. smile.gif

FYI, bro: buy nice, fresh food ASAP.

I already have a tonne of meat frozen from the abatoir(sp?) last month. So meat won't be a problem. Just need milk etc. Can you freeze milk?

Yes, you can- just make sure it's in a plastic container, upright, with the top slightly off, as it's expands a bit more than water does.

And its "abattoir".

Sorry, I'm not that good with Aus geography, the flooding or you guys' locations, but if you're hoping a stock of frozen meat will keep you fed in the case of sever flooding, watch out for electricity cut offs. I hear they're cutting off a lot of flooded areas' power, and your meat won't keep too well once thawed.

St. Kilda seems like one of the last places I'd expect to be flooded in Melbourne. I mean, I know it's right on the waterfront, but basically every street past Ackland Street towards all the Jewish suburbs is a bit elevated. Outer western suburbs I can see flooded, unless you're living in Keilor, which is pretty hilly as far as I know.

Although, finally, it's stopped raining. biggrin.gif

The reason they cut power in Brisbane was (iirc) because the sub-stations were really close to the river, and were in danger of being flooded themselves. Not due to damaged infrastructure.
