Sure, there were people that wore a bunch of black clothes.  I'm not sure anyone went so far as to pale up their face or anything.  The whole vampire thing hadn't really happened, and people weren't enticed by movies like ,The Lost Boys, and ,Love at first bite.  There just wasn't a term attached to that crowd.  Honest, they were just a spin off from punk at that time.  At least where I grew up.

What about Dave Vanian from The Damned, they were a 70's Punk band that influenced the Goth scene and he did the whole black hair/pale face routine and he used to dress in Vampire clothes and all that sh*t.

See....'punk'. Goth wasn't really the term used. Thank goodness too or I wouldn't have let myself be turned onto the punk that I was back then. If original punk was attached to goth I would have had to pass it by just on the principle of not really caring for people thinking they are something they aren't. At least punk is just punk and not something where you feel an attachment to something that isn't there like the supernatural and vampires and sh*t.

 

I saw the cure a few times in the 80s - yes I saw pale face painted people there.

Anyway...I love punk and hate goth. Now I'm gonna put on some Dead Kennedys and remember how much I like soup and hate mtv.

(My mum is the one who buys it for me and she thinks it's the only shampoo out there that men can use... I don't think she actually does any research on stuff like this.)

Tresemme - separate shampoo and conditioner. Good conditioner for those with longer hair. Any of those two in one shampoo&conditioners suck.

Actually, moderators are able to delete threads, too.

Why won't iTunes let me import my CD's into iTunes properly. it imports the first song, but then the other ones it just skips by and then you can't listen to them. I'm thinking the the CD's are copy-protected. It is only the CD's that I ave purchased form this store, my other CD's (for example from Finland) import normally.

Okay, I'm doing this Digital Screens course at University, where we look at the different influences on media. We take a look at what creates media, who owns media, etc. We also have been looking at ways that Society as a whole interprets media. Some of the theories we have been introduced to include those of 'Symbolic Power and Popular Culture' by J Lull and talking about the 'hybridity' of media.

 

I have an assignment due this week which is a media mash up. I'm suppose to take songs, video clips, pictures, etc and create a short ( 3 minute clip ) on either power or dreams. I've decided on power and dreams ( yeah go me ). So, I was going to use the Hitler speech from Der Untergang unedited ( This is the Hitler rants about Xbox Live, iPads, etc ) speech.

 

I've decided on this because the 3 minute and 30 second speech encapsulates the struggle one man has when he realizes that the power he gained won't help him realize his dreams. I think, overall, this is a powerful depiction of powers corruption over the human spirit and that even though Hitler's dreams can be seen as atrocities ( which they were ), we still see him humanized ( I disagree with that aspect of his character ).

 

My question is, should I ask this girl out? should I actually change the subtext of the clip, ie re write the subtitles; should I mix in other images of say Hitler during on of his other speeches or by leaving it alone and just writing about the influence this clip has had on society a la the parodies?
