You seem to have American confused with Canadian.

Hockey is always being played here in Canada. After all, we have more skating rinks in Canada then we do Hospitals.

Yeah I know that and that is why I asked the question, I knew that Canadians do but I was wondering if Americans do it as much.

Most northern states are all about the hockey. The interest increases the closer you get to Canada, of course.

I don't mean to rain on no-one's parade, but don't kid yourselves. Ron Jeremy doesn't come close to Tom Selleck's mustache awesomeness.

I have my own answer to this question, but I was wondering what other people think:

What is the difference between a communist and a socialist, if any? Can the terms be used interchangeably?

I personally tend to make that distinction. I still hate labeling myself a socialist, but that's the closest description you'll get to my political views. Anyway, I don't know if there's an actual, "official", difference, but I view socialism as an economical system, and communism as a social and economical system.

What is the difference between a communist and a socialist, if any? Can the terms be used interchangeably?

Not really.

Based upon my knowledge, being a socialist means everyone is working for the "cause," whatever it may be. Being a communist is believing in a classless society; everyone gets the same, meaning there's no lower-class, middle-class, etc.

However, because it is human nature to compete with one another, including with money, all communist governments have eventually become at least mostly totalitarian governments in order to ensure everyone gets the same of everything.

The two terms are somewhat similar; however, you can see the differences. Communism in theory is very nice, but it never works because of human nature.

Now, for socialism. You have an American flag under your avatar, so you've probably heard of the warnings of the United States leaning more towards socialism. The reason why it is a big problem is that socialism differs greatly from capitalism, which is what this country was founded upon. With capitalism, the people usually worry about themselves, while socialism means everyone works together. I really don't care what you believe in, but I believe that we should stay capitalistic.

With your question; I don't believe communist and socialist can be used interchangeably because of their varying definitions. Just because someone or thing is communist doesn't mean it's also socialist, and vice versa. The reason why they are sometimes used interchangeably is because, to date, all communist governments have eventually become socialist.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me. smile.gif

As I understand the terms, "communist" is a subset of "socialist", meaning that if you are a communist you are also a socialist, but that being a socialist does not necessarily mean that you are a communist (most socialists, at least in western society, are not communists). Therefore, the terms can not in general be used interchangeably, but they are both be proper for labelling a particular person who is a communist.

A socialist is a person who is a supporter of socialism, which in turn is a tradition of left-leaning thought that emerged in the 1800s that traditionally stresses "class struggle" and government ownership of the means of production. (As I have heard, but not yet been able to verify, this tradition of thought can be traced all the way back to Plato though.)

A communist is a person who is a proponent of communism, a form of supposed earthly paradise thought to be the end product after a proletarian revolution and a period of socialism, communism being a society that is superabundent of resources, that is "classless" and where property is controlled (though not by the state, as this is a stateless society). This belief in an earthly "paradise" has lead some to view communism as a form of secular messianism.

Those are the traditional interpretations of the terms as I understand it. As socialism (and, by extension, communism) in this regard is viewed by many as having failed the test of time through the various attempts of implementations throughout the 20th century, present day people who called themselves "socialists" and "communists" may very well conveniently give those terms different meaning. For example, the dominant party in Swedish politics, the Social Democrats, keep many of the outward symbols of the socialist tradition, but also claim to support a market economy with private ownership of the means of production.

So the use of the terms quite understandably cause a lot of confusion when not even those who self label themselves "socialist" or "communist" are willing to stand by the traditional definition of the term.

What do you mean by "the cause"?

"The cause" can be pretty much anything. If there is a socialist government, then "the cause" is usually the government.

Who thinks widow maker is a d*ck? After reading that stupid topic he created then posted saying that gen chat is boring and everyone is boring him, nobody is forcing him to go on gen chat. Then he went on to say 'who plays gta anymore, it got boring after Vice City' what a load of sh*t. This is GTA Forums.com right? if he doesn't like GTA and gen chat then post on gaming chat or VC section.

Okay, f*ckers, you want a question? I've got a f*cking question.

What's the best thing to use to clean a laptop screen? I've noticed a bit of dust and the occasional fingerprint here and there, but I don't want to but any pressure on the screen because it is a tad flimsy in parts. Last thing I want to do is damage the thing while I'm cleaning it. I was recommended a standard dust cloth but I'm sure there's more off-the-wall sounding ideas that do a better job, especially for fingerprints.

Peace and chicken grease.

Glass cleaner, a soft cotton cloth and an air can now and then has never hurt any of my LCD screens. You can apply a little pressure if necessary without doing any damage. I have some cleaner designed for electronic devices too, but it doesn't really do the job any better than regular glass cleaner.

Dude, shut the f*ck up.

On topic - Sometimes when i have my air conditioning on in my car my eyes seem to steam up and remain like that for about an hour or two after the journey. Anybody here experience anything similar and know a remedy to get rid of it?, it only occurs when the air conditioning is on the highest heat. Gracias

I have a question, why do people put 'agree' instead of 'I agree' or 'agreed'? I could understand a grammatical mistake if it was at least above elementary level, but sadly it is not.
