But wouldn't it be nicer to share the planet, rather than try to dominate it, sorry I don't want to turn this into a debate, but I dont think the answer is as simply as that smile.gif

Ignoring won't work, best thing you can do is confront them, put them in their place, it will scare the crap of them, grab the main culprit by his throat and look him in the eye, and say whats your f*cking problem? Obviously I'm not fully aware of the circumstances surrounding this, but its never good to ignore something, its always better to solve it, you got a few choices, be a man and fight or be pussy and ignore or tell someone else who might be able to help you.

Next question: Why are there still people starving in the world, at the sametime others dying from obesity related illnesses? If we can bomb foreign lands, why can't we feed them?

"We got money for wars, but can't feed the poor?"- Tupac.

The government doesn't give a sh*t about the poor. They can deny it all they want, but if they cared so much, they'd do something about it. The majority of people don't really care either, so as long as everyone looks the other way, it's all good. And obesity is admirable in America.

People are only nice to a certain point. The kind of sharing needed to feed everyone would cut into everyone's life at least a little. There's no profit in it, so it will never happen. This planet cannot possibly support the current population on it's own, anyway. Not while maintaining the lifestyle many of us have become accustomed to, at least.

Of course it would, but politics, governments, money, ignorance and pure hate, among other things, will never let us achieve that.

It's a good sentiment, but unfortunately unrealistic.

It's a good sentiment, but unfortunately unrealistic.

That's the nature of humanity.

Plus, there's a tangible argument for self-determination. If, for example, the US starts feeding the world, won't all those allegations of imperialism just get stronger? And then there's the old "teach a man to fish" argument. And the fact that a significant potion of current aid- perhaps even a majority- goes into unsavoury things, like suppressing minorities, funding armed conflict and lining the pockets of the political elite. As great an idea as it seems in theory, it's not only unworkable, but also arguably not even sensible, to do it in practice.

One of the best ways to help the starving is to fight corruption.

With corruption, a person living in poverty who wants to work to make his/her life better is going to have it unnecessarily difficult.

If you really look at it, most of the starving people in the world live in countries with extremely corrupt politicians.

Oh and I don't agree that it's in humanity's nature to be ignorant and hateful. Sure there may be some people who fit the bill (these people still can overcome these flaws if they want to btw), but not all of us are like that. That's way too big a generalisation.

Humans are naturally greedy. Very, very few people do not want more than they have. Perhaps it's some archaic population control mechanism gone haywire, but it's definitely there and present even in "civilised" society.

Greed is the motivating force behind most conflicts, be their inter-personal or international.

Maybe just politicians then.

It's not just humans, animals do it too. The ideas of property, greed, honour and land aren't just applicable to mankind.

I know that, I just mentioned humans specifically since it fit more to the conversation.

Those things in general have been around far longer than us human animals.

Dinosaurs come to mind.

Greed is the motivating force behind most conflicts, be their inter-personal or international.

It's greed only when the person in question is attached to the materialistic things he/she desires.

I don't consider striving to be richer, have better things, etc to be greed as long as the person isn't attached to these things.

There are a lot of people in this world who are free from attachment.

If we can bomb foreign lands, why can't we feed them?

If you feed a country today, tomorrow, there are more mouths to feed. If you use bombs, it works the other way around. Feeding hungry resolves hunger in short term. Bombs resolve it in long term.

Very nice, I've been there many times.

It's quiet (depending where you are), it's beautiful, there's a lot to do also, ride ATVs/Dirtbikes, go camping, explore the wilderness, explore caves/caverns.

Good food up there too.

Bring a camera!

One of my favourite things to do up there is to just watch clouds smash into mountains.

So rad.

Question- are the five stars in this post karma stars? If so, why didn't they vanish when we switched to medals?

They're not. As far as I know, if a member was banned and then unbanned they'd still have those "extra" stars under their flag. Sure, this happened years ago. Oh, and those are busted stars. tounge.gif

It's from the old warning system that we used to have here. Basically, if you broke one of the rules and depending on the severity of the infraction, you were issued stars. After your fifth one, your posting rights were revoked. You could have stars removed after time; you had to make a case in the Network section of the forum explaining why you thought you deserved to have them removed.

Ah, nostalgia.

I'd joined when that dreaded Warn Log was the main thing you worried about, and in my case, it led up to the ban being invoked. So just so you guys know the same, that Warning log under your name is held onto full term, as long as you're here and taken into account with regard to your stay, don't go looking to set any records with it!

As for a question, Why does war and drug use persist when we know what it leads to? Smoking as well? Seems there's enough evidence to suggest a better way to live your life and people can't force themselves to stop and consider that

Just recently, the decision to add some gruesome photos to cigarette packs came up, to warn of the actual symptoms one develops, in more extreme cases.

However, The pining for Peace and the folly of war poses the greater question, if Police or soldiers are without a need, it presents another obstacle, the need for jobs outside of the profession of Peace Keeping?

There's a joke about that, of course, [What would the police do without crime?] but being the nature of man, corruption and evil, there's always a need to safe guard

The thing that people, and the media nearly 100% of the time, forget is that drugs are fun. That's why people take them: they make you feel good right now, f*ck the long term effects.

It's just human nature. Greed is a major reason for war. People like money, and they don't care where they get it. As for drugs, it's an in the moment thing. They live for the high, and don't worry about anything past that, only getting high again. I do agree about there not being jobs if there weren't fighting, but I'd like to think people would rather be unemployed than dead.

Might be way off the mark here, but might have something to do with spambot prevention etc?

We need a person like Ghandi. You hear much reverence for Nelson Mandela for one example. In the older days, Mother Theresa doing work for good in the World...even the Pope, who is not without his critics, but besides sharing commonality with Religious beliefs, Peace and the idea to be free and equality, and having everyone feel good enough about their life, in a way, I feel what everyone should strive for, and in a religious sense I dare to mention Sin as a source for the way people act and evils present themselves.

But in the context of Christianity being Unconditional Love, and God representing Love as a whole (how I interpret it) Why do people object strongly to that idea?

It's for the servers, to many people searching many times slow down the forum.

People seem to forget that Mandela strongly advocated violence to overthrow the Apartheid regime. Remember, he was imprisoned for his role in planning and preparing to use explosives to attack civilian infrastructure.

Obligatory Question: When there's going to be New Year's Eve, which country passes first in the next year?

Parts of Kiribati, because they fall under the UTC+14 time zone, which is just west of the International Date Line (Longitude 180). Basically, whoever is in UTC+14 celebrates the New Year first.
