I think (not sure about all areas) that you can drive in the U.S. on a UK license, but only temporarily, I know some areas it's 30 days.

So if you plan on staying longer, you'll need to apply for a license for whatever state you are in.

Actually, this link should give you the info you need. smile.gif

Basically, it depends where you're going, and there are things which you need to do before going to the U.S.

I AM SO SICK OF PEOPLE SAYING STUFF BEHIND MY BACK

Why do people do it? Because whoever they are talking about doesn't happen to be in the room at the time. Going "behind someone's back" is an absurdly childish idea anyway. When will people realise that everyone talks about everyone else behind their backs?

Suck it up and stop being pathetic.

They're probably doing that because you explode for no reason every time something is said about you to your face?

In British English, is "banged up" an expression to be in jail or behind bars?

Yeah, to be banged up is to be imprisoned.

Gotta love the differences in English across the ocean. In Canadian English, "banged up" is generally what someone will say about your car after it has been in an accident; e.g. "Hey, it looks like your car got banged up pretty good." Sometimes it'll be said to someone who got injured in a fight; e.g. "Looks like they banged you up pretty good."

So... what's everyone doing on this fine Friday? </obligatory question>

people like Sam need to get a life

Says the guy who uploads photos of him holding a knife to make us think he is badass...

To somehow stay on topic: Is the sentence above grammatically correct? It sounds a bit weird.

Does that sound any better?

My favourite film score is Event Horizon. Fantastic, featuring Michael Karmen and Orbital.

Brian Ladd's "Unsubmitted Themes for Hellraiser" is also brilliant, but doesn't really count as a soundtrack as it was never submitted.

Being completely serious here - Attack the Block. The grimey, urban soundtrack is an orchestral laced dubstep masterpiece. It sounds a lot like classic Cronenburg scores - it builds tension fantastically for what is essentially quite a low budget British sci fi comedy. It's great especially if you enjoy that kind of ambient urban sound.

The Dark Knight is an amazing soundtrack. The way in which The Joker's theme is spliced into more conventional music shows the central theme of chaos seeping into our comfortable lives. And Watch The World Burn is a dark, moody piece which grows in menace throughout, leaving a deep impression on myself.

I also highly recommend the Akira soundtrack. Blending techo beats with Buddhist chanting and bells, it creates a sound unlike anything else in cinema. The city of Neo-Tokyo itself is giving an amazing theme in Winds Over Neo-Tokyo which captures the desolation and perversion of the landscape of the movie. Tetsuo is also a brilliant track, slowly warping from an innocent childrens beat to a grandiose chant which mirrors the antagonists descent into megalomaniacal insanity.

The final track however, Requiem, is a standout, a true masterpiece in the purest sense of the world. Flittering effortlessly between apocalyptic doom and the simply tragedy of a broken childhood friendship, it bids a mournful farewell to the anatgonist of the movie and takes things full circle, revealing the monster of the piece as a terrified child looking for peace.

You could do a lot worse than these two soundtracks, my friend.

Thanks guys Ill give them a listen. I wondering should I watch Event horizon and listen to the score that way. I've just had a quick look it and it looks interesting. Is the movie any good? If you have seen it which I assume you have?

I've seen attack the block and the dark knight at the cinemas and I liked the score from the dark knight much more than attack the block. Im not really into the urban style of attack the block's soundtrack I guess it would be good for people who like that sort of stuff.

Just had a listen to requiem from Akira that's fantastic. Might see the movie just because of it.

Good to see this back on topic, and not just chit chat, I'll suggest one film score, Once upon a time in the West, some great pieces of music from that classic western movie.

Next question: Why is there a lot of hate for Jewish people? I ask because I have never met or spoke to anyone Jewish before, I've seen plenty of Jewish characters on tv shows, and they seem perfectly normal and kind, yet there are always jokes about how Jewish people only care about money? Is this just a stereotype? Where does this originate? Does it stem from religous roots? Any feedback appreciated.

PS. Also thanks to MURDOC, nice of you to provide that useful link

The writers of the gospels bore quite a lot of ill will towards the Jewish teachers. The Pharisees and the Saducees are portrayed as the biggest villains in the story of Jesus. One of the Apostles even added in a part where one of the Jewish elders said 'Let his blood be on our hands and the hands of our children!' When Jesus was presented in front of the mob by Pilate.

With the Christianisation of the Western world, this kind of Anti-Semitism was given free reign. The idea that the Jews killed Jesus has been a driving force behind pogroms, inquisistions and all other manner of atrocities. It doesn't matter that Jesus was a Jewish nationalist, that he's referred to as a Rabbi in the Bible or that Christianity is still technically an offshoot from Judaism. The Jews killed Christ, and that idea has never been fully let go of.

There's also slight elements of class hatred and the simple dislike of peculiar outsiders.

I can't vouch for the rest of the soundtrack, but one iconic movie music piece is definitely In the House in a Heartbeat from 28 Days Later. It's a great piece of music with a steadily rising tension and sense of dread, perfect for situations far more diverse than just your standard horror/action flick. though, with that in mind it does get used in a lot of places, it was on The Apprentice just this last week (if I remember correctly alongside Dream Collapsing from Inception and something from The Dark Knight). The Beeb really do love film soundtracks.

He was answering my question I assume. Why do you ask so stupid questions, questions like that cannot be answered. There will be to many different answers, maybe if you asked if you do why do you believe in ghosts. Are you just asking questions for the sake of it or do you actually want to know the answer?

Life is a form of Energy.

Energy can neither be created nor destroyed.

When the host dies the Energy is free to seek a new host.

Until the Energy finds and settles into a new host it Might cause a disturbance in the ether

Persons that are unable to accept the natural universe create Religions to explain away what troubles them.

Some people believe because of things they've actually seen that fit the description of what you would call a "ghost".

Also, you're correct, that wasn't a question, it was an answer.

Pay attention.

Why are some chocolates in boxes wrapped in foil whereas others aren't?

I'm guessing it depends on the quality of the chocolate, which effects its likelihood of changing states. Perhaps richer, purer chocolate is more likely to melt and therefore needs a wrapper to help it maintain form, whereas others are manufactured with particular ingredients to give it a definitive shape and bond.

Thanks. I only ask because my brother won a box as a prize and I noticed that some are always wrapped, whereas some aren't. I had a look at the kinds of filling and the kind of chocolate, but saw no link between the two. I just thought it was aesthetics at first, though I figured there had to be a reason.
