If you have any form of criminal record in England, what sort of major jobs might it prevent you from?

From a site which specialises in CRB checks:

"[...]if you are looking for a position as a paid employee or as a volunteer and your work duties will bring you into contact with vulnerable members of society or imply a high level responsibility."

Therefore some jobs which you may not be able to get would be jobs involving working with children or vulnerable people, such as a scout leader, teacher or carer. You also need generally need to be "clean" to adopt a child.

Also:

"Your record may automatically disqualify you for some positions, especially government jobs requiring security clearances, military jobs, positions with fiduciary responsibility (e.g., insurance or banking)[...]"

However if the offense is minor and was committed years ago and you have reformed since, then it may be possible that you can still get a job. Although it almost certainly won't be in any of those sectors if the offense was drug related.

Could a console game continually change via updates through online? For example, could they send an update for GTA where it makes a street get closed off for road works or some sh*t like that, then change again the next week, or is the code and sh*t not changeable once the game is on disc?

I'd like to know this too.

It'd be cool if they changed the radio station content every week or so to keep it more real.

I've always had this idea in mind too, that'd be cool and completely possible. Recode a file, compile it, send it through the internet, update the game and voila. Same for missions, for example an important IRL happening and they could remake the mission.

Weekly updates to download, but still sounds awesome to have a living GTA.

Don't know if you said that in the negative sense or what, but I'd happily do a weekly update to get different content within a game. I got this idea when playing GTA3, and saw the road with the road works on in St. Marks, and thought it would be cool to be able to get an update where the road was fixed along with the building that sits adjacent to it. It was a minor detail, but something I thought would have been cool to see.

As mentioned, we could have weekly updates for GTA where radio stations are updated/changed, thus opening more options up for weekly shows, obviously repeating themselves every month as you'd get bored making a new show every week...or not?

FPS games could get new guns, or some changes in maps, thus always creating a new challenge. You get used to a camping spot, but then the update takes that spot away, thus making you have to find somewhere new. It could get rather annoying in that sense, but you know what am getting at.

I just see all these patches that fix games, so why not be able to change the game slightly?

Because that's called DLC and they want your money for that. Besides it's not free for Sony or MS to send stuff your way.

Valve do it via Steam on an almost daily basis, saying that it costs them money to do that is utterly asinine, the data they send out doesn't cost them jack sh*t, all it would do is cut into earnings (which, from my point of view, doesn't equate to an actual cost), and on that note, it also has a tendency to draw in more customers, when they realize the service they use is treating them like an actual human being rather than cows waiting to be milked. M$ don't do it because they have a strict policy on DLC having to cost money if it's more than just a fix or update, Sony might be able to do something of a similar nature since they've taken the high road (for the first time in recent history) and combined forces with Steam.
