xTRLx
Hey people, I always liked the gang respect meter from GTA 2, where the more you worked with that gang, the more they respected you, and vice versa. You wouldn't have to nescessarily work for the gangs in neXt, but if you kept out of trouble, then they would leave you alone/like you if you killed enemy gangsters. I had a little idea for the levels of how much they like you. 1=Hate - 5=Like 1 - That specific gang would absoloutely despise you. They would constantly send hits out for you, using bulletproof cars with blackened out windows. Having high ranking gang members, almost assassins in groups searching for you, with shotguns, machine guns, body armour etc. 2 - The gang hate you, they would occasionally send out hits for you, lower ranking thugs would be on the look out for you with bats, pistols and SMG's. They would sometimes drive-by you like on Vice City Stories. 3 - The gang are neutral with you (leaning on the dislike side), they would tell you to "get the hell 'outta our turf" etc. If you stay in their area, they would start fights with you, possibly involving knives, bats etc. Unless the police are around, they will also use fire-arms occasionally. As long as you don't go near them, they will generally leave you alone. 4 - The gang like you. Although they won't hang around with you, they will always greet you and sometimes compliment you when you walk past. Certain members will trade/buy weapons from you, and vice versa. If you get in a fight with someone close to the member(s), they will run to your aid and help you in the fight. As long as no police are around. 5 - The gang really respect you, you can hire certain members to follow you around/to be used as bodyguards. You can give them items, they can trade/buy items from you etc. You can command the members to take cover, stick close, stay back, wait here etc. If you get in a fight with someone, random street thugs from that gang will always be willing to help, even if police are close. Akavari
i always liked this idea too. Like, you do a mission and assassinate an important gang figure, then you'll be standing in the street and a black car does a swift driveby at you with uzis and drives off xD

ScratchCard
The idea is fine, but not for every single gang in the game. It would ruin the story, as friends and enemies couldn't be scripted (imagine IV where the Russians hate you before you start working with them or the North HH hate you before you even meet PBX). Maybe gangs like M.O.B. and the Spanish Lords (not the exact same gangs, but streetgangs like those) could be split up into different sets or whatever it is they call them, then you could befriend/ally/hate them? That is, if the gangs don't have an important role in the story. Edited September 3, 2009 by ScratchCard
tjawzy
yes. there should be more than 5 "levels" though. maybe 10 so that it will take some time to make them really hate or love you
Akavari
i say no levels, just have more decision-making missions that can drastically affect your standing with certain organizations. then you would have to think harder about your choices rather than, "should i let this asshole live or blow his head off to spare me the annoyance of meeting him later?"
