The Notorious MOB
I had always had some ideas about what "The Ballad of Gay Tony" actually meant as I thought it couldn't just be a humorous and daring title created by Rockstar for the hell of it. So I will now attempt to explain it's meaning with the use of quotes from the trailer and some media such as newspaper Articles etc. I'll start off with the basic Idea behind this theory. In simple terms what the title means is that this episode will tell the story of the once great Gay Tony who has for years been the most loved person in Liberty city (by all the Right people) and now he stands to lose everything because of a few simple mistakes. The situation with Tony's drug problems gets worse and worse, and Tony gets more and more out of control I done a deal with the wrong Devil man Although this will tell the tale of Gay Tony, the main character will still be our Protagonist Luis Fernando Lopez. Who no matter what has always stuck by Tony through thick and thin. So when he here's of his plight he doesn't hesitate to help him out and support him all the way. I'm the only man in the history of this town to have the Hottest Gay and Straight Clubs at the same time and I'm about to lose Everything Gay Tony you will always be the king of this town.. You Are this town The reasoning behind Luis, the Tough guy from the hood helping out a Gay nightclub entreprenure goes deeper than just friendship and loyalty though. Luis sees Tony as a way to get to the top in Liberty City and Take over as King one day. Luis is "a man of action," torn between friends and family and this drive for wealth and power The only thing that's not clear is how the "Ballad" is going to ultimately end. But I guess we'll just have to wait until October 29th to find out. Edited September 2, 2009 by Money Over Bullshit

Glonker
Nice post! I wonder what these "simple mistakes" are?.... I guess one of his mistakes was getting into the whole drug thing. Can´t wait to find out how the "Ballad" ends!
SafetyCatch
Nice assumption. I think when Tony says "I made a deal with a bad devil," I think he's refering to either Bulgarin or Ancelotti. Yeah I think it's Bulgarin he's referring to. From what Niko says he is a man to be greatly feared.
MC.
Well said! I hope Tony Gay Prince doesn't get killed or doesn't betray you. I wonder if he'll be the equivalent to Roman Bellic as Luis Fernando Lopez is the equivalent of Niko Bellic because Luis Fernando Lopez will probably have to rescue and help Tony Gay Prince, a lot. I think he will be very much like Roman. The loss of Money and the trying to get it back is a common theme in both GTA IV and The Ballad of Gay Tony. I think the theme of Loss also extends to The Lost and Damned.. The only difference being that Johnny doesn't only lose money... But everything

CJPNE
Nice thread, I do hope that Tony isn't killed at the end, but knowing Gta, there's a good chance he will. I think Tony will become even more out of control after Evan Moss is killed by The Lost , that's one cut scene I'm personally looking forward to the most and one that i think will trigger all the outrageous missions Luis will undertake. Darth Andrew
As "ballad" implies something "sentimental or romantic" (dictionary.com), and with Luis being "torn between friends and family and this drive for wealth and power," perhaps there will be two endings for TBoGT (like in IV)? Perhaps in one, you stick by/defend Gay Tony (maybe even to the death?), and the other, you either kill him or simply use him to further your thirst for "wealth and power." Insom
Gay Tony is the star of the show. You are watching this show through Luis's eyes.

I don't think Tony will be a snake like Dimitri. He has too much to lose if he did betray Luis.
dabaannz
GTA IV was created as a character piece and, unlike previous versions of the game in which the protagonist was the story, this time the city itself is the character, and the protagonists carry a story which exposes it's personality and characteristics. The protagonists also represent a "product of their environment" theme, which slowly reveals the "main character" and how it has affected and influenced those around or within it. I think it's extremely ironic that the line "You are this town" is used in reference to Gay Tony... this chapter will no doubt unveil the most embarrassing traits of a character... survival, and make for an exciting climax. "Ballad" or not, this will play out like an opera. EDIT: oops, thanks shinsta Edited September 2, 2009 by dabaannz

I'm thinking either you side with the guys from Northwood and rob Tony of everything he's got, or you side with Tony and take them all out. GTA_dog
So you figured out the title meaning "...of Gay Tony"? Well I could've told you that Gay Tony was in this DLC. You couldn't find of what "The Ballad..." was though.

Just another way of saying "The Story of Gay Tony" or "The Rise and Fall of Gay Tony" kinda like the "Ballad of Ricky Bobby" except it's about Liberty City Nightlife and Criminality and not Motor Racing.
