Roman's Car service crash

So I currently own the steam version of GTA IV (big mistake i know). I can get everything running well (for the most part) and it seems to rarely crash on me save for one exception. Here's the breakdown of what happens:

 

- I call Roman for a cab, he tells me one is on the way.

 

- Cab arrives, honks

 

- I get in the cab

 

- nothing happens, doesnt switch to inside the car view, still outside the car

- no keys work

- if i pause then the game locks up and i have to reboot

 

Its a small problem compared to most but, the car service worked before, and i've managed to fix all my others and now this has happened.

 

also before i installed gta iv i had a fresh xp sp3 install, defragged and the whole 9 yards.

 

any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.

Turns out it was a steam problem not the game
