What FrameRate should I expect?

I'm getting an XFX nvidia geforce 9600 gso far cry edition 1.5gb, I have 2.GB ram, and AMD Athlon 64 x 2, what frame rate would I expect?

Kinda low actually. That is if that processor is a low end one and becomes the bottleneck, GPU will be fine for mid to high settings, but will not be stellar. You will be better off getting an ATi card 3850 or 4850 or higher. I am an Nvidia and Intel fan, but I know that right now there is NO REASON to overspend on dx hardware at all. Ati current mainstream offering is Cheaper, and better, than Nvidias unless you overspend on new cards. If you must get an Nvidia card right now before the new ones come out, get a 9800. It makes a big difference. An 8800 will eat that 9600 for breakfast. The second number, not the first one.

I'm happy to play it on low/mid settings. As long as the frame rate is at least 20-25. Compared to my current 9 fps.

Also, does more ram make the game run faster?

Whats more specs on that CPU? Front side bus, rated Ghz, and some info on your ram (mobo model if you can give that would be good too, but it may not be available to you I understand)

Also, I don't think this game is very good at a low FPS (under 30 steady) because it really really effects travel in cars.

I dunno, AMD Athlon 64 X 2, Athlon 7750 dual core. I don't really know what I'm talking about. The card is 1.5 gb as opposed to the original 512MB though...

Like 2.70ghz

Also, look at this guys IV, its practically the same specs as mine

runs smooth

I'm happy to play at like 20 fps, hell, he even has fraps running and its smooth. =)

Check out reviews on this card. I have an ATi card right now, and almost got a 1gb version until I found out that it is only a marketing gimmick in this case and it is bad ram - I can not speak for this card, however Crysis Edition does make it sound like it is quality - however, why the hell did they put it on a 9600 chip? That is my cue to research the product some more in my opinion.

Moving on, here is a video with a better card, but the same processor:

Looks good to me.

And, my specs are as follows:

hd3850 512mb

C2D 1.86ghz e6320 1066

2gb ram

I get 30 FPS, rare stutter when loading new zones at night and high draw distances, I run with 100% vehicle density and many high settings.

Overclocking to 2.8ghz gave me 40 fps and no more rare stutter, not worth it to me to risk (im air cooled and not very high end fans) though it should give you a better idea about what to expect.

I've already bought the 9600 so I can't go back. My 8200 runs this game at like 9 fps, will I see a bit of a difference at least?

You will notice a complete rejuvenation of your entire system for sure. You're going to be pleased coming from an 8200. It's going to feel like you have a supercomputer. I'm not even kidding. biggrin.gif

No problem! I am here to help biggrin.gif This will make you even happier - look what I dug up. You're going to have 25-40 fps easy (apply this video to the one that shows your processor with a dif card) biggrin.gif

Here we see that a 384mb version handles it well with a random CPU (not as fast as yours in GHZ - but I dont know AMD cpu's to know the rest), and we see that your processor, earlier, eats it up fine too. So we know by these videos, you're all set when you've got your card in there biggrin.gif

Thanks man, Im adding you as a friend for sure. One last thing though, what was the reason my pc played gta iv so slow on the 8200? It was an integrated card. Also, I only have 1.75gb ram, but thats basically 2 anyways so.

Thanks for your troubles man. tounge.gif

you said the reason.. it's integrated.. those cards are not even designed for gaming.

No trouble at all biggrin.gif

Basically, an integrated chip is going to eat up more of your processing time and memory because it needs to use those to coordinate a lot more than an expansion card does.

I THINK southbridge chipsets are made to help with that, but I'm really not sure. Same goes for sound cards, network adapters, USB - all of that built in stuff is actually bad for performance (but for the most part the only one that even matters these days is the graphics card, sound card can help, but you'll be fine with integrated audio or whatever you already have for a sound card, it's nowhere near as intense for your performance as an integrated video card is)

With mid settings and at 1280x1024 i get 15-35 FPS and various lags.

My PC:

Motherboard: ASUSTeK M2A-VM

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT with 512 MB Ram

RAM: 2 GB

OS: Windows 7 RTM x64

Any my PC is quite old and lame. whatsthat.gif

That's good then smile.gif

to slayermaggot, we pretty much have the same specs, I think my Athlon is slightly higher than yours, plus my card is 1.5 gb, so I should be alright.
