Pico
No way it'd make it down a track, at least not under 30 seconds. As I said, can't go over 2K really or it breaks loose and no power goes to the axle. And driving it an hour out there and back on the busted trans wouldn't be too smart. I also don't want the trans acting weird to tear up my rear end. Like if it broke loose at 2K, shot up to 5.5K then somehow engaged... I'm sure that wouldn't be too good for the rear end. I'm sure I could get at least 2 months out of it as it is, but I can't have any fun in it. And winter is coming very damn soon... so I want to get some time in to mash on the pedal and spin on some drive pavement, and actually feel it pull up through the whole rpm range. The only time it'll see past 2K in the winter is when I'm kicking up snow at the asshole behind me
Lurch
Fair enough, but I wouldn't ever really worry about damaging an 8.5" 10 bolt rear end on a stock Camaro. At least not in that kind of driving. And if you did somehow break it, it's not like it's not the most common rear end ever used in pretty much everything GM made with a V8 in the past 40+ years. But I see your point about wanting to enjoy the power of your car. Edited September 24, 2009 by Lurch
Pico
Sure you mean Trans Am not Camaro. Basically the same the thing though And if my rear end goes out I'll try and grab the rear out of a V6. I hear they're built just as strong but have a more desirable gearing for more power. Lurch
I thought the V6's used the smaller 7.5" 10 bolt? Your T/A should have a 8.5" with 3.23 gears and LSD. What I would do is look for a 3.42 or 3.73 ring and pinion out of a half ton truck and put your LSD carrier into it and put it all into your narrower f body housing (any truck or B body rear ends are going to be much wider than one in an F body). That should give you a bit more snap off the line. nvm that. Yours would have a 7.5". Guessing it has 3.04 gears or 3.23 and has an LSD. So I guess a R&P swap from a V6 would be a good idea. Still doesn't seem adequate to me. Needs a 9"! Edited September 24, 2009 by Lurch
Pico
Yeah, it has a 7.5", didn't notice you said 8.5. I think the stock is 3.42 or around there. The V6 is a little higher. And for stock I'm sure the 7.5" will do fine... remember, it's just a stock LT1 If I start adding performance parts, which I doubt, then I'll worry about the drivetrain. Ordered the TC today, and I'm sure you'll be disappointed to hear I just went with a stock stall. I don't want to stress the trans any more than I need to. And I'm sure it's performance will be good enough for me. Sure it would have cut some time off drag runs, but the stock 1425 should be fine, imo. Pico
$125 from Advance Auto Parts. I may have been able to get a higher stall one from a trans shop for the same or slightly cheaper, I know.
Pico
f*ck YEAH! It's fixed. Took 10 hours (5 hours the past two days) but they got the new one in. HOLY f*ckING sh*t. That sums up how awesome this car is... 275hp kicks you in the ass, that's for sure. Most powerful thing I've ever had, that's for sure. I did a nice little 180 then my friend hopped in "to show me how to do it" and flew around a curve and almost smashed into a tree... then almost into a mail box... but we made it out ok Got my adrenaline rushing, that's for sure. On the way home after hanging out I punched it down my street and it about scared the sh*t out of me when I hit 60mph. That damn engine seems like it'll never get tired... I'm sure it will but damn it just keeps pulling and pulling... I'm a little worried because it doesn't shift at WOT until it just hits 6K, and I'm pretty sure it'd supposed to be 5.5K or 5.7K at most... I'll try and not hit that amount so much. But I really can't say in words how f*cking nice it is... I don't know how I could drive anything slower anymore... I thought the Camaro was decent, but it was a god damn tortuous compare to this. MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Lurch
That's cool. That's for sure. Just needs 'vroom-vroom, go-fast, pimp-daddy' exhaust and air intake now. Make it roar. Oh wait, we've still yet to see any pics. Edited September 30, 2009 by Lurch

Pico
Lol, yeah I'll pass on the pipes through the hood That might get me some law enforcement attention! The exhaust on it right now sounds pretty damn good. I think it might have a Flowmaster exhaust on it, actually. But my friend told me there's a leak on the right pipe. And it rattles a bit in the back Pretty damn annoying. It's on the list of to-dos though. And so are pics. I plan on giving it a nice scrub down Friday morning. And later that day I'm going to Byron Dragway in Illinois for the whole weekend, it's the wheelie competition! I plan on bringing my camera. So if I get a chance I'll take some shots of my car. Although it's supposed to rain which might f*ck things up. Saturday is qualifying... not sure how they'll have the competition Sunday if qualifying is rained out... either way I'm sure I'll be able to post some bad ass wheelie shots, at the least! Oh, and I figured out what paint I have. It's called Mystic Teal Metallic. It changes from a deep green to a royal blue with small hints of purple depending on the lighting. It's pretty damn nice. I'm not a fan of green cars but I think the way it shifts colors makes it really pop. edit: Here's a short clip. As I explain in the description of the video "I was trying to get an idea of the 0-60mph in my new Trans Am. Here I did some throttle modulation to keep it from just smoking the tires. If I had better tread/warmer tires and was WOT the entire time I'm sure it would have cut it a bit. Right here it's 6-7 sec to 60mph." Also, there was a bit of traffic on the road I did it at. Didn't want to scare too many people flying at them at double the speed limit. Don't worry though, it was a backroad where trucks usually go, not a road with houses. Pico
Why's that? Anyways, the weekend at the drag strip was f*cking awesome. I didn't get a chance to run my car though. Bad thing is, around half way back the trans started acting up. Too much to describe, but I'll just say 1st gear might be f*cked some how. My friend who put it in will take a look at it later today after we all get some more sleep Had to get up early to head home. Watch this spot, I might post pics of my car if I get a chance. Pico
Definitely needs to go, I agree. But I'm afraid to get it off and see what's underneath. As for the trans problem I just mentioned, I may have been jumping the gun. I think it was just my exhaust going to sh*t. On the way home from my friends the god damn muffler fell off! The car sounds great with it off actually, and its nice and loud... wish I could keep it off. But it'll get me in too much trouble. It'll be off until I can work up the funds for one though. With the car, trans, and cost of the wheelie comp this weekend, plus upcoming bills I'm broke! Hope the damn muffler was causing my problems and that the trans is fine. Lurch
I'd rather look at slightly faded paint then that giant leather condom that's on it now. And I'd just run it without a muffler til you have a few hundred bucks to get a whole new nice exhaust system made (decat, x pipe, and some nice mufflers) to put on it. Although I know you're cheap as f*ck and will probably just slap the same sh*tty OEM muffler back on the same sh*tty exhaust as that is the true nature of the Picolini. Edited October 6, 2009 by Lurch
Pico
Lol, I'm DEFINITELY not putting some sh*tty muffler on. That's for sure. If I can pull off no muffler for a while that'd be great. Problem is, there's two big friggin spots for the exhaust tips in the rear bumper and it's just empty. The second a cop pulls behind me (which can happen several times a day here in normal traffic) and hears the car and sees the empty spots I'll probably be pulled over. I'll be able to get away with a warning the first time is my guess, but the second one I'll probably get a ticket I wouldn't say I'm cheap, necessarily. It's more just a matter of not having the cash. I'll get a decent muffler on this, but the less I need to replace the better.
stretch.
Fit a straight through then. In fact some are so ridiculous that you could park a muscle car in them.

In fact some are so ridiculous that you could park a muscle car in them. Tell me about it, to be honest you dont see many chavved up cars in Liverpool cause most teenage lads around here have some form of brains and realise how sh*te and annoying they sound, however in the surrounding areas they do infact love these fart cannons and i cannot stand them. I saw a BMW 328 the other day with one and it sounded f*cking terrible.

AZAZEL
It's funny you should post that picture. We had a white Impreza just like that one at the shop today, although an STi, with the golden rims and all, and an abnormally huge muffler. It sounded rather beefy, but it looked like crap. EDIT: Lurch and I are on the same page when it comes to that horrible bra, and the fact that you took the time to cut it out neatly, and add a drop shadow, without 'shopping the bra, too, puzzles me. You like it, don't you? Edited October 6, 2009 by Azazel
Pico
Lol, no I don't. But I was about to leave to a friends house, editing the bra out would have been a bitch and took for ever. And honestly, I didn't even think about it.
Lurch
I honestly doubt a cop is going to be pull you over and write you a ticket for not having a muffler unless you're acting like a dumbass hotrodding it around him. I've driven/ridden in plenty and have never been pulled over for it. Although maybe it's just more lax down here in TN. Pico
Took the bra off, it looks alright from what I can tell. It's really dirty though, need to scrub it down. There might be a slight color difference. The chipped areas aren't that bad, so it'd definitely staying off. I'll probably clean it tomorrow before work, but most likely won't have pics. Need to wash the whole car again anyways, while out camping at the drag strip it was down wind of a campfire. And due to the rain, the car was wet and soaked up tons of ashes. It looks like crap right now...
