usernotfound
So how would you all feel about a Grand Theft Auto movie. Maybe featuring Claude Speed or Tommy, CJ, Niko, whatever. I mean check out GTA2: The Movie, it was awesome but too short. Think Scarface, but longer, more maffia, more gunfights, more carjacking, robberies, and all the things we did in GTA. I for one would freaking love it. Real action ofcourse, no computer generated sh*t. How would you all feel about this? Do or don't?
MyDog
Making a GTA 3 and GTA Vice City movie could be good. GTA San Andreas movie would suck-with all those unrealism and jetpacks. But to make a GTA movie, they must keep the fictional city names. It just wouldn't be GTA with New York City instead of Liberty City and Miami instead of Vice City. Vice_City69
Hmmm... This actually is not a bad idea. But the movie would have to remain extremley faithful to the characters, city names, monuments, events and timelines. The Storyline should be changed though, I would'nt want to play a game and they watch everything all over again I would say the movie should be in Liberty City, following GTA III with Claude Speed in the early 2000's. As much as I'd like it (I would love it) I don't think a Vice City movie can be made, or in the 80's at least. They could try a 2000's Vice City movie, but sadly I think it would be an epic fail Peace

cornedbeefsandwich
sounds ok, but i think that niko or claudes stories would be best. if it were to be done with niko, they should wait until a few more GTA games come out. because it would get boring if you just played the game, then a movie depicting the same thing came out, it would get boring. Girish
This has been discussed quite a few times before. Frankly speaking, I'm not too sure about how a GTA movie would fare. Movies of other games in the past have failed to make a mark. Hitman and Silent Hill were ok whereas Max Payne was a disaster. This is majorly because it becomes difficult to incorporate an entire game into a 2 hour movie and the expectations are always high. So many things can go wrong; the story, the casting, the action, etc. Besides, the world of GTA is extremely vast and to fit everything in a movie would be impossible. Even if they do manage it somehow, I don't think you would be leaving the theatre with a satisfactory feeling. In short, I don't see a GTA movie working and GTA should be kept just as what it is - a game.

If you watch GTA2 The Movie, that was like 8 minutes, and they managed to get the GTA principles pretty fast. They don't have to include everything, but a movie about Claude doing stuff in Liberty City would be pretty awesome. There's just no good movie out there to go with GTA, Scarface comes closest. I want to see a GTA movie.
Girish
but a movie about Claude doing stuff in Liberty City would be pretty awesome. Just doing stuff? That would get monotonous and boring pretty fast. Playing it and watching it are two different things. Just because you enjoyed playing it does not imply that you will enjoy watching it. Now, in order to make it enjoyable, you need to put in a story there. Having a good story means getting to know the characters, portraying their emotions and such. Put this all this together in a movie and you hardly have any time left to pull off those 'awesome stuff' that you do in the game. At the most, you'll be watching 5-6 missions being completed (just like in the game) and then the focus shifts towards the ending. That's all. As you can see, it will be extremely difficult to pull off a GTA movie, let alone make it successful. I don't think R* will be willing to take the chance. They are very good at making games, not movies.
Ray Carter
Rockstar already said that a GTA Movie wouldn't be a good idea, because they can't cram a whole storyline into just two hours. However, A TV Series might be a possibility. It might look something like The Wire. Some storyline from the views of Corrupt LCPD Cops, Mafia Families, Street Gangs, Reporters, Politians... usernotfound
Maybe then they could make more movies or something... Like the first one ends with a cliffhanger and the second one finishes it up
CryptReaperDorian
Well, I always thought there should of been a movie of Niko's life 10 years before he arrived at Liberty City. A war movie may work where Niko's army unit is betrayed, Bulgarin's yacht sinks, and Niko gets e-mailed by Roman to come to LC and Niko then boards the ship. It would be cool if we can be introduced to a younger Niko and Roman along with Milicia Bellic and Niko's dead brother.

Sanjeem
This has been disscused before, But it could work. For San Andreas, I think i would suck, It just coudn't happen IMO, For Vice City it could happen, you just have to cut-down on the so called mission after mission and make it movie style. It woudn't be too hard.

The Horror Is Alive
Max Payne was only a disaster because the script and screenplay sucked. I could have done a better job than that fat-ass John Moore dick.

Mokrie Dela
i was actually talking to my mate about this yesterday - mentioning most movie to games/ games to movies are crap. Max payne, Hitman, were all not as good as could be imho, but GTA? if a film was made i think the producers would kill it. If done right it'd rock, but GTAs all about running round doing wtf u want, so how would you put that into a film? I think there is actually a film called Grand Theft Auto, - ive seen a DVD with that title with Ron Howard - so if ever made it might not be able to be called Grand Theft Auto.... likely GTA. If its got a good writer - like GTA's writers, then yea i'd like to see it, but not sure if it'll ever happen. The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. D- Ice
It'll end up worse than a Chuck Norris movie! But I have always had a dream of a somewhat altered version of GTA 3. But it will probably end up being a couple of movies/two-part movie at least - kinda like those Che movies - or even maybe a trilogy with the downfall of Claude at Shoreside Vale. It will definately be set in the present - with weapons slightly changed. The M16 with the scope could be an M16A4/ACOG & Laser. I will also expand on the story of the Cartel, and the briefly mentioned relationship with the CIA, as well as Yakuza rituals. Setting would be changed to make LC much gloomier. Look at this pre-Beta screenshot, and the blood-red sky: Now add Darkel and murderous cannibal satanic Curtly, who eats kids (yeah the controversy), badly abused prostitutes, secret slavery of immigrants by Triads, maybe a government super-soldier development plan (yeah we all love 'em), corrupt government and secretive undemocratic leadership of the city, designer drugs and the Cartel being given military secrets in exchange for doing the government's dirty work - and you have my true dystopian LC. I really like the feel of films like Sin City, and especially their seediness. Maybe we can mix that type of setting with GTA's. Oh - and Catalina will be played by an extremely hot actress - maybe we can get a boob shot with that. I am fed up with most films where good-looking people=good people. Maybe Claude can be made a whole lot more menacing and uglier with scars etc... Edited September 3, 2009 by D- Ice
Vice46
GTA Movie?i heard rumor about this like Eminem will be protagonist in the movie but Dan Houser say it's impossible to make GTA as 2 hour movie and he want to keep GTA as game
Nito
GTA the movie just couldn't compete with GTA the game. If they did do it, it better have a stellar plot. Edited September 5, 2009 by Nito
MyDog
Maybe there is a chance to make GTA movie, but in three parts. Each part-2 hours 30 minutes. Maybe that could work.

And what if the first part doesn't work? No producer will take such a huge risk, especially when it has got to do with a movie based on a video game. It won't be feasible to leave any loose ends just in case the movie happens to flop. A more safer bet would be to finish one movie, see how it fares at the box office and then think of a sequel or a totally different new movie. Osric
I don't think any of the III canon games could work as a movie, but IV is realistic and story-driven enough to work. Here's my cast for a IV movie. Now, not everyone looks exactly like their role, but they can capture the personality of that role. I mean, the actress I chose for Mallorie is a different ethnicity than the character(Asian instead of Hispanic), but she can capture Mallorie's kind and optimistic personality, and Mallorie's minor enough for a change like that, but major enough to include in the movie. So here we go..... Director-Martin Scorsese(I know he won't do it) or Quentin Tarantino(More Likely), as long as we don't get Paul Anderson, Uwe Boll, or John Moore, we're fine. Cast Niko Bellic-Jason Statham Roman Bellic-Sacha Baron Cohen Mallorie-Christine Nguyen Vlad Glebov-Vincent Pastore Little Jacob-Will Smith Mikhail Faustin-Sonny Puzikas Dimitri Rascalov-Edward Norton Rodislav Bulgarin-Christopher Walken Manny-Carlos Mencia(They're both idiots) Elizabeta Torres-Queen Latifah Playboy X-Anthony Anderson Dwayne-Ice Cube Francis McReary-Bryan Cranston Packie McReary-Leonardo DiCaprio Derrick McReary-Denis Leary Gerry McReary-Jack Nicholson Kate McReary-Kate Winslet Ray Boccino-Michael Imperioli Phil Bell-James Gandolfini Jimmy Pegorino-Paul Sorvino Jon Gravelli-Robert DeNiro United Liberty Paper Guy-Alec Baldwin Darko Brevic-Ted Levine
Tsar_Smirnoff
I think the dialogue, action sequences, and cutscenes in the GTA games make them much like an interactive movie anyway. Besides, when has a video game to movie adaptation ever been completely faithful to the original game. They pretty much sh*t all over Silent Hill's original premise and story.
